This is what the UXG lite should have been. They need to streamline their product line and just give the option of using the builtin controller or change the setting to direct the network to use the controller of your choice (eg. ck2, hosted, etc.)
The UXG Lite and Pro are for service providers and companies with lots of locations that want to use a single controller for several scaling benefits. Hence the higher price / price-elasticity. They don't want consumers to run their own separate controller. They want the chance to upsell every consumer the extra apps/products that go along with it. Get them into the full consumer unifi ecosystem.
@@SmokingCrop I don't get why the UXG-Lite is more expensive than the more powerful Cloud Gateway Ultra (dual core vs quad core) - see IDS/IPS categories and higher VPN throughput. Seriously, Ubiquiti's product lines are just a mess right now...

I’m doing a major home network overhaul soon. I really want one but they’re sold out. The U7 Pro AP came back in stock today so I was able to order that. Also got a Netgear DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem and Ubiquiti Flex Mini switch. Just waiting on the Gateway Ultra now! Edit: Thanks for the tutorial! I will definitely use it when setting up my Gateway Ultra (if it ever comes back in stock)!
Cody, @6:08 if you'd like to enable aggregation on two ports, you should only select one port, then select advanced manual and change port from switching to aggregate and then select the second port in the menu below
In conclusion, anything "Ultra" is actually more of "Home" as both the price and lower specs are well set for a home user or small office. They used to call it "lite," but Apple's name is being applied.
I was on the website like the minute it released in my area. Happened to refresh the page and a new item showed up. I was confused and felt cool knowing I was probably one of the first to see it lol
Wow! After seeing this, I'm tempted to use the Ultra for connecting my dualk-wan connections instead of buying an UDM-SE! I was going to get some camera's, but, I can always use the switch for my cameras. Sounds like it is totally worth it!

Great video ! And thank you for to be the first ! 🥇I'm just sorry that Unifi's stock replenishment is so slow and time-consuming. I've been waiting for the UDR for months.. let's see how long we now have to wait for the Gateway Ultra.
I feel like these are the missing piece in the Site Magic SDN solution. As you said these would be great for remote branch offices where you only have a handful of staff. In that situation a UDM-Pro could be overkill so to have the ability to have one of these is excellent. HA would make it even better but that is probable asking too much at this price.
This is Interesting, I have a udr at home and felt 1gb connection was limited by the udr. Having the integrated AP is good however. I may swap the udr for this and a new ap

"Alright, thanks" Sorry, just had to add your usual sign-off as it felt incomplete otherwise!! 😆 I'm thinking that this could be a better option over my UDR since I can't get my full 1Gb Fibre download and I would through a CGU? I'm only using Network and so wouldn't miss anything else.
great video! Are you using the Bel Hub double NAT? I heard of the PPOE issues for the ultra and was curious what setup you were using in the video to achieve these speeds? as I have the same setup Bell Five 1.5gbs
I think you mean the Gateway USG, which didn’t have a built in controller but could be adopted by a separate controller. I didn’t see Cody mention that this could be adopted by an external controller. Without that, it’s not the replacement for the USG that many wanted.
Would love to hear a comparison review of a USG vs the UCGU and UX... specifically in regards to a pro vs con between the new models as a replacement to the USG. One such scenario for the comparison would be as an emergency kit-bag replacement to get a Unifi network back up and running where someone's UDM/UDR/UDMP/UDMP-SE/UDW has died and it would need to be setup short-term whilst waiting on a replacement of the user's original equipment (I'm personally in this exact scenario right now as my UDMP was fried during a storm, so I'm currently running my old USG whilst I wait on a new UDMP-SE to arrive, but the USG keeps freezing/hanging, dropping off the network etc.. Admittedly I have 7 Network devices (not including the USG or the UDMP plus 3 Protect cameras) so I would need to go for the UCGU over the UX (due to the support limits of the UX), but others may be interested in such a recommendation.
Just checked the operating temps for the Ultra Switch in comparison to the Flex and it seems the Flex can handle a little higher temps, but I'm interested to see how it works in the real world. I'm implementing a system where the Ultra switch will absolutely have a place if the it can handle non-conditioned temps in the summer whilst powering cameras in my area of the US.
Except for more than two WAN connections. I run VPN gateways between the root router and the modem, and things would be so much easier if I could just send traffic through a simple routing table to its various secure destinations.
They seriously went out of stock within 24 hours. They seemed to have the UDR back in stock too and then WHAM! Gone. Need some supply chain corrections ;)
what is the entry point switch for lag? eg I have a Synology NAS with 2 GBE ports and want to use aggregation. Is there any third-party switch with dynamic lag?

