Lewis Erison it was really an arcade game with no story mode. They just added it consoles with acouple more unique characters.
Honestly, it's worth it just to have effing CHI CHI as a playable character. People forget she's the best female martial artist in the world in the DB world. If she didn't decide to focus on being a wife and mom, she'd have probably been fighting Raditz and Nappa alongside Goku.

@Char Aznable What......we're not talking about some indie project. We're talking about a Bandai owned Toei/Shuesha/Bid Studio licensed game from 2005. Bandai still owns the copyrights to making DBZ games with Toei/Shuesha/Bid Studio. You know? Because they are still churning out DBZ licensed games like Kakarot and Dragonball FighterZ and those two mobile games. And they had no problem remastering Budokai1 & 3 last gen for PS3/360.

ShortCake Kamikaze As a DBZ fanboy, I completely agree. This fanbase is overlooking one of the best fighting games on the market simply because theres not 100 million characters, no transformations and you cannot play the story of the series for the hundredth fucking time.
I honestly think because we have been spoon-fed meh DBZ games for a decade now, we have some kind of stockholm syndrome to prefer shitty games.

This game is something special that most fans didn't realize to see because they didn't understand it...
I know right! Manga Style Graphics/Animation, Real Fighting Combos, Adult Chi-Chi being a Playable Unique Character, Scouters reading Power Levels til' they break, and customizing n' nicknaming your favorite character. I love this game.
Goku XV Legend Playable Gohan with the Z-Sword, brand new Akira Toriyama design for Mecha Frieza, A game with the bansho fan, One of the first games to see Piccolo go giant in one of his Supers and with movement that was very fair because you couldn't just stay in the air all day n be annoying.
This game needed a squeal... FighterZ kinda reminds me of this game.. N dats another reason why I'm so happy for that game rn..
It reminds me Super DragonBall Z, ( traditional fighting game and graphics because how detailed it is) DragonBall Advanced Adventure (because of the air combos)
And burst Limit (Graphics)... That game needed a second too in my opinion...

This game is very underrated for having it's manga influence style gameplay, and definitely not bad looking graphics for it's time.

Actually that's not true, most DBZ games of the past decade were anime games first and fighting games second.
Super DBZ is one of the rare ones that's a fighting game first.

Chichi is awesome in this game, her moveset is so creative. Demon King Piccolo is also cool but I especially like Gohan with *TWO* FUCKING SWORDS. FighterZ is awesome but this game had way more charm starting from his roster in my opinion

I think having Demon King Piccolo and Cyborg Frieza was kind of unnecessary and redundant, but they did have neat movesets. Chi-Chi is probably the standout coolest thing about this game though, what a fun idea. I still think this is the only game where adult Chi-Chi has been playable.

Yo Max, you probably didn't know but this game was actually designed by the person who designed Street Fighter 2. Should've looked up some tournament footage beforehand to see just how legit this game is.

Funny how the people dissing this game are all of a sudden fans of FighterZ, this game got passed on back then because it wasnt an easy fighter like the Tenkaichi games at the time, this is literally the first real DBZ fighting game, the people who made Street Fighter 2 made this, Max really didnt do this game justice, look up a channel named "Whitefreeza" you might have to put super dbz next to it but there will be videos of this game being played on a high competitive level and its fucking fun to watch, I wish the FighterZ scrubs will give this game a chance because its a really good and deep fighting game thats not appreciated.

I remember when this came out I rented it from blockbuster, this was around the time either before or after I played budakai techkaichi, i didn't know that Super dragonball even existed but I rented it anyways to check it out and boi glad I did, this game right here was truly underrated. Had so much fun with this dbz classic, childhood memories

A lot of people are shitting on the DBZ games that aren't Tenkaichi 3 or Budokai 3. Though the only bad ones since the 90s were Taiketsu, Legacy of Goku 1, Ultimate Tenkaichi, and Kinect.

To be fair to Xeno 1, while I don't think it's a good game. It does what it's supposed to well enough. I'd say it decent at best and mediocre at worst. (I still come back to that game every now and then tbh)

BT3 wasn't even a really good that game only had alot of characters that no ever played at least the budokai series it was all in your face type game that I enjoyed imo
I played through Sagas a lot with friends when I was younger, so I am biased when I say the game can be really fun. Although repetitive as all hell. Battle of Z is kind of like a spiritual successor to it in that it's supposed to be played with friends, and that's where you'll find fun in playing it.

I loved playing this game. Even though i never knew how to do combos.
I love this game, it´s my favorite next to Budokai 3. I love the way you play in this. Almost all the rooster is diffrent with attacks and effects and I love the costumization. Favorite is to take Goku and teach him Majin Buu´s running attack. It´s so much fun. Vegeta, Frieeza and Cell are freaking annoying with those long range attacks but they are fun to play as. I think I enjoyed playing as Frieeza and Vegeta the most. And the stages are wonderful, love that Superman in the phonebooth. So funny, full of character in this.

The second most technical DBZ Game out there now that we have FighterZ!! Never noticed how good some of the music was until this video though.. was always hooked on the game play.
This one was freaking fun. I think I still own it. Now I'm inspired to play it. You can actually get knocked off stages like the lookout, but if I remember right it just transitions you to another stage.

Back when I had a PS2, I remember when this game came out and how excited people were with he cel-shaded graphics done up in the manga style. I never got this game because I was busy with Budokai 1, 2, 3, and also Budokai Tenkaichi 1, 2, 3, and then Infinite World.
But back then, I remember really wanting to play these anime based games with Japanese voices. Then those few games that did get a US release and had Japanese voices...the best!

Quick question: was cell nerfed? Because I remember seeing that you could use an assist after that bear-hug move he has and then dash to continue the combo. For some reason i can only combo after it with vegeta’s assist. I’m 100% sure i saw you do the assist with 16 and it worked. Again, was he nerfed?

After seeing Woolie do the Triple Dunk, i had to Max try it out
this game really feels like a Budokai version of the Tenkaichi games, its more 2d-like with 8 way movement yet you are in an arena with unique terrain.
and then it has usual fighting game-like attacks.

You haven't lived until you've seen high level Japanese play of this game on UA-cam. I can't really blame Max for not showing this game at its best as the controls are unorthodox as hell but its beautiful in the right hands. Up until Fighterz, this is the only DBZ game I can even take remotely seriously.
This game is arguably a better fighting game than Budokai 3.

- This one was my favourite Dragon Ball Game, I was a monster in this game, 30% damage in one combo and with only one super. It's a shame that Max doesn't know how to play it.
