Hey everyone, so due to the success of my recently updated and extended video on why the weasleys were so poor, there was always one more video I intended to update and extend after the Weasley one and that was the How Narcissa Malfoy Was Able To Voldemort. When you grow as a youtuber, you take a lot of pride in delivering the best most informative content and unfortunately, my older videos appear to have the right topic but just poor quality, so I really want to take these videos and make them into the videos they should be so thats exactly what I’m going to do in todays video. I’ll be thoroughly and properly analysing all the factors that contributed to Narcissa being able to do the one thing that was believed to be impossible to do..lie to Lord Voldemort and get away with it..So how exactly did she pull it off? Let’s find out.

Voldemort couldn't feel any love. It's explained, as he was conceived under the influence of love potion (Voldemort's mother used it on his father), Voldemort would never be able to feel love.
So Voldemort might have been underrating "love" in general and therefore it has tricked him multiple times. Also, the creation of the horcruxes split his soul, it has to influence your view on love somehow.

I would say she was neutral evil. Because she could adapt easily enough to the status quo but her preference is to have everything the way she wants and she's willing to do whatever it takes, no matter the act, for her own personal gain. Just because she lied to save her son doesnt make her good, because if she had the preference then pure bloods would rule unchallenged. Voldemort was just too evil for her and serving him did not derive her any true benefit, but it doesnt mean that she or her husband had the balls to turn on him either, they merely acted to save to own skin, but if they had the chance they'd be tyrants too.
A true neutral wouldn't care who was in charge as long as they would have no preference. But narcissa clearly had a preference to put her pure blood status first. Which makes her more, neutral evil

I think all Thea’s points are valid and that narcissa is a more complex character then what the story portrayed she easily lied to Voldemort when her son needed it but she always stood firmly by the dark lord
And I think that her loyalty to voldi came solely from her upbringing and had little to do with her personality.

Here's my theory on how Narcissa was able to lie at Voldemort: She is highly trained at occlumency. Proof: not like her sister, Bellatrix, she is capable of love. She was similar to Andromeda though she fears she could be banished like her sister. So she taught herself on how to close her mind from her parents, her sister, Bellatrix, and even to her husband, Lucius. If this is not enough to say that she is capable of lying, then maybe when she struck a deal with Harry, that also made her shielded with the power of sacrifice/love and able to close her mind from Voldemort's legilimency.

I think Narcissa became proficient at Occlumency later in life, in between the beginning of HBP and the end of DH. In HBP, it's Bellatrix who gives Draco Occlumency lessons the summer before his sixth year, so he can be an effective spy and block out Snape's attempts to enter his mind. If Narcissa had been skilled at Occlumency - at least as skilled as Bellatrix - she might have just taught Draco herself. It's possible that Draco didn't tell Narcissa about these lessons, but I doubt he could have kept that kind of secret, since Draco and Narcissa (and likely Bellatrix as well) lived together at Malfoy Manor. Narcissa probably picked up (or at least greatly improved) her skill at Occlumency after Lucius' fall from grace put their family in danger. Having Voldemort actually live in her home meant Narcissa would have worked very, very hard to protect her mind (and protect her loved ones as well).

I really don’t believe she used occlumency personally, I always thought his greatest flaw was his arrogance. He clearly lacked respect for Narcissa, not only because the Malfoys had fallen out of favour but because he hadn’t seen anything from her to indicate she was a particularly talented witch. He would have assumed that she wouldn’t dare lie to him because he believed his followers feared him too much to try and so he doesn’t even bother to check. It’s that arrogance in that moment that is his downfall.

As true as that is, Molly was probably punching above her weight going up against Bellatrix one-on-one. She's a capable witch, and downright terrifying (to her children), but never DEMONSTRATED dueling/defensive magical abilities once over the 7 books (beyond the boggart she failed to destroy in book 5). In the Order of the Phoenix (the group, not the book), she was never shown to be one of the front-line fighters like Lupin, Tonks, Kingsley, or even Bill and Mr. Weasley. She was always in the background, the one who stayed at the Burrow or Grimmauld Place to keep house. Hence seeing her not only fight Voldemort's top lieutenant but kill her is so unexpected.

That’s what I thought. Not necessarily about Bellatrix teaching her, at least not in recent history, but about Narcissa being a good occlumens.
At the end of the day, she lived alongside the Death Eaters for years and never got her dark mark, never actually took part in operations, obviously never put Voldemort first, and yet no one at all ever questioned her loyalty. On a lesser note, her family also lied about their involvement with Voldemort in the First Wizarding War and she grew up with very strict parents. I wouldn’t have thought much of any of this alone, but this scene kinda made it stand out for me.
Not saying she’s necessarily as good as lying to Voldemort for years. Maybe she was quiet and a good enough liar in the muggle way to avoid scrutiny for the most part, and in this case her love for Draco may surely have enhanced her abilities, but chances are she was at least significantly skilled at occlumency.

