      I've produced babies of three species so far. Selenocosmia peerboomi, Pterinochilus murinus and most recently Neoholothele incei. My female Brachypelma albopilosum "Nicaragua" has a large egg sac now, but I'm not 100% certain of its fertility.

    Hey Greg. My name is Kyle and I'm wondering what the species is called that is in the thumbprint for the feeding video? Looking for heavy webers for my collection, if you wouldn't mind giving me a few names? Thanks in advance!

    • @GregRiceTarantulas
      @GregRiceTarantulas  7 років тому +1

      Hello Kyle. I believe the thumbnail for this video is of my Pterinochilus murinus aka Orange Bitey Thing. They're an old world species from Africa. If you don't have experience with old world spiders, or some of the faster bitey new worlds, please don't get yourself one yet. They're not afraid to stand up to any intrusion by you. They're a bite first-ask questions later kind of spider and their venom is quite strong. The venom load and potency of an adult is enough to kill a cat or small dog.
      All this being said, there are some great heavy-webbers out there that are much nicer to keep and don't pose much of a risk to you or any other household pets. Some examples are:
      Neoholothele incei- a beautiful olive green terrestrial dwarf from the Caribbean. (Not in this video, but peppered throughout my last two feeding videos)
      Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens- commonly called the Green Bottle Blue, a lovely Venezuelan terrestrial(3:14)
      Ephebopus murinus- can be quite feisty; these guys either become "pet holes" or web up the entire enclosure. Mine is the latter.(11:39)
      Hapalopus sp "Colombia Large"- sometimes called the "Pumpkin Patch" are a lovely orange and black dwarf species that love to web up everything. They like to bolt up and out of their enclosure. Be prepared for that if you get one. (not in this feeding video but in Feeding video #3 at 13:20.)
      Hopefully I fully covered your question.

    Very nice collection! I've gotten into reptiles recently, but my tarantula collection will still grow...Still need an albiceps... and an E murinus (yours is freaking gorgeous btw)..hey I noticed your marshalli always seems to be out..I gave my wc adult female about 8 inches of substrate...I never, ever see her. Do you give yours that much to burrow in? And do you tickle her out for the videos? I'd like to see mine more often. She'll only let me tickle her out occasionally. She's beautiful and very big.

    • @GregRiceTarantulas
      @GregRiceTarantulas  9 років тому

      Spider Man Thanks Spider Man. My E. murinus is quite the looker now right? I won her in a raffle last July.
      Though my marshalli doesn't have a whole lot of substrate depth, around 2.5" she's made some cool interconnecting tunnels. I usually do tickle them a bit to get them to attack in the open, on camera, and to get them into attack mode.

      +Greg Rice Nice. I think the next time my marshalli is out I'm going to change her enclosure a bit.

    Hey greg ik this is an old video but do you have any mating advice for me? I dont wanna lose my male:( i have two cobalt blues that i love to death hes relatively the same size as her i guess. But im getting nervous cus shes quite fast and is a little pris idk how to keep her from killing him i fear i wont he fast enough to save him? Any advice please

    • @GregRiceTarantulas
      @GregRiceTarantulas  7 років тому

      The female should be a lot larger than him If they're both mature.
      Unfortunately I'm not very experienced with breeding. You might try introducing them in territory that is not their own. I'd try putting them both in a shallow, wide tupperware container where it would be easy for him to run away if things start to go south. Keep her well fed of course before introducing them and stand guard with something with which you can separate them if you see her starting to become aggressive. A sturdy piece of cardboard and tongs is what I'd use. Good luck!

    • @AvaaaBear
      @AvaaaBear 7 років тому

      ok thank you yes they are both mature i meant hes full grown for a male so compared to her i think they are a good match and she wont see him as a weakling to eat cus i heard if they male too small she'll eat him. Im giving her a pinky tonight (baby mouse) and let her eat up and maybe thursday ill try to mate them. Thank you yes i got like a fish type net to catch her in after the process incase she tries to strike.. Ill try the tupperware, thank you for some advice though i didnt even think about feeding her i just got her a pinky so hope it goes well. I wouldnt care so much but he was my first male and hes super calm with me i dont wanna be a horrible person and let my baby get killed ;~;

    • @GregRiceTarantulas

      Relax man. Don't worry. Just make sure it has water and then be patient. It could be in premolt for several weeks before it molts. As long as it's nice and plump and has water, it's good. The spider knows what it's doing.