I have a Vilfo router and it gives with VPN´s like Surfshark, OVPN and Mullvad 498Mbit up and down on my 500/500 Mbit-fiber (with Wireguard that is, I havent tried with OpenVPN though) . Since Vilfo is more or less abandonware nowadays I sure will get this one instead, the price is almost to good to be true :o especially compared to Vilfo that cost me $399 plus $90 for the annual software license. But I guess it will be months and months before the next batch is released :/
Hey Cody thanks for your content. This is awesome. I have a question for you, as per my understanding, you're using your Switch to power your gateway. Is that accurate? I can't find any information on their website saying this Gateway supports PoE.
You know I would not mind spending more if the backplane could take advantage of the 2.5Gbps WAN port. My cheapo Acer Predator W6 can do this between wired and wireless clients so its doable. Either they make the plane 2.5Gbps or split the backplane.
What options do I have, if any, to use my Unifi G5 Bullet on a private (closed off/no internet) network? Does the camera host an interface locally, that I can access using a browser? Does Unifi supply anything else, that could be of interest for that usecase? 🙂

The Dream Wall is fine for something like a doctor’s office where you know ahead of time that you’ll have very specific and limited needs and NEVER be expanding, and you’re space constrained so you don’t have room in a closet for a small wall mounted rack. For any other kind of installation, you keep it all in one place by using a Network rack. Mount it on a wall somewhere out of sight. A closet or the basement. Any rack mount equipment mounts to the rack with four bolts. Need more switch ports? Bolt in another switch. Need faster switching? Bolt in a faster switch. Thanks for the great video! I just bought UXG-Lite last week and moved from ER-X. I like the setup so far. But this one seems a better device (better cpu and more ram) and costs less. I am only using it for network (no camera or phone setup), do you think Cloud Gateway Ultra is a better option to UXG Lite if you are only using it for network?
@@MehmetNuriDeveci spec wise: UXG-Lite: A53 dual core @ 1GHz, 1gb DDR3 RAM, 1in, 1 out, needs to do 1 thing only.... UCG-Ultra: A53 Quad core @ 1.5GHz, 3gb DDR4 RAM, 1in, 4 out (1 can be second WAN) is router & controller.... UXG-Lite could be a choice for people who run their own unifi controller, have a cloud based controller, have a cloud key+ that is also used as camera / NVR storage, or those that want everything to be local only / no outside access through third parties.
Since the Controller is built in again, are Ubiquiti slowly phasing out 3rd party support for the Network Application? Also pretty sad they didnt make ports 5 & 6 (The remappable one) 2.5gbE as well. It defeats the purpose when we have 2Gbps/2Gbps fiber connections available here. Also the USW-Ultra-210W would be good if half the ports were 2.5gbE for the U7-Pro's
I just received a Ultra to replace a USG3. Existing network is running a Linux controller with 2 sites (default which is empty) and a site2 instance which was created a few years ago using the export/import method into the Linux controller. I see no way to import or restore a site from a multi-controller (my linux controller) to the Ultra.
Resolved my problem. Change the UI to legacy and perform import of previous site (the backup file). I then get asked to pick the controller site in the backup I want to import. This option is not displayed using the new web UI (User Interface). Hope this helps someone -- or better, Unifi folks fixes this.
Question, I have an original UDM and am thinking of upgrading. Would the Cloud Gateway Ultra be an upgrade for me or should I go UDM Pro? I have no rack, so the smaller devices would be preferable. Thanks!
Only disadvantage is the 2.5gbe wan without 2.5gbe lan port (at least 1). And Also that the 4port 1gbe has only 1gbe switching power. So You can't utilize lets say 2x 1gbe lan via 2.5gbe wan. Why is ubiquity doing this. Almost any device has some sort of the ONE flaw. (Similar to udm-se and it's 8port 1gbe switching power on the 8 port bank for example). Edit: And speaking of 1gbps switching power on the 4port switch - it's even worse if you have 2x 1gbps wan. One of the 4 ports can be configured as a second WAN, but with that you can have only 500mbps to the clients. So nice device with big BUT (as always). We need to wait for the "Ultra Mega Extra" version of this with at least 2.5gbps ports/switching power on the 4port part to fully utilize this idea. Yeah, device itself can self-download firmware updates and perfect speedtests with 2.5gbps speed, nice.
This should have been mentioned in this review. Showing the 2.5 wan port and "speed test" within unifi is not telling the whole picture. The only thing you are going to get over 1gbit is unifi system updates!
I am curious if 2.5 gb port can be assign as LAN port?! Because anyway I have only 1gb line as wan ... So for me it will be better if I can switch to this port allocation. Did anyone received yet the device and can verify if 2.5 port can be allocate as LAN port?
Hi. Great video. Where do you see the benifit for the Gateway Lite? I think that the Gateway Lite no longer makes sense. Unless... Can you please check whether it is possible to set up port 2,3,4 as a DMZ on the Gateway Ultra?
I see the ultra as more of small office and Lite as more of home or extra small startup operation where you only want one device for everything and aren't ready for protect etc... Because remember the lite has wifi built in and one extra port for enough expandability for say a lite switch and once you are ready for direct connections and if you want to add a security camera or two later.

