I Bought a 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor From a Govdeals Auction

  • I have bought several bulk computer lots from Govdeals in the past. Today we are bumping things up an octave with my biggest purchase yet from Govdeals, a 2011 Crown Victoria police interceptor. I was looking for a fun project car to mess around with and the CVPI fit my budget and is a ton of fun to drive ( a big step up from my 2011 Prius, which is a great car, but not exactly super high in the fun factor).
Since the car I bought was 200 miles away, I did not get a chance to inspect it before placing a winning bid. The car did however have it's maintenance records posted on the govdeals page, which was a huge contributing factor to why I bought this car. Today we will find out if this old beat up police car will make it from Raleigh to Virginia Beach fresh off the auction lot.
The plastic plugs I bought to fill the equipment holes: amzn.to/2GWHcia

"It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."

It's a 4.6 liter....you better do your cubic inch calculations a bit better. It has police suspension...meaning slightly lower and stiffer springs and stiffer sway bars. It has four catalytic converters. Tires look pretty standard. Hopefully your response was facetious.

I have a 2009 CVPI (former City of Raleigh) from Govdeals. Going on 2 years. Love it. Don't paint it yet. It is hilarious to drive around. You should have kept the old battery - mine is still going strong even though it was dead when I bought the car. Blue and white electrical tape is great for the holes. Goo Gone for the police shield residue on the doors. 3M Adhesive Remover to clean around the holes. BlueDriver Bluetooth Professional OBDII Scan Tool to check all the cars computers out. Find some used Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires on ebay and get a tire shop to swap out the tires. Lysol Daily Cleaner to clean the back seat. Soak the front seats with Lysol Disinfectant Spray. Check under the front and back seats for ammo and drugs.
You should do an annual cleaning around the wiper motor so it does not die on you.
Keep a look out for coolant leaks around the big black plastic intake. Plastic loves to crack.

Do NOT use silicone! It is rather weak and tears under the flexing and temperature. Plus it's a nightmare to clean off, and nothing will stick to it, so you have to do an intense clean up once you realize your mistake. Use a polyurethane based caulk, instead. Sikaflex works great, and is available at HD stores.

Tired of the Prius and got a real car LOL...JK. The Crown Vics are great cars, as with any vehicle if they're well cared for they'll last a long time. My aunt and uncle just got rid of their 1998 Crown Vic with 580k on it...it still ran and drove great if you could get in and out of it...the door latches were all failing inside and out, and last I recall only one of the back windows would roll down. The 4.6L V8 got decent fuel economy too, around 17mpg city and 25mpg highway, not bad for a boat on wheels LOL.

Hey, while you're at Wal-Mart, stop in their automotive section and pick up one of their $30 center consoles. They fit in between those two front seats perfectly. Oh, and that blue radiator hose is something special. It's silicone and supposed to last the life of the car. They're super pricey to buy and you could even resell it if you wanted. Otherwise, nice buy and all of those issues so far seem pretty straight forward. But really, there's nothing too complex about these Vic's. Just clean, drive and enjoy!

I just bought a 2011 P7B with 107k miles and 6400 IH. It runs and drives fine. The only issue I've had is rear suspension bounce, noise from alternator pulley and the paint is nicked. Not a huge deal. Just imagine if all cars had IH meters built into the odometer. I couldn't have gotten a car for the price I got this one. Plus it's RWD 4.6 V8. It's pretty much a four door Mustang.

I have picked up at least 200 Crown Vics from various Sheriff's departments all over the United States I can only think of three that I've had actually break down with something simple driving them home. 200 miles will be extremely short trip most the time I drive them five to A Thousand Miles then turn them into pilot cars and drive them all of the United States. With that one having the low-mileage it's got you got at least a hundred fifty thousand miles left in that car. Right now I'm in one of the cars that has 235,000 miles on it and just drove it from West Virginia to Illinois to Grand Forks North Dakota down the Garden City Kansas and I'm taking it to Texas right now with a wind blade that I'm escorting.

Get sapre keys made at Lowe's for 3 dollars and buy key fobs off eBay. I can't remember the name of the part that you have to change but it's easy to get the key fobs to work.. Pretty sure it was behind the column cover on the right side. I bought otshu tires at discount tire. They were 380 with a warranty. The tires ride great and last a long time. The Nevada lava pit roads didn't hurt them at all.