I always thought Narcissa was very much like Petunia Dursley, not Lily Potter. Both Narcissa and Petunia grew up being overshadowed by an exceptionally gifted sister (Bellatrix and Lily, respectively). Both were affected psychologically after this, as each had one child, and only one child, whom they spoiled and coddled immensely, so Draco and Dudley would never feel second-best or unappreciated. Both were very snobbish, preoccupied with the 'proper' way things should be, and looked down on anyone who didn't belong to their social cachet or didn't fit into a specific mold. Both supported their family, even when it went against their natural inclinations (Narcissa with Bellatrix and Lucius, and Petunia with Harry). Both were fiercely protective of their respective husbands and children and frightened for their safety. And mother's love is a key aspect of their personalities.

I believe the main reason of the lie being sold, along with Narcissa's incredible deception and Voldy's arrogance, is that Harry is the true master of the Elder Wand, when he disarmed Draco, after Draco disarmed Dumbledore. (So Dumbledore was disarmed by Draco, then he was the true master, then Harry disarmed Draco, making him the new master.) Bellatrix states that in order for the Killing Curse to work, the caster must mean it, which of course, Voldemort did mean it, so much that he was knocked off his feet. Along with this, the Cruciatus Curse was also casted. It is stated that the Wand chooses its owner, not the Wizard or Witch. So no matter how powerful of a Witch or Wizard you are, the wand will not work for you if you are not its master or owner. The Elder Wand will not harm its true master, this being Harry. When Voldy casted Avada Kedavra onto Harry, he only ended up destroying a part of himself, the "Horcrux" part. (simplified to being a Horcrux in the movie.) I believe this is the case because well, the Elder Wand will not hurt Harry as he's its true owner. So, the Killing Curse casted by Voldy was redirected from Harry, to the only part of Harry that wasn't Harry. (Voldemort's soul.) Which is why he only ended us killing part of him, Ressurection Stone etc etc. Also badass, Harry the Master of Death, rightful owner of all 3 Deathly Hallows.

Harry didn't actually feel anything when Voldemort used the Cruciatus curse on him because the spell didn't work. This is because the Elder Wand doesn't truly belong to Voldermort, it belongs to Harry so any spells used on him won't work. Sorry to anyone who thought Harry could feign death whilst being tortured.
In the book, when Harry is brought to Hogwarts alive but supposedly dead Voldermort uses the silencing charm on the good side but it doesn't work hence why he has to keep using it. Another example of how the Elder Wand doesn't work for him.

My theory is: Narcissa was trained in Oclumency, probably making her more skilled than Severus. She shielded her mind while asking Harry and lying to Voldemort. She was probably so skilled that Voldemort couldn't penetrate into her mind. This is just a guess lol.

Video idea: How do legilimency and occlumency translate into muggle world? Like dementors and patronus charm manifest as depression and power of gratitude (my guess) accordingly. Maybe discuss how we can master these as well, because while there is a charm, most of the work, at least for occlumency, seems to be psychological.

    Narcissa loving Draco makes sense,
as the prophecy said in the middle
"He shall have power the DARK LORD
KNOWS NOT" And that power is love
which Voldemort is incapable of feeling
    so yeah.

Tom Riddle was never the greatest legitimate. We see that Snape over powered him for years and we know that legitimacy was practiced by the death eater a magical practice not widely known, Tom riddle was just full of himself he thought he was the best, not taking in anyone else’s talent or skills.

@Curtis Ball not really. There were people who were born like that, like that sister of Tina (I forgot the name). But that doesn't mean it can't be learnt. I think we only met her, with this kind of power born, at this point.

I thought the cruciatus curse didn't affect Harry. The book literally says " Harry had been expecting it: knew his body would not be allowed to remain unsullied upon the Forest floor, it must be subjected to humiliation to prove Voldemort’s victory. He was lifted into the air, and it took all his determination to remain limp, yet the pain he expected did not come." Maybe this is due to the Elder wand not wanting to hurt its true owner. Otherwise, great video!

I also think at that point, Voldemort who was well known for knowing when being lied to, he was slightly weakened from what happened but could see no reason why she would lie to him at that point. I mean as mentioned, Voldemort never understood love so he would not have foreseen the motherly love of Narcissa to be so brazen as to lie, let alone her reason to.

There was no pain when the cruciatus curse hit him, voldermorts magic was harmless to harry after the avadar kedvra curse, so he was only feigning death. Read that part again he waited for the pain but nothing came he was only tossed around and decided to remain limp and play dead.

This was, in my opinion, the best, the most descriptive, the most powerful, and the most inspirational description of Narcissa Malfoy's successful lie to Voldemort.
"Now, while I don't exactly believe it was the magical power of love that helped her block out Voldemort's attempt to penetrate her mind, it was the maternal power of love that gave Narcissa the ultimate level of focus and concentration to reconfirm Voldemort's already assumption of Harry's death."
And I say it was inspirational because it was not magic now; it was purely maternal love... I think (and this is just my personal opinion) that J.K. Rowling means to convey that Muggle mothers are also capable of such a thing without magic, that a mother's love is perhaps the most powerful force of all.
