    Since she was perceived by Voldemort to be weak, she wouldn’t need the dark mark. She would supposedly follow her husband when he was called but never be called on to fight. Voldemort was once again betrayed by a mother’s love. Because the loyalty and devotion which Voldemort saw in Narcissa was not actually aimed at him but, rather, at her family and mostly her son. Voldemort couldn’t understand loyalty based on love and not power so Narcissa’s betrayal blind-sided him

      Beautiful comment. Voldemort in deathly hallows says to Harry Potter in their final battle "you mean he (Dumbledore ) was too weak to dare, to weak take what was his what will be mine"
      Dumbledore knew about the power of love and so did Harry Potter but Voldemort had never had love in his life so he might believe that love makes you weak.

      @@lynnerose7891 voldemort underestimates the power of love because he never experienced it in his life. His mother, merope passed away after he was born and his father abandoned him. yet it is harry potter who is able to love even after all his losses that is the downfall of voldemort. he underestimated how strong love can be and decided to chase his own ambitions. "I have gone further than any man has ever dared on the path of immortality." Voldemort in goblet of fire. Voldemort was very clever and ambitious though and didn't really trust things much and in the end he realizes that love isn't weak but it's quite late for him as he was already defeated by harry potter

    Narcissa is by far my favourite character in the HPverse, in part because she is such a complex character. I wish this character had been more intensely explored in the books and elsewhere in canon writings. I agree with your analysis, however - her first loyalty is to her family and she cleverly and brilliantly works behind the scenes to protect them. I believe her the true unsung hero of the entire series. By the bravest action possible, lying directly to Voldemort, no matter what the self-serving purpose, she literally saved the entire wizarding world with one word, ‘dead’. Without that action, the entire outcome of the battle may have changed.

    I think there's also some gender disparities in this too. Besides Bellatrix and Alecto I can't think of any other female death eaters or even female death eaters in the background of the movies. Which I think contrasts with Grindelwald would had more female supporters. And in the crypts at the end the general audience is a mix of everyone. Which I think everyone has spoke on it enough but Grindelwald had aspirations to better wizarding kind as a whole. Whereas Voldemort just wanted to live forever.

      I’m almost certain Voldemort did not care about gender he only cared about blood purity. The two most thing to Voldemort is magical power and blood purity, as long as the witch or wizard was pure blood and very powerful they were let in. Also, I forgot about this but the other biggest thing for him was undying loyalty, basically Bellatrix ticked all this boxes

    • @kellharris2491
      @kellharris2491 Рік тому +1

      It's more that gender roles played into it. The Nazis 'valued' women too. Women had their job of breeding the next superior race. Yes their was a breeding program for creating superior babies. And women were involved in all levels except direct conflict. Being a Soldier was more of a 'man's job' and responsibility. I think this is why women played a less role in the actual fighting.

    💯 I think you’re right. I always thought that while she had the same values as your typical death eater Voldemort likely wouldn’t have seen much value in her being one. All of them brought some sort of skill or connections (like Lucius and his connection to the ministry) or were just aggressive bully types. Bellatrix was fanatically loyal and ruthless and Voldemort would’ve seen value in that.

    Indeed. She put her family on top, cared only for them, not for Voldemort. The only reason, she was an external supporter, was for having her beloved family, which includes Bellatrix. And I believe, deep down in her heart, she also cared for Andromeda, and secretly resented the murder of Andromeda's husband, and her niece being killed. "Being killed", that is another reason why not. She knew that a life as a DE, means that there is a high chance to die. She valued her life, she didn't want to die, certainly not for a man, that meant nothing to her, that wasn't her family. She was brain washed, it's not her fault. She was on the evil side, out of circumstances, but not truly pure evil. She would never murder Muggles or MB, it's not her, not who she is. However, try to hurt any family member of her, whom she loves, you don't know what you are up against. Don't mess with mama bear, exactly what she was.

