Koriyama City in Fukushima is a vibrant urban center where old and new-world Japan is on show. The city has also made a mark in the world of spirits, with Fukushima Whisky gaining acclaim for its quality and craftsmanship (which is where our Koriyama journey begins).
Shizuka begins the day at Asaka Distillery, a Japanese whisky distillery over 250 years old. Asaka was originally in the sake production industry; however, switched to whisky after a post-war rice shortage. Shizuka tours the distillery, learns about the production process, and then creates her own custom whisky blend. Next, she heads to Otomo Bakery, known and loved for its original cream bread. Following this, she heads to The Kitchen Platform for some fusion food, followed by a visit to Takeya onigiri stand. Post-onigiri, Shizuka heads to an elegant cocktail bar for a drink to round off her Koriyama adventure.

:P Merry Christmas!
Just recently I watched a video of a steak restaurant on Japan cooking wagyu with whisky. Now I came across this.
oh! wagyu with whiskey! We wanna try!
@@JapanbyFood So do I. 😋
Japanese whiskey is SO expensive! Now I know why!
That whiskey looks so delicious
It was!
Shizukaaaaaaa
shizuka ❤
Shizuka, I just found your long lost sister: Daphne from Hells Kitchen US Season21. It is mind boggling
I can drink wine all day but I think brandy or whiskey would knock me right over. lol.
Yep!:D
I think the whiskey made you lose your voice. Did you gargle it? hahaha, they say to swish the wine around to get the taste but my teeth are far to sensitive for it, especially white's. Well, anyway's. Cheers!@@JapanbyFood
It sounded like Shizuka had a bit of a cold in this video. If she did, I hope she gets better! And big props for the hard work and making this quality video!
Thank you! Shizuka is feeling fine now:)
Maybe to much of the bubbley stuff ...😂
can you guys do some amusement parks?
Great idea!
Talk to later, going to have a drink lol
cheers!
Visiting Japan would be great. But, it would difficult to replicate the vibe without Shizuka’s warm personality present. I’m definitely going to see if Asaka distillery product are available in the US.
Please check them out!
Are you under the weather? Nevermind.. You had that Phoebe phlegm thing going on lol
This lake almost looks like a Scottish lake🥃 kampai Shizuka🍻
OMS!!!
Take care, Shizuka. You seem to be coming down with something.
Mantap Ci 🫶🏻
The closed caption is too fast. I can't get the full scope of what's being said.
let us work on that:)
Drunk girl back?! Ya buddy!❤
She is BACK!
Shizuka makes sake beer and now whiskey Second career coming soon with her own brands ?
Looks like it!
🥃🥃🙂🙂👏👏
Cheers!
After the nth glass of whiskey (correctly spelled with an e) Shizuka unexpectedly passed out, was taken away in a stretcher and was given mouth-to mouth resuscitation by a female EMT who also succumbed to her breath and required some urgent medical attention of her own!
The Japanese spelling is actually without the "e". It depends on the country of origin, and since Japanese whisky has its roots in Scotland where they write it without the "e", it follows the same concept.
@@KeshuThe origins of whiskey are from both Scotland and Ireland where it is spelled with an "e" however, my remark was purely sarcastic and not serious or educational.
Your own Japanese-Canadian blend....hmmmm, no symbolism there, huh? Was the taste your personality? What an interesting activity, almost like your recent sake video!
The symbolism is that it represents me because *I’m* a Japanese-Canadian blend haha 😆
@ShizukaAnderson Yes, I know...that was sort of a wise guy comment. But you described the taste, so I was wondering if it matched your personality! 😊
@@spang931 Haha I would like to say it does, but maybe only because it suits the taste that I like 😆
I think your descriptions on this video about the processes and the science in the whisky and glass segments are a bit wanting and not on par with some of your other videos. For instance, in the whisky segment, malted barley (not wheat--it said so on the bag, I believe) has an acrospire which contains the enzymes to break starch down into fermentable sugars (first you make beer, then you make whisky from the beer). The glass segment was quite disjointed as we could not determine what kind of glass you started with, what you applied to it, and how the final design was obtained. Normally, glass etching is achieved with fluorine compounds, which are quite toxic and difficult to contain (they need to be stored in special wax-based containers), so I doubt that is the process you used.
Japan by Alcohol ^^
Lately it has really been like that!
Hey Honestly You're Awesome But I Hate Whiskey 😑
ohhh no! Hopefully you will find sth you like in the next vid!
@@JapanbyFood No You Misunderstood I Don't Drinking byway But Have a Great Time With That 👍👍
Shizuka sister please don't take of alcohol take care of health ❤ i am from Indian fan of yours
radioactive whiksy
Compared to alot of irish and scotch whiskey's, japanese whiskey's available in the u.s doesn't fare to well. Not to say there are not a few respectable japanese whiskey's. Nikka Days and Togouchi Blended Whiskey are a couple of top performers. as you could taste, the longer a whiskey is aged, the smoother and more complex/tasty it becomes. And expensive lol. Love that coat, quite stylish!
Thanks for sharing! We do love Japanese whiskey!
