Another great video. Learned a couple of things that I didn't know before. I would also love a full video on just traffic rules and how you would do them instead of Firewall Rules.
Thank you very much for the detailed information! I have a question regarding forced disconnection: Is there a way to set the time period for automatic disconnection myself with UDR? I am a customer with 1&1 and need to renew my connection every 24 hours.
Didn't realize the traffic rules have basically taken over the manual fire wall rules. I guess i could nuke my RFC 1918 rules and create traffic rules. I don't do this stuff enough and always struggle when changing. Thx Cody!
im running the 1st version of the udm no poe, but upgrading the the udm se, im sick of waiting on ubiquity empty promises the dreamwall pro looks like a dead empty plastic box at least by the time they get there stuff together it will be 2050 and by that time allot of things have already changed. LOL. I really wanted to avoid the rack setups since my space is very limited but looking at how im going to lay it out things look like its going to be a u4 setup, if only ubiqity could have made this thing more powerful that would be sweet, its so small and fits really nice into some tight places. Nice information Cody, thanks.
the other disadvantage of the dream wall platform is reliability. If you have a component fail, I don't believe they can be individually replaced so you have a 1000+ dollar brick, versus if you have individual equipment it can be swapped / repaired with less of a headache.
What I don’t understand is if you are not running anything other than network without any firewall stuff and no apps why isn’t it faster. I feel it’s artificially hamstrung to 700Mbps.
Argument from a business perspective is that they don’t want features i.e protect or inner space to cause a decrease in the existing feature like network. Therefore causing it to be equally handicapped is “fair”
I saw that your UDR was on OS 3.2.12. 3.2.9 is not showing the comment that 3 applications can be run, so that must be brand new. Since you said you didn't see it in the ReadMe, I didn't know if that made anyone curious about when it actually came about.
In what way is it underpowered? I don't know much about this stuff. Is it lacking in some way to be used for fairly large home network? I have 40 wifi devices and maybe 20 wired.
Hi tell me do you have a video on the Unify AP where you show how to setup remote access to the AP out site the network as I would like to view from my work on the AP my son's activity please let me know as i also would like to block him temporarily from the AP when needed to please
I just wish this little nugget had better specs, it is so good for what it is except for the horrible throughput with basic idp. With security configured and SQM for buffer bloat enabled I'm getting about 300/300 stable on a gigabit fibre connection. I can push it to 400/400 but then I'm starting to get some issues with buffer bloat.
UDM Base can still only run Network and Inner Space - no other option available. Regarding 'Suspicious Activity' you can add more than 3 up to 10, but it warns you that more than 3 can decrease performance
Which ever works better for you. Ubiquiti is really pushing traffic rules. There are certain things you can’t do with traffic rules like blocking the networks for seeing other gateway IPs
Can I have two IP come into one modem in a buissness? If not can i have the modem go into an unmanaged switch than go to a unify firewall for a seperate network and than go to a dream machine or cloud key and run another
The UDR would do a lot more than that though it’s not strictly a router. It host controllers. If you need something with higher speed that’s when we update to the UDM pro

Just got this and the 16 port lite switch for my home. Replacing a Tenda router. Hope this helps 🙏🏼
I always learn something new on your videos Cody, thank you.

ngl. this is all a small business really need
I wish I could show you my serach history. I was looking for this exact video this morning.
Thank you unifi for now allowing three apps install all we need now is talk in the uk and a way to add our own provider and the soft phone
Talk is already available in the UK. You can add a 3rd -party VoIP server, but it’s not exactly user friendly to do it.
@@rickwookie I haven’t had a look lately will have to when I’m at my parents as the udr is at hers not at mine

Same question. I have a 500mb fiber connection. I barely get over 400
@@marcwiloneI have 500 Mbps internet and speeds always just above 500 so maybe thats your ISP doing traffic management.
Wish the UDM could do this...I regret not getting my dad a UDM pro or SE. He'd love to switch his phone # and add a few cameras.
Throw a cloud key or a NVR behind it. Cloud key is limited on storage tho. Nobody makes 2.5" spinner drives with any size anymore.

it was 3.2.7, but I can't get passed 300mbps with some traffic rules, so 2 apps or 6 doesn't make a difference
I think when they say only 2 cameras they mean thru the POE. I am running a total of 5 of the WIFI Protect G3(3)and G4(2) with no issues.
alright, cody, thanks!
So a device that was already woefully underpowered, is getting additional applications crammed into it?
In what way is it underpowered? I don't know much about this stuff. Is it lacking in some way to be used for fairly large home network? I have 40 wifi devices and maybe 20 wired.

Is this a software update for an old UDR, or is there an updated UDR with better hardware?
Just a software update

I've noticed other videos use firewall rules instead of traffic rules for blocking one network from reaching another. Is one better than the other?
Which ever works better for you. Ubiquiti is really pushing traffic rules. There are certain things you can’t do with traffic rules like blocking the networks for seeing other gateway IPs
Hey the link to the video is a UA-cam studio link and we can’t access that.
Should be able to now
How do you find the UDR against the UCG ultra for home use on sub 500mb internet ?
Also im on PPOE which i see has an effect on speed and performance
But does it, many think its under powered just for network . Yes it can run three but not optimally
For the UTP Touch Max Phones have you had issues where they stop ringing until reboot?
I have not had that issue
Does anyone know if the UDR now supports internal DNS server?

I dont need them under the same network. Just a new ui account
How's it going to handle that when it can't even handle the network app very well.
Nice video.
I can you send SMS messages to business customers with unifi talk? sending images and quick chat supoort etc.
It’s very very limited right now. You can only send sms no images
I still can't believe the UDR can't do 1 Gbps. My old neatgear r7000 from 2013 can.
The UDR would do a lot more than that though it’s not strictly a router. It host controllers.
If you need something with higher speed that’s when we update to the UDM pro
@@MactelecomNetworks It does do more. I still use but it is disappointing. I'd rather the UDR form factor for home use.
I hate hate hate the formfactor.
