These are called hearty hibiscus! The winter frost kills them to the ground and you cut away the dead limbs and they cone back every late spring! Mine are back and beautiful!

Good evening, it's evening here in the Philippines whenever i tune in, Christmas feels with those red and green hibiscus, gorgeous blooms, and in our tropical country we call hibiscus as "gumamela". Children mashed the blooms with liquid soap to make bubbles. lol to the flying dust with your little gardener.

The Summerific have lighter colors too. I planted a Summerific Perfect Storm Hibiscus and a Summerific Choco Latte Hibiscus this spring and they are gorgeous. One is more light pink, white striations and deep red throated and the other is more white with light pink striations and a deep red throat. The show they're still putting on is no disappointment!

@Mo Lansing it would be so nice to share pictures in the comment section. I would actually love to see your garden. I LOVE red roses to be honest and I have a few but red flowers just stick out like a sore thumb in my garden against my house. I actually wear a lot of red clothing too. Maybe I need to rethink the red. 😀

I have a hibiscus that a client gave me 20 years ago and it still beautiful. The easiest plant I have ever grown. We live in Nebraska so it gets some pretty harsh winters. You and Aaron make a great team, love watching you everyday!

My neighbor has the same ones that you have in your yard. They are so beautiful. I get so much joy out of their bush! And for anyone else reading my comment - these plants are tough! I am in North Texas where the heat from Hades controls our summertime temps. There is no drip or sprinkler system where the plant lives and it THRIVES!!! It's cut down to a few inches above the base in the winter - only to grow as tall as me each year & I'm 5'4".

Phyllis, I had some a few years ago in yellow. I let them get ulgy looking in the winter and didn’t deadhead. Then in March I cut them to the ground and by summer they were back in full force. They grew will over 5ft’. Now I’m going to get more to make a hedge around my utility box. Love them and they are my favorite tropical plant.

I've had great luck with pruning our Berry Awesome back in the Spring - not Fall - and pinching back the new growth when it's about 8-10 inches tall to encourage branching/more blooms. The only pest I've encountered on my hibiscus is a hibiscus sawfly... They do a decent amount of damage if left unchecked, but the PW hibiscus is super strong and hardy and can stand up to a bit of chewing. Overall this is absolutely one of the best perennials in my garden! Zone 5b, NY!

I had the same problem with those little pest , so what I did was after I washed my dishes I threw the rest of the dish water over the plant and it really kept those pest away , I haven’t seen any pest on them in awhile. It worked for me.

HIbiscus always remind me of my childhood. We had one growing in a big container by the pool and every summer I would wait for it to put on its show. Seemed like it took forever, with the hydrangeas nearby already in full bloom. They certainly make up for lost time.

Oh my gosh such beautiful plants for my coffee with Laura this morning! You had such a good helper in digging the holes and that is so neat the Caleb loves to garden. I can see you and Benjamin in a couple more years out planting together. I absolutely love hibiscus and fell in love with them when I lived on the island of Kauai for a few years. I am so excited to get some of these for the playground next year (hopefully) as I think the children will enjoy them. I found a small plant at a Lowes and brought it home only to discover that squirrels love the blossoms and they ate all the buds off!!!! So I am now trying to protect it from the squirrels so it will bloom again LOL

Hi Laura, the colours of those hibiscus flowers are just gorgeous, even the leaves are beautiful. We in South Africa take the hibiscus plants for granted because they are a very common plant in our gardens and the flowers are not so big like yours are. Even the foliage is beautiful, I would like for my garden to be beautiful like yours one day. Congratulations on your second pregnancy.

My grandma used to grow beautiful hibiscus, you could see the blooms from the road. She liked red, I liked the white ones. One of my uncles just to say the blooms were "the size of dinner plates." It is amazing that they completely die back in winter then shoot up to bushes that get larger every year. Major issue in NC was Japanese Beatles, for that reason, I do not grow them, nor do I grow roses. I moved in 2017 and this property has three what grandma used to call "old timey cane roses." I left them and they are pretty neat they take care of themselves and they are pretty much done blooming in June before the Japanese Beatles show up.