Better CPU, dual-WAN, doesn't require a cloudkey. It's strictly better than the UXG-Lite for the same price. For some reason Ubiquiti charges a premium for it's standalone gateways. It's the same weird price discrepancy between the $379 UDM-Pro and $499 UXG-Pro which does less for more.
Hello Cody, Do you know: I just purchased a Cloud Gateway Ultra and I have a Cloud Key. I want to use the new Cloud Gateway Ultra as just the router is this possible? That would be adopted under the Cloud Key that I have locally for all my other devices. So basically, can I use this a gateway only?
Is it possible to set up UCG Ultra through a web browser without the app? I'm asking because on UXG Lite, you can do that and clone the WAN MAC, plus restore a UniFi Controller backup if needed.
I thought it's finally an replacement for my USG and bought it instant as Ubiquiti anounced it. Now I can't adopt it to my controller because it's not possible. I think I'll sent it back or so. Man that's so sad, I hope they bring an "Gateway Ultra" without "Cloud" like it is with the lite. And another absolute design fail in my eyes is that you can have an 2,5gig internet uplink but no link agregation. So in the end you have the bottleneck with the 1 gig port which is the downlink to the rest of your network.
According to an official reply on the Ubiquiti forums, the Cloud Gateway Ultra CANNOT be managed by another controller, only by its own Network App. You'd have to disable the Network App on your CKG2+ and move your Network config over to the Cloud Gateway Ultra.
@MactelecomNetworks You didnt mention it but the 2.5Gb WAN port might as well be a 1Gb port. UI says clients can only access a maximum of 1Gb across all LAN ports with IDS on or off. When asked why even have a 2.5Gb WAN port they said that if a user has a 2 Gbps connection then the CGU can use the whole 2Gbps to download firmware faster. A bit of a joke really.

