You should remind folks that the newer Grizzly recurves do have reinforced limb tips. I shot a deer this past season with my 40# Montana. It was a quick, clean kill. Loved the video Jon!!

Good info, I bought a 1980 (60#) Bear Grizzly in very, very good condition. I am not even a hunter (forbidden in the Netherlands) but I can see the craftsmanship and beautiful details of these Bear recurve bows.
The fact that Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight have trained with these bows (model Grizzly) before they were acting in the movie (1972) Deliverance, ( Voight used, in the movie definitely the Bear Kodiak hunter) was a big plus.
Next chapter is tuning the bow and buying the right arrows. I think I have a new hobby. All the best and greetings Steve.

My Fred bear take down from 1970.was my favorite with interchangable limbs using my Easton alum plastic flex arrows. Still my favorite today. Breaks down into a small case in 4 pièces. Always believed a long bow not a compound gives the game a real chance and really makes you use all your own strength. I'm 70 and still keep in shape shooting bow and arrows. Now that's a sport. Pulling a trigger has no honor compared to a long bow in any culture it's just modern easy killing that's all it's good for or good for nothing

I have a 50 lb griz...absolutely love it. I practice with it and a 40 lb fleetwood. I check my form with the 40 and then move for consistency with the griz. have been a compound shooter (left hand) for over 20 years, but have taught myself to shoot right recurve in the last 3 years. hope to take a game animal this year with a recurve!

Great review! FYI; the Bear Grizzly is 58", is a superb design... it should be, as it's an almost identical copy of the Red Wing Hunter, which was previously introduced by Bob Lee / Wing Archery in the late 50's. Solid bows, very rugged. That 40# is more than enough for deer at 20 yards with a well placed razor sharp broadhead.

The other is a '67 & 56" AMO & 43#S. 56"ers were only made for 2 years & not easy to acquire, this one was my Father's. NEAR perfect condition & still a great shooter.

I shoot the same bow, mines just 45lbs. 40lbs is more than enough to kill anything you want to with, even on my compound bows I set them as low as they will go. Pulling heavy weight youre just making it harder than it needs to be. TIM WELLS KILLS BEARS WITH BLOW DARTS. let that sink in haha

I have a 32 inch draw. My Grizzly is 50 lbs at 28. So with my draw, it’s about 60 lbs. My 1st Grizzly lasted only 5 years before it delaminated. But, I liked carrying it in the woods and shooting it so well, I bought another one. All my other bows are much longer, but there’s just something special about the Grizzly.

My uncle has taken the biggest buck of his life with a 35# Herters recurve. Pass through at 7 yards with a cedar arrow and a zwickey broadhead. All about shot placement. A 40lb bow will kill a deer just as dead as a 60# bow. Just make sure your shooting heavy arrows!

Enough GOOD things can't be said about the Bear Grizzly.
My first trad bow was a 72 model 50# Grizzly (with an ever so slight twist) that I bought in a pawn store for $40. Actually shot it today for about an hour in the backyard! It has taught me everything I know about traditional archery.....and continues to teach me more every week!
Tried many different brand bows and many different weight bows and I trust and love that ole Griz more than anything I've ever used!
    Definitely the "go-to" bow!

I like your bow reviews. I do, prefer the Super Grizzy over this bow, but both are great bows. As a paper puncher... I like the longer bows, 25" riser... 68" AMO. But I also like the lower poundage.. #40 to #35. Hardest thing for me is arrow tuning which results in greater accuracy. There is nothing like... instinctive. For me anyways. Rick Welch style ! Good Video

Hi , I'm Klaus from Germany, I own a Bear Grizzly (65#) for nearly 40 years , the older model doesn't have the to threaded sockets to attache quivers , but there is a single threaded socket in the front right under the handle to attache stabilizers or other items like the Bear bow quiver US Pat.No. 3209740.

I am a rifle hunter.. brand new to archery, but I am wanting to get into it. For now it will be mostly learning the skill while target shooting as a hobby, but I would also like to be able to kill small game with the bow I choose. That being said, it was my plan to get a new 35# SAS Maverick for $200 as a starter bow, upgrade the string, and get going into this new endeavor. I might still do that, but then I found a deal on a 1953 Vintage Bear Glass Powered Grizzly 58" 45# Recurve Bow, Canadian, for $98. It would need a new string and arrow rest, but otherwise in good shape. My question is, would you bother with the vintage Grizzly at 45#? Or would you go ahead with the new Maverick as your starter bow? (I am 5'2", female, athletic and active, and my draw length is 24-25", so that 35# would look more like 30# draw for me, and the 45# bow might look more like a 40# bow for me? .. I don't want to be "over-bowed," as I hear it is a common mistake for people starting out, but also would prefer to clean up and customize a better quality vintage bow for a good deal. Thoughts, anyone? Much appreciated!

Nice review out in the field , really sweet bow !
I started archery shooting when I was 16 years old . My first bow was a Browning Wasp 42# recurve that I target shot & hunted with for many years .
    I’m 59 this year and
I recently bought a Bear Grizzly 45 # just a week ago to get back into the traditional archery . Well it’s been a while , my shoulder and biceps are sore today lol 😂 and reflecting back on my earlier years , I was a much better shot . I’m gonna need a lot of practice to rebuild my consistency. It may not sound like much but that 42# just seemed like a lot easier to draw than this 45#
But I’m extremely happy with this bow , such a fine quality product and it’s very pleasing to the eyes as well as it’s performance ( super smooth and very capable of taking deer) 🦌 🏹 🎯

Jon, Bruce from Santee here. My favorite bow, of 5, is the Grizzley. Im old and 135 lbs, but my 30 pounder does it all for me. The light weight in the hand is really nice. My $800 bow is too heavy and no more accurate. Props to the hat too. And like I said, we have way too much in common.....my jeep Wrangler is a 2005. And we had a summer cabin in Grayling when Bear was still there.

Because they are the same length... same shape of the risers. Identicle ... except for the stripe in the riser ....maybe the wood choice is different too. What do you think?

I really do make a conscious effort to try to support American made products and to my surprise the majority of these wooden bows being sold on Landcaster Archery or Amazon are all bows made in Asia. The only true reputable American brand I know is made by Fred bear and generally a wooden Recurve bow from them starts around $400 price point. Makes me wonder if there’s a genuine craftsmanship and quality difference from the cheap Amazon $200 Asian bows to something like a Fred bear recurve bow ? This is all stuff I need to do research on. What’s your thoughts on the subject is there a difference in quality and craftsmanship ??

    • @Wingman115
      @Wingman115  2 роки тому

@@Wingman115 Yes, I know. But for an example, if the bowyer says, minimum arrow weight is 8 gran per pound, I would have 320 gran for 40 lbs as a minimum arrow weight. If I pull only 37 lbs at my draw length, I would have 296 gran as a minimum not do damage the bow. Most bowyers write in the documentation a minimum gpp and a recommended gpp.