I myself am quick to pull out things that don't look nice or dead. Thank gosh, I didn't pull this out😳! The blooms last just 1 day, Thankfully it's full of blooms! So no issues with lack of blooms. I have a beautiful Cherry Choco Latte Hibiscus that I placed in a tub of water. This is the second summer for this plant and it always amazes me how beautiful and large it has gotten. It is in the original garden center pot of soil and I make sure the tub always has plenty of water. It does make me sad when the blooms disappear so quickly or a wind storm will knock them off, but they always keep blooming. Love this plant. I'm in Kentucky.

My dad grew up in So Cal in the 50s and 60s and has fond memories of the big beautiful hibiscus in his yard. My parents have lived in Nor Cal out in the country my whole life and Dad wouldn’t trade it for anything (he has a beautiful large hillside yard to work in), but it’s too cool and shady for any tropical plants or even citrus. They recently got a second home closer to me in So Cal, and he is excited to grow things in the yards there. The FIRST thing he said was how much he wants a hibiscus! It would be really fun to grow one well suited to making agua frescas (jamaica) or tea. But I also LOVE the double-bloomed ones, especially the blue one you have, Laura! Maybe small Hibiscus in pots lining the drive would be nice. We are going to try to incorporate a lot of CA natives and I am unsure of how to design in harmony with both those and the tropical plants that are so popular here (palms, plumeria, bird of paradise, bougainvillea, split-leaf philodendron, and citrus are very common in residential gardens alongside the trees and hedges popular all over the US).

I just love your videos! You guys (yal) go the extra mile in editing and showing things like how your own hibiscus is doing after a few seasons. They (the videos) are so very informative, inspirational, and entertaining! Thank you so much for all the effort you put into them! The dirt toward your face was so funny! The little guy helping was precious.

I was so inspired and excited learning about hardy hibiscus from your video that I ordered 4 plants today (Summerific Berry Awesome)! I thought hibiscus was only tropical and never considered it for my yard in the western NC mountains. Can’t wait for them to arrive and plant them in the front of my home! Thank you SO much for all of your wonderful gardening videos!

Perfect timing, I just found, bought and planted a Summerific Cherry Choco Latte here in Florida Zone 9B. I was so excited and can't wait to see how this performs throughout the year here.

Hi Laura and Aaron! OMGolly those are beautiful! I love how big the flowers get. The red ones are pretty, but I like the pink ones you have better. What a nice thing for you to do for your friends! Caleb was so cute trying to help! Thank you so much for sharing!

I have 13 Hibiscus planted in my yard (3 in my front yard, 1 on my side yard and 9 in the back yard). Three are peach double petal, 4 pale red, yellow, white, and two are 2-toned. I'm in Florida an this is a good floral plant that looks great all summer to fall. If it freezes in winter, they come back in spring. I had 2 on the north side of my yard 1-1/2 ft from fence for a year and they struggled the whole time and never flowered. So, I dug them up and planted in a new bed in front of my shed where they are coming to life and have started to flower. U dead head them every day which helps then to have more buds and it looks better without decaying flowers on it where ants swarm on the decay.

Beautiful! I have a Summerific Coco Cherry Hibiscus and it looks gorgeous at the moment. It's full of enormous pink blooms and I have it under-planted with some grasses...looks really pretty. So sweet of Caleb to help you out. I too think it's wonderful when kids show an interest in gardening and want to help out in some way.

So beautiful. Grasshoppers ate the new growth and buds before I knew it. We did have one flowering time a few weeks ago thankfully.

I have 2 holy grail hibiscus 🌺. My flowers this year are the size of large dinner plates and the plants are covered with blooms. They are in part shade to shade only receiving morning light. They do receive lots of water each day. Simply amazing plants. Currently they are being battered by Isaias, zone 6b, southern NJ and survived tropical storm Fay a couple weeks ago. Our plants have to be tough in our garden 😅
