the rof patched came out AMAZING! as for the steps - you got them clean but i think that due to the color of the bricks they didn't come out as sparkling as normal. that and it could've just been the age of the brickwork too. you did good man, and for it being free? it certainly looks a LOT better. ehck, i'd even do the pavement to show something was done - but you probably also did that. I had to stop watching when you showed off what you did becuase my computer is having audio issues - everything sounds staticy, so i've got to fix that. It's on my end, not yours. the vdieo is perfect bub. and hey, thanks for sharing this stuff with us. it is rather relaxing to watch and it's great on a rainy morning.

I don’t think this was a fail! The patch test on the roof looked very good. As for the old stone wall and steps - you learned what doesn’t work which in the long run is as important as knowing what Does work. And finally the van is Awesome! So pleased to see you reaping the benefits of your hard work and excellent work ethic, Sid. Wishing you & yours a blessed Holiday!

The reason why the bricks didn’t clean very well possibly because they are very early 1900 engineering bricks which are glazed.
So looking forward to next Wednesday when I finish for Christmas.
Using that steam pressure washer I would be always very conscious of the Fire Brigade turning up !! Lol

Yep, those suckas were used in septic tanks and all sorts. I once drilled some at college (they used us to do odd jobs) to install some wall mounted ash trays and the drill bit melted (the hard bit on the end came out), the college tutor told me to put my back into it lol.

I tend to agree. I'm not even from the UK and I can see that is very old stone/brick work. It'll be nearly impossible to get it looking "brand new." I think it looks great as it is, to be honest, that little bit of remaining patina isn't a bad thing. I'm always amazed at all of the decorative stonework y'all have over there. We just don't see that here in the US.
The thing I think floored me most is the stone roofing tiles. Haha, my house would probably collapse under the weight of a roof like that!

I don't know how proficient you are at basic engineering, but you might consider making a cradle with two 6" wheels to mount the end of the pole, then you could just run the pole up and down the roof, in a waterfed pole window cleaning fashion. Would take a lot of strain off the back. Good luck with this new method.

Anyone would look at the difference, think it's great, and move on...but when you're in the business and really know your stuff that's when you see any downfalls. Don t be so hard on yourself. i think is really good that you experiment in the stairs and you can come to conclutiions and know what to do next time, you have to learn somhow i think is good that you try and learn , to be honest i think when a customer will ask you he will appreciate your expertise and you only achieve expert level by making mistakes and see what you can improve so ... for me not a bad day but a very succeful day . Dont be so hard on yourself, it was a learning experience and it looks better after than before that for sure !!! And the roof test with no chemicals... is amazing!!!!

Good work Sid. In terms of the sandstone copings, that black staining is Carbon. Only really strong acids (avoid at all costs) or media blasting will remove it. You could try wire brushing it, but you’ll likely do significant damage, or really uneven appearance when you’ve finished.
