Quick information about Khaled Ibn Al-Walid, a Muslim leader, the only general who came out of the desert and broke the Persian and Roman empires at the same time and was not defeated in any battle throughout his life. He is the greatest general known to mankind.
@Benjamin Morris your justification is very weak since the Romans and the Persians were the two super powers at that time therefore it was very difficult to win against them at the same time and completely annex them
Khalid ibn al-Walid has got to be one of the greatest generals in history - and relatively speaking, no one has ever heard of him. This battle was a true make it or break it moment for the Early Islamic Conquest. Had they failed, the Byzantine (later reinforced by the Persians) may have stomped them out of existence. Fab video as always my friend!
@Flash Point History Oh hey there friend! Somehow I missed your comment. Definitely agree, Khalid certainly doesn't get the credit he deserves nowadays. His forward thinking on the operational level is, in my opinion, on par with Hannibal or Alexander. Reading about his battles in Persia I was blown away not only by how versatile he was tactically, but by how bold and borderline-eccentric he was in his planning. Some of his exploits in Persia closely resemble Hannibal's when it comes to unpredictability. Thanks for the feedback my friend, always great to see you here!! My schedule is terrible, but I hope to jump on the collaboration that we spoke about in mid-December.

Khalid wanted to die as a martyr on the battlefield, and was very disheartened when he realized that he will die on his sickbed. mr_ anheuser Yeah, European civil wars. Fought by multi-generation inbred kings. You ‘culturally refined’ Europeans make me chuckle. When any of you can consistently win battles where the odds are significantly against you, and you lead and army of 24,000-40,000 vs. ~150,000 to a crushing victory while your forces to enemy forces ratio amounts to 1:6, then come up and spit your nonsense. Until then keep your mouth shut. The only difference between our people and yours is that the Arabs conquered their wars organically, they were the severely outnumbered underdogs fighting established empires. Your wars were fought between relatively similar powers in one way or another. Oh, and as for how “refined” your people are, just remember that your ancestors would defecate in buckets and toss them out the window.
Fun fact: Khalid ibn al-Walid was nicknamed The Sword of God by Mohammed. Khalid, is his deathbed told his friends that his only regret is why he didn't die a honorable death on the battlefield, like all other warriors. To that, his friends replied, "When messenger of God named you "Sword of Allah", he predetermined that you would not fall in battle, If you fell on the battlefield, that would only mean that the sword of God could be bested by mortal men, which could never be"
Khalid crossing the Palmyran desert with his army reminds of Hannibal crossing the Alph mountains with his army. Both were impossible feats made only possible by military genius and sheer will. They both employed similar tactics such as double envelopment, ambushes and other unconventional and daring manoeuvres. Khalid and Hannibal shared a lot in common and the fact that they are both titans in military history is fascinating.
@@medmed-wz4vy in fact, it were romans themselves who thought that Khalid had received a sword from above the heavens, thus make him undefeatable. one roman leader asked Khalid himself if that was true. Khalid answered that it was not true.
What amazed me about khaalid isn't his undefeated record on a battlefield as a commander, but his undefeated dueling against Arabs, Sassinids and Romans, his personal fighting skills were unmatched, also he was a frontliner for his army on many battles.
Losing the top general often loses entire wars, and all it takes is one arrow, one stumble, one panicking horse. A maximally competent general would avoid that. In his defense, his troops probably expected him to lead from the front, and might have been less reliable if he hadn't. But also we know from the man that he was actively seeking martyrdom. The Dar was fortunate he kept failing.
@@mattperry9048 you would have to qualify the pros and cons. Leading from the front isn't indicative of "incompetency", it's actually an extreme morale booster for the troops seeing their leader and general going to the front lines when he could easily be hiding. It's essentially like "well if he's doing it, how could we not". Caesar and alexander routinely led from the front too and i wouldn't call them incompetent in the slightest. I understand your point about it being risky, but high risk comes with high rewards. The fact he took part in so many battles And didn't lose or die, shows his unparalleled nature in warfare
@@Y_dz1 Of course. I did qualify, saying his troops' will to stand and fight was probably directly related to his behavior. Like you, I had Alexander in mind when I wrote that; he depended on perfectly timed and placed elite cavalry charges and they (everyone, to a lesser extent) were culturally triggered by kingly heroism. I think it's wrong to compare that to Caesar, though. Caesar was in danger the way Robert E Lee or the Duke of Wellington were in danger: in battle a lot, needed to be close to the action command well, and in battle people get chances to try and kill you. Genghis Khan too, if I'm remembering right. This is soooo different from Alexander, who is on record charging into the fray in smaller skirmishes or being first up a ladder in minor sieges. It was a personality thing, not merely "what he had to do." Khaalid's strongly professed desire to die gloriously in battle makes me think he's more in the Alex category. Anyway, I just think each time he and Alexander did this they were rolling a die. If you're very good, get a 1, get an arrow through the lung or a horse rolls on you. (If you're mediocre, maybe it's flipping a coin.) Khaalid and Alexander rolled dozens of times and got lucky. History is littered the graves of men who tried to be Alexander and rolled... poorly.