Trust me, I've owned 3 newer final generation panthers: 1998, 2000, and 2009 model years.
For what it's worth, I've also owned several of the older generations as well: 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1994.
IMHO, what that guy in your link did to his Chevy's steering wheel looks awful. I'd take shiny over roughed up, porous, and matte any day. Besides, magic erasers "clean" through being abrasive, so he actually removed some of the top layer of that leather. Now that it's roughed up, it is going to be super porous and will collect dirt even faster than before!

I can't tell you how many of the CVPI's I have bought thru the years. We drove many of them from Denver (Colorado HP cars) back to central Texas. NEVER had one of them leave us sitting along side the road. These are very reliable cars. The issues I have experienced in the past are, bad power window motors, alternators, rear axils, and one fuel pump. As to the rear door locks, if you are lucky they have just pulled the child safety lock switch down and put a sheet metal screw in the slot. I've had to buy the rods that operate the locks on some too. That is a horrid color combination you have there, but there is always a paint job to take care of that. You have bought one fine car, and got the maintenance records. That is just about unheard of as of late. I think you'll drive that many trouble free miles.

Dont clean electrical with WD40, there is an 'electronic' contact, turner cleaner works great, doesnt leave greasy mess after. Also, use 'conductive grease' on connectors to prevent corrosion. The sticky goo on the doors, use "Goof off" its a liquid solvent, will easily remove the goo and leave the paint finish looking great.

Keep the paint job, it makes the car unique. Now all you need is one of those hats the state troopers use, some aviators, the bull bar, and everyone will think you are a cop. Also if you want it to sound a bit more beefy, you can cut some silencers for now as sort of a hackjob, or you can do some magnaflow exhausts.
As for the interior, if you want it to look a little bit more upmaket, you can basically swap the interior for one of a Grand Marquis.

Cool till those clutches stop working. Then it’s a PITA and easier to replace the alt.

21:45 Blower motor was bad. I have a 2011 Crown Victoria LX without working climate control so I wonder if it's the same problem.
I wonder what rear end that one came with, it has the blue silicone "severe duty" hoses so it might be a more premium model of CVPI with the 3.55 limited slip rear end instead of a 3.27 open diff.

That car has technically been running for a span of 250+days...your piston rings most likely have improper wear as cops sit in one spot and leave the engine idling for so long all day. Low milage and high hours isn't always a good thing. I do hope you get a lot of miles out of it, use synthetic oil and use the proper coolant, new spark plugs, clean your MAF, cabin and engine filter and maybe do your fuel filter too its easy and worth it. and I would just change the battery if I were you , you'll have better piece of mind and you won't have to worry if it will have enough juice.

Your rear doors might have been gutted, like mine were. I got some rear doors off a junkyard CV and got all the locks and handle rods trasnferred over.

Looking at these maintenance records, they were putting new tires, TPMS sensors/ having TPMS problems, and brakes on this car almost every single year. I guess police vehicles go through a lot of tires. Makes sense about the brakes too actually, considering the kind of driving police do. Interesting. Newish windshield also, nice. Btw axle shaft problems on these... I've done mine on my '03 3 times now. If you ever have to do it again, try to avoid Dorman replacement axle shafts (I only got a year and a half out of them the last time), use Timkin axle bearings (although I think the problem stems from inferior metal used in repro axle shafts, specifically Dorman), and Motorcraft seals would be a good idea. A really annoying problem, a lot of labor/ just my two cents... it will happen again and again and again. Looks like they did this job once already @ 1/09/2018... but only the left side 24:18 so, i'll bet the other side may start leaking soon and then grinding.

are you trying to become the best channel ever ? :D computers and cars...i love it... here in italy i'd be paying like 600 dollars for EVERY SINGLE car's insurance, and other 600 to "change the owner" , even for a free car... that means minimum 1200... it sucks :( , me and my dad are always dreaming about living in US...

I just bought a 2011 CVPI from GovDeals. It came from the Lincoln County NC Sheriff's Dept. It has 154,000 miles. It needed a battery and it runs great. If anyone is looking for a good used CVPI then GovDeals is the place to go.

Only drawback to city cars is the idle hours is very high. You'll need to keep an eye on the transmission. Otherwise these are great cars, i have 3. Check out the Bondurant instructors cars for mod ideas, the Marauder was designed around them.

Nice. I'm glad you got one. I have a 2011 CPVI, all murdered out and I absolutely fuckin love it. you should order the honeycomb style grill for yours, it's a better look in my opinion, but if you're happy with the current one then that's cool. I'd also paint that thing if it was mine too, too many inconsistent colors for me. Again, if your'e happy with it as is then hell yeah. I'm the kinda guy that loves black shit, clothing, cars, everything, etc.
