    With baseline measurements taken in our previous video, we are now ready to dive in and modify the 2005 Piaggio Typhoon 50cc 2-stroke Hi Per 2 engine.
    STAGE ONE (PART 1): De-restricting the bike. Why? Who doesn't want free power. In its pure un-restricted form, the bike will perform like it should have from the factory without all the government regulations to make the bike slower and more environmentally friendly. For the North American models, the only restriction is the brass restrictor covering the 17.5 Dellorto PHVA carburetor opening. European models will have a washer in the variator restricting maximum speed and an exhaust restrictor for emission. In the first part of this video I will show how to remove the brass restrictor. The following episodes will show you how to tune the carburetor after removing the restrictor for peak performance.
    *** Many claim that the bike performs worse after removing the carburetor. Some even say that the brass restrictor is supposed to cover the carburetor to IMPROVE performance. While there is some truth to that since PHVA carburetors (slide carbs) are more sensitive to change, I will demonstrate to you if the carburetor is turned correctly, you will see more gains to make this change worthwhile.
    If you want your bike to bury the speedo needle like ours did, subscribe and stay tuned for future episodes. We will show you how to destrict the bike from factory, install the Leo Vince ZXR exhaust, open up the intake, and modify the transmission. Come along with us as we transform this little 50cc scooter from a slow and boring bike to a fast and peppy machine that it should've been from factory.
    Other bikes that shares the same platform/engine includes Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, Peugot, Gilera, TPH, Typhoon, LT50, LX50, ET50, Scarabeo, Stalker, Zip, Fly, etc.

    There is a restrictor in the transmission!
    It is on the variator side (rollers side) it looks like a washer, and if sandwiched between variator halves, it actually stops the pulley from getting tighter, removing the washer WILL bring up acceleration and a little bit of top speed.

      It all depends whether lighter roller or heavier rollers let your engine realize it's maximum horsepower better. If your engine's peak horsepower is 11,000RPM and your roller weights are too light causing the engine to operate beyond 11,000RPM then your bike won't be any quicker.

The Malossi manual said to change CDI and pipe, remove carb washer, fit rollers and go for a 65 main jet. I believe that models before 2018 traditionaly jetted at 68. The bike runs fine but I wonder if running the wrong jet in such a limited range could be bad for the engine? There doesn't seem to be hardly any smoke at all when warmed up now. • @roythearcher
    @roythearcher 7 років тому +11

    Your assumption that your engine will seize if the mixture is too lean due to a lack of lubrication is incorrect!
    lubrication is regulated by a separate oil pump and is not affected by the mixture in any way other than the engine speed.
    The overheating you will experience with a lean mixture is due to the lack of cooling that is given by the incoming fuel which is considerable. Most two stroke engines rely heavily on this cooling to run within their safe operating temperature range as well as keeping the fuel burn characteristics at the optimum for maximum power output.

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +1

      roythearcher good to know! I have adjusted the oil feed accordingly. Regardless a lean mixture will indeed accelerate engine wear and potential piston seizure so erring on the rich side is recommended

    • @roythearcher
      @roythearcher 7 років тому

      It's also why most motorcycle makers in general don't recommend the use of "gasohol" or other organic fuels in their engines as the cleaning effects of this fuel substitute strips away any oil based lubricants and accelerates wear to an unacceptably high level!

    • @FIFTYmil

    Hello sir, I have one question. Recently I upgraded my Fly50 2t with Gianneli Go exhaust and rejeted it. It was done by a mechanic. Now I need to put on original exhaust to pass MOT. Will it cause any damage if I put original exhaust withous rejeting it. Its 5 mile drive. Thank you

      I agree, the rejetting likely increased fueling. If that was the case, then the original exhaust may cause the engine to run a bit rich leading to soot and carbon buildup. What was the original jet and what was the new jet size after rejetting?

      Have a look at your air filter and change/clean it if dirty. Also look at your spark plug as this will tell you a lot about what's going on in your engine.
      If the firing end is a light brown/tan colour, everything's cool and you should leave it alone!
      If its black and has a lot sooty deposits on it, you're fuel/air mixture is too rich, indicating a poorly set-up carb or choked air filter or wrong grade plug (too cold).
      If it's black and oily in appearance, there is too much two-stroke oil going through the engine and this can cause misfires due to a fouled plug and the oil pump needs adjusting (rare!) or more commonly, indicates a badly worn engine.
      If the centre electrode insulator is white in colour and may be blistered then the engine is running too hot due to poor set-up of carb, exhaust or there is an air leak in the induction side of the system. Either way, this needs correcting quickly or you will seize the engine destroying it at worst and requiring a re-bore at best! This condition could also be caused by a wrong grade of plug (too hot).
      Carb settings are critical on a two-stroke and most faults can easily be rectified so look for the simple things first before you go looking deeper for something that may not be there!

      DJ Dimitris Priftis There is definitely a problem. My 4-stroke 50cc reaches 80kmh and my 2-stroke 50cc reaches 95kmh. A 150cc should definitely achieve much more than that.What was your top speed previously when the gy6 was still 125cc?

      Before you tune the timing, I think the more evident problem is that you lost 20kmh going from 125cc to 150cc. If you installed everything correctly, it is most likely that you're not supplying enough fuel for the larger displacement but that is just a guess. That is, your carburetor needs to be tuned for the extra displacement

      Assuming it's a newer model, SR50 comes equipped with injectors. As such, the injectors are only able to cope with minor changes as you would typically see due to altitude/temperature/humidity changes. Significant modifications to the intake such as this modification here would likely result in a lean condition because it exceeds the capacity of the injectors and they can no longer supply the extra fuel needed.

    If I remove the restrictor without tuning the carb will it create a problem ?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  3 роки тому

      In most cases, yes. In some rare circumstances, no.

    2 or 4 stroke ?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  8 років тому

      This is for a 2-stroke piaggio typhoon and similar models equipped with the 49cc Hi-Per 2 engine and Dellorto 17.5mm carburetor

      I have a YamahaVino 2 stroke with the Itallian engine

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  8 років тому

      Sean Finkel Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the 2 Stroke Vinos are equipped with a Minarelli 1E40QMB engine which is not the same as the Hi-Per 2 Piaggio engines

      Can you tell me more about the CPI? I am not familiar with it.

    • @hockeyflow9100

      its taiwanese/italian scooter wich has minarelli engine.

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому

      the minarelli engine is much like the piaggio's hiper2 engine. If I am correct they even share the same carburetor. Thus, the theories applied here should help improve the power delivery of your CPI scooter.

      Sorry I don't remember as it has been a while ago but I think it's a 82 main jet @ 600m above sea level, dry climate. The following episodes on my channel talks about tuning the jet to the correct size.

    • @pierpaololongo708
      @pierpaololongo708 7 років тому

      The phva17.5 mount the main jet 65 and the phbg the main jet 90

    Just buy a 70cc from Malossi or Polini and buy a Reverse exhaust and ur done

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +4

      And that is the reason why people complain about their 70cc being beat by a 50

    What would happend if you just incressed the airflow in a 2stroke? Would it break by the time?

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  5 років тому +2

      It would not produce any extra power. As well, on a 2 stroke you would starve the engine of fuel and lubrication cooling and cause piston seizure.
