It's all about the skill, talent, and quality of the songwriting. The gear itself makes very little difference, though it can serve to inspire.

These are my favorite HP videos. I love the way you inspire me to play. Side note: I DID finally rerecord the vocals and the lead guitar track on the song I wrote from the PodGO competition. It sounds much better. Thanks for the inspiration over the years Henning! Love ya, pal. Get out there and play everyone and have a great weekend!

100% sure, if you would send these 3 songs to any big producers in the world, they wouldn't call you back asking you why you used a cheap amp and guitar. No one can tell what's in a music production after is done.

This is not just a recording setup, with a gig bag and some backup cables this setup can probably survive some bar gigs, this Blackstar is actual loud as hell!
But for pure bedroom player like me (for now) I think it is better to just plug straight into the interface and using high quality plugins, the micing process is a slow and painful one for me to figure out the sound that I want, but I guess that's the fun part!

  • @Broccoli_Highkicks
    @Broccoli_Highkicks Рік тому +2

Sometimes, low budget gear is kind of the point. There are styles of music you can be creative in, where lo-fi sounds actually help you. Whether it's punk or black metal, or it's even a lot of early classic rock, the "ugly", harsh sounds from cheap gear can help shape an entire style of music.
With the proper creative inspiration, you can use any gear to make music.

  • @nedim_guitar

Great concept! That's sort of my philosophy too. I don't need to have expensive stuff, but if I can afford that little something special, I'll go for it. I've got only two amps, a Blackstar Artist 15 and a Marshall DSL20CR. I prefer the Blackstar, because it's fricking loud! And it has a beautiful punch, the string attack is so good on it!
I've also built a pedalboard with not too expensive pedals. The Boss IR-200 is the most expensive pedal, and most other pedals I've bought have been new or used for 100-200 Euros. My complete pedalboard cost probably around 1,500 Euros. So it's not cheap, but it was an investment. I sold some stuff, like my Blackstar HT-20 (MK 1), my Boss GT-8, my Line 6 Pod HD Pro, some guitars and pedals have come and gone and I've lost some money on all that, but now I finally have a rig that I'm actually playing instead of just tweaking sounds. The music I'm making doesn't suck either, it's sort of a spacey, shoegazey rock. Henning's let's talk song videos have helped, and also that other guy's ... Whatever his name is (sorry I forgot). I'll buy the course that will soon be released.
The important thing is just to play your music with what you've got. You might need to change things up, but don't obsess about expensive gear that's all top of the line.

Nicely put together. I have some "nice guitars", but I also believe in finding the best value when I'm looking for "that different sound" in my guitar tool kit (12 string...I found a very nice used one, Baby Sitar, baritones, bass, and my latest... an 8 string headless fan fret guitar...never imagined that I would own something like this!, semi hollow body, smaller sized full hollow body guitar... you get the idea...)

I started with an old tube radio receiver as an amp, slightly modded so you could connect a guitar... Of course, the occasional electric shock was part of the game :) These times are so great for (young) musicians, that only older people like me can really appreciate it. I'd still prefer a Katana over the Blackstar for live playing and forego the computer interface until later.

Whereas when I'm watching the latest namm footage, it's the opposite, it makes me wanna sell everything I have. There's one aspect you left out tho: The DAW. Maybe it's just a standard prerequisite everybody's supposed to know about. I don't. Some interfaces come with a license for PreSonus Studio One or something else. But say I bought one of the cheaper interfaces that doesn't come with a DAW. Would you rather spend a couple of bucks on a DAW or use something free like GaragBand?

Almost two years ago I came to Germany for a business trip. I didn't take any of my guitars and that botheed me a lot, because I was planning to visit my country for a weekend in two weeks. I was lucky enough to buy second-handed Ibanez GRG250DX in a perfect condition for €150. It has Edge III tremolo which stays perfectly in tune like my Ibanezes Prestige. And it has not movable trust rod cover just like my Prestiges xD. I would advise beginner guitarists to buy used gear if they know someone who can tell if everything is ok with it.

For me that's a problem with all the gear they have nowadays, whether it's cheap or expensive It detracts from the point of it all which is JAMMING AND MAKING MUSIC! Like you always say and I agree if it sounds good it sounds good. If the notes are there and the songs are good, You might have something! If you're playing something slow and really clean you might be able to tell if the gear is Good or not. As a musician we forget that everybody else isn't a musician. They're just listening. The metal song sounded really good, The song was very fast or had an up-tempo beat it's a lot harder to tell if it's cheap equipment and like I said only a musician will pick it apart! ONE OF YOUR BEST RECENT VIDEOS! See you on the next one Henning...😊

Yeah, sometimes getting new gear, making music on your own and practicing is all about not feeling you're good enough, it's about low self confidence. I started a band in September, and it's been tough to find a drummer and a bassist, but we've at least landed a drummer this week. And possibly a basist too. And it feels great! The change for me came when I started building my first real pedalboard in 2021. I've just been playing so much more, even though it was mostly through headphones, but I've been using my amps more too.
Just go out, look for people to play with and play live music! At least in a rehearsal room.

Using a mic on a cab is still the best way to record a guitar. if you have higher end gear, the DI outs and IR loaders are good, but an amp like this doesn't have that and the headphone out is NOT what you want... with a bigger budget you could use a whole lot of different gear...

The unboxing music is soo casual Pokemon, and I honestly wouldn't want it any other way.
    I will say that...
From what I've been able to gather about the new Blackstar Debut 50r?
Clearly based on it's price point first and foremost?
It just knocked out the original Boss Katana 50 with it's FX loop, and the only solid state "beginner" combo I can think of with an FX loop within this price point is the Orange 35RT.
They already had me at Mosfet tho.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    My hypothetical is this....
Let's say you perhaps already have invested in a Laptop+interface, Tonex pedal, or some other more expensive high end modeler?
    Buy two of these.
    No shit
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's seriously an all analog capable dual 1x12 "giggable" combo (wet/dry) action bang around option for what?
    A cool grand?
    Not too shabby IMO.
    To be completely honest?
The feature announcement of this amp impressed me more than anything St James had for months.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope what Blackstar is actually offering here competitively registers with some viewers.
Only because the only other solid state combo amp within this MSRP with an FX loop?
    The Orange 35RT 1x10
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On stage? I'd rather have a pair of these Blackstar Debut 50s!
You always raise the freakin' demo/review bar Henning, and I think that's why Oscar
    loves you so much. 🙌