can the gateway do aggregation, you showed only the switch but what about the gateway, so many WAN inputs
Have you tested if the unifi express can be used as an access point with the cloud gateway ultra?
nice video, thanks. can you test Wireguard Speedtest? Thanks!
When will it be back in stock for Canadian store?
If I buy this cloud gateway ultra do I necessarily need to buy the 8 port ultra switch and those ultra access points or can I use any other Poe switch from Ubiquiti and the other access points would rather run the wifi 6 Poe access points also do I need a dream machine pro or can I just use this as my router
I wonder if they come with a 16-port version, like on the Lite series.
For some reason when trying to route guest network out of WAN2 it wont pass thru an internet connection, local only
I am new to Unifi, is it possible to set an Ap to the Cloud Gateway Ultra with a Unifi PoE+ Adapter?
What do you need for Unifi cameras?
So the switch is wall mount about ( and magnetic ). What about.the gateway? Can we wall mount that?
Does the cloud gateway ultra have poe port for so the ultra switch can be powered by it?
Thanks for the great video!
I just bought UXG-Lite last week and moved from ER-X. I like the setup so far.
But this one seems a better device (better cpu and more ram) and costs less. I am only using it for network (no camera or phone setup), do you think Cloud Gateway Ultra is a better option to UXG Lite if you are only using it for network?
Integrated controller, and extra ports for lower price.... So I would say yes
@@mysteryliner I mean, there must be something, it doesn’t add up at all
@@MehmetNuriDeveci spec wise: UXG-Lite: A53 dual core @ 1GHz, 1gb DDR3 RAM, 1in, 1 out, needs to do 1 thing only....
I also got the UXG-Lite to replace my ER-X. But I'm returning it and getting the UCG-Ultra. I hope it will be available again in eu-store soon..
@@mysterylinerTrue, but I don't get the higher price of the UXG-Lite - in my opinion Ubiquiti's product lines are a complete mess right now...
Would the cloud gateway ultra and an AP be a better setup than my current UDM Base?
Since the Controller is built in again, are Ubiquiti slowly phasing out 3rd party support for the Network Application?
Also pretty sad they didnt make ports 5 & 6 (The remappable one) 2.5gbE as well. It defeats the purpose when we have 2Gbps/2Gbps fiber connections available here.
Also the USW-Ultra-210W would be good if half the ports were 2.5gbE for the U7-Pro's
Great video
I just received a Ultra to replace a USG3. Existing network is running a Linux controller with 2 sites (default which is empty) and a site2 instance which was created a few years ago using the export/import method into the Linux controller. I see no way to import or restore a site from a multi-controller (my linux controller) to the Ultra.
Resolved my problem. Change the UI to legacy and perform import of previous site (the backup file). I then get asked to pick the controller site in the backup I want to import. This option is not displayed using the new web UI (User Interface). Hope this helps someone -- or better, Unifi folks fixes this.
Is this a mini udm pro ?
How does this compare to the UDM-Pro?
Cody, is it possible if you can make a video on how to do WiFi authentication on Unifi using LDAP from Google Workspace/Admin? Thanks a lot!
Question, I have an original UDM and am thinking of upgrading. Would the Cloud Gateway Ultra be an upgrade for me or should I go UDM Pro? I have no rack, so the smaller devices would be preferable. Thanks!
If you have more than 1gbps internet link, than this device is not for you.
Can you do policy based ruting on a specific port in multi wan config.
You misspelled "Cloyd" in the description. Love the video content. Keep up the great work.
Thanks it’s been corrected :)
Does the Gateway Ultra do PPPOE?
I received mine today and can confirm it has PPPOE.
ive watched a few of your videos but never noticed the blink poster in the back! Huge blink fan, always have been. What are your thoughts on the new album? Did you get to see them in Vegas last year for WWWY? And are you gonna see them on tour this year?
I just put that up first time it’s been in a video 😂 I love the new album.
I didn’t see them in Vegas but I saw two shows in Toronto last year and already have tickets for the next show
I’m a huge blink fan I have Marks signature bass, Tom’s new signature fender and another one on the way
@@MactelecomNetworksAwesome! Imm probably gonna see them this year at the gorge in washington! Obligatory, whats your favorite song(s) (who can pick just one) and album?
what's the difference from the UXG-Lite?
Better CPU, dual-WAN, doesn't require a cloudkey. It's strictly better than the UXG-Lite for the same price. For some reason Ubiquiti charges a premium for it's standalone gateways. It's the same weird price discrepancy between the $379 UDM-Pro and $499 UXG-Pro which does less for more.
@@fostersloverI suspect they want to push everyone off self-hosted so they can mine user data.
More A53 processor cores. If you already have a Cloud Key the UXG-Lite makes sense. If you need a Cloud Key then this is a no brainer.
Hello Cody,
Do you know:
I just purchased a Cloud Gateway Ultra and I have a Cloud Key. I want to use the new Cloud Gateway Ultra as just the router is this possible? That would be adopted under the Cloud Key that I have locally for all my other devices. So basically, can I use this a gateway only?
Hey,
You can not do that. you would have the use the cloud gateway Ultra as your controller
can you have voip prefer wan but, fail over to wan too if needed?
the line to activate the secondary wan is not there on my cloud gateway ultra....Do you know why ?
go into your internet settings in the gateway ultra and set the port for the secondary wan
support PPPOE ?
how can i migrate my udm pro settings to the ultra?
Is it possible to set up UCG Ultra through a web browser without the app? I'm asking because on UXG Lite, you can do that and clone the WAN MAC, plus restore a UniFi Controller backup if needed.
Yeah, you can configure it on a browser locally
@@fosterslover❤
I see on the community forum it may support Identity (free), any word on Identity Enterprise?
Anyone have an idea how this compares to the UXG-Pro?
port forwarding is possible?
1:30 the Power Input should be 210w not 120w
Good catch. Unfortunately I can’t change it now
I thought it's finally an replacement for my USG and bought it instant as Ubiquiti anounced it.
Can this be used in gateway only mode?
Or in conjunction with a Cloudkey Gen2 plus ?
According to an official reply on the Ubiquiti forums, the Cloud Gateway Ultra CANNOT be managed by another controller, only by its own Network App.
You'd have to disable the Network App on your CKG2+ and move your Network config over to the Cloud Gateway Ultra.
@@niikon hmmm but the cloud key can still be used to host protect and other apps?
@@BR0KK85Correct.
the Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra work as a router too?
is the poe input on the switch ultra dynamic? what if yo supply it with just PoE+ instead of PoE++
You can power with poe+ will
Just result in less power output
It says on the site:
- 42W PoE availability with PoE++ input
- 16W PoE availability with PoE+ input
a nordvpn wireguard speedtest would be cool
Hello and thanks for that video, I don't see wifi in the specifications for that unit, does it have wifi? thanks
No wifi
Good to know, thanks.@@MactelecomNetworks
@MactelecomNetworks You didnt mention it but the 2.5Gb WAN port might as well be a 1Gb port. UI says clients can only access a maximum of 1Gb across all LAN ports with IDS on or off. When asked why even have a 2.5Gb WAN port they said that if a user has a 2 Gbps connection then the CGU can use the whole 2Gbps to download firmware faster. A bit of a joke really.
1gb routing even without ips is tough pill to swallow