Hey Haz, great to see you. Yeah, I opted to wait an extra week to finish part 2. Didn't want to release part 1 without the battle and then force everyone to wait for a week for part 2
At *1:50**,* it's also important to note that whilst the Persians and Romans had been fighting for decades, there war had ended around 5 years before this. Contrastingly, the Rashidun Caliphate itself had just come out of a civil war around half a year before the major war with the Roman Empire began.
Indeed. While the situation in Byzantine and Sassanian empires has seen better days, the Rashidun had its' own internal problems. Roughly 50% of the elite on the peninsula still wasn't Muslim and, whatsmore, they presented a problem for the Rashidun leadership so much so that hostages were sent to Medina to guarantee compliance. Furthermore, Medina couldn't rely on the troops from many of the tribes that fought against the Muslims in the Ridda wars and, aside from not being able to count on that manpower, the Rashidun leadership had to maintain military presence in Arabia to discourage any further dissent.
Absoleet It engulfed virtually the entire Arabian peninsula, exhausted the central Rashidun treasury and now meant that their holdings weren’t as secure as they otherwise would be. Not to mention it only ended months before the Rashidun-Roman war, whereas the roman Persian war finished years beforehand.
@@AdamNoizer Ok. In that case why was Abu Bakr so power hungry that he attacked both empires to the north at the same time? Seemed to me like he knew that he was fighting from a position of strength.
Absoleet Because the idea of a unified Arabian peninsula was a relatively new concept which wouldn’t sit well with either empire. Both empires were making preparations to fight the Rashidun Caliphate eventually so the best thing to do would be to attack early. It’s not like he had much of a choice to delay the assault.

In one encounter in which the Muslims were under heavy attack, Ikrimah penetrated deep into the ranks of the Byzantines. Khalid ibn al-Walid rushed up to him and said, “Don’t, Ikrimah. As for myself and my father, we were among his bitterest enemies. Leave me now to atone for what I have done in the past. I fought the Prophet on many occasions. Shall I now flee from the Byzantines? This shall never be.” Then calling out to the Muslims, he shouted, “Who shall pledge to fight until death?” Four hundred Muslims including al-Harith ibn Hisham and Ayyash ibn Abi Rabiah responded to his call. They plunged into the battle and fought heroically without the leadership of Khalid ibn al-Walid. Their daring attack paved the way for a decisive Muslim victory. Khalid ibn al-Walid has got to be one of the greatest generals in history - and relatively speaking, no one has ever heard of him. WELL SAID
@Flash Point History Oh hey there friend!

That's why He is the Greatest General of all Time...
History is littered the graves of men who tried to be Alexander and rolled... poorly.

mãjdølïňê bêlhâj You have more in common with the Arabs that conquered than that of Hannibal. Hannibal had an army of mercenaries fighting against an emerging super power. The Arabs attacked when the Byzantines and Sassinds were exhausted.
@@alexandrostheodorou8387
You're talking about ancient empires and kingdoms that have been defeated by some Arab tribes that never had a state uniting them and have no knowledge of wars and conflicts... i mean, no matter how weak these empires, they remain great for the Arabs. And don't forget that their armies are made up of hundreds of thousands of soldiers for some tens of thousands of Muslims! The first word here is Islam, which combined them and secondly their strength and intelligence, despite their lack of experience

Imaginery God's!
HE ACTUALLY DIDN'T LOST A SINGLE WAR IN HIS LIFETIME....A SINGLE WAR!!!!
and he won more than 100 duels ... no man was stronger than him
To be fair, neither did I. Kidding aside, much honor and respect. We Americans don't learn of him. It's all about propaganda regarding "Western Civilization" and our own military "glory". Prussian-based schooling system, so I hear.
He did not died or defeated in any war because When he was made The Commander of Muslim army in Battle of Yormouk the Prophet Of Allah Muhammad Sallahoaliwasalam said that he is Sword of Allah.. and if he was defeated in any war then the sword of Allah is defeated too.. @@danial469 they released another video about it. And by the way, can you give me a good example of "skip over huge Muslim victories?" Because usually, the victors rewrite history and exaggerate the number of enemy troops on the other side to make it seem like a greater victory.
@@HistoryMarche The civil war didn't seem anywhere as big and sapping as the long war btwn Byzantine-Sassania.
Your presentations are among the few I enjoy watching.
Thank you sir.
Abu obayeda was a great general who understood his short coming accepted advices and surrender temporary commands in time saving the life of many troops and even saving the future of the Muslim khalfat. But as a muslim and because i know all the parts of this battle i think that you forget to mention the most beautiful part of the 5th day when ikrimah ibn abu jahl (عكرمة ابن ابو جهل) pentrate into the heart of the roman's army with another 400 soldier (Death Battalion)
and i'm gonna write it down 👇:
At the battle of Yarmuk he plunged into the attack as a thirsty person after cold water on a blistering hot day. In one encounter in which the Muslims were under heavy attack, Ikrimah penetrated deep into the ranks of the Byzantines. Khalid ibn al-Walid rushed up to him and said, “Don’t, Ikrimah. Your death will be a severe blow to the Muslims.” “Let us carry on, Khalid,” said Ikrimah, now at the peak of motivation. “You had the privilege of being with the Messenger of God before this.
And they all died at the end of the day ikrimah and the 400 soldier but they penetrate and they made a hole in the heart of Romans army, and that's why vahan send a message to Khalid calling him for the peace.