    I also think that Lucious wouldn't risk his son remaining alone in the world with no family and no help. Like for example if Voldemort lost and he was to be emprisoned for his crimes, narcissa could still get away free and stay with her son. Or in the case that Narcissa was killed from Voldemort's side for whatever reason he could remain with this son or help him. Kind of like how parents always fly on different airplanes in case one crushes. And I think they would have both thought of this and agreeed on it. Not to mention that if she was to be fighting on the first line that would increase the risk of her dying thus leaving Draco alone.

    I still think that Adromeda is the one that "got it right", as you say. Yes, she (Narcissa) DID marry the "right" man, according to her family's values, & yes, she DID love him, BUT don't forget Lucius was himself a bully. He bullied his own son, put his son down on multiple occasions, and bullied others (not just muggleborns) around him, used his money & power to get what he wants without regards for others around him just because HE wanted to & so HE could get ahead in life & he taught his son to be the same way, too. I personally don't think that Darco had a very happy childhood. Yes, he was VERY spoiled by his mother, but I think Lucius was a very hard father & a hard man to please, too. Adromeda, on the other hand, married whom she loved, despite what family believed, married a VERY good man, raised a kind, lovingly daughter whom also then married a kind, lovingly man, had a grandson whom she got to raise (with Harry's help, I'm guessing) & to love. Yes, her husband & daughter dies way too early in life & it was, I'm sure, devastating for her, BUT I think she got fulfilling & good life, all in all. So, I'm sorry, but I don't think Narcissa "got it right"; I think it was Adromeda who did! 😊

    I think Lucius was more of a political animal. He didn't necessarily understand early on that Voldemort's supposed goal of pure bloods in charge was a very distant second to him being alive and powerful.
    Voldemort didn't seem to much care about women as there are only a few female death eaters. Narcissa has no interest in running around getting her hands dirty. She's already got most of what she wants. She's at the top of the social ladder, wealthy, and with a son to dote on. Voldemort offers Bellatix an outlet for her power and her sadism, and political power for Lucius. Voldemort just doesn't have enough to offer Narcissa for the risks that it would open her to.

    I personally think it was just that, while she liked the ideas he presented of purity and superiority... i think, one things turned down a far bloodier path. She decided to keep her true thoughts to herself.
    I think she was relieved when voldemort was defeated the first time. She, like alot of the ordinary people, thought he was gone for good and she wouldnt have to worry about her family after that...
    She could look down on one sister for not keeping the race pure while also silently judging the other for thinking that the level of extreme cruelty bellatrix committed to was over the line.
    I think she was okay with it until the longbottoms were driven to insanity. They were a pureblood family after all. More pureblood than the potters. And it occurred to her that her sister was willing to do anything, and voldemort would kill anyone, even those he was trying to place on top thus dwindling the numbers of their kind further... which is counter productive.
    Youre definitely right in that she played her part well, though.
    She and her sisters have love and devotion in spades. But its all placed in different lots. Bella went all in for the power hungry genocidal maniac, Andromeda went all in for a muggle-born and stood by her decision, Narcissa went all in for her husband and her child.

    To me it's quite clear. Mrs. Malfoy did indeed apply to be a Death Eater. However, Her Royal Highness Princess Michael of Kent (who we all know is the Head Bitch in Charge of Continental Death Eaters) put the kibosh on her application.

    Why was Lucius fine with Draco getting the dark mark on his arm, but not his wife?

  • @gordonhotchkiss6426
    @gordonhotchkiss6426 2 роки тому

    Actually the Black Family weren't as loyal to Voldermort as people think when you think about it. Three actually turned against Voldermort before Narcissa and Draco did. Also Draco helped Harry in the final battle. He gave Harry his wand. But their were also 3 other members of the Black family who turned against Voldermort apart from the Malfroys. You had Sirius whose family turned their back on him because of his loyalty to his friends. Nymphadora Tonks who was Sirius cousin and Bellatrix's niece. She married Lupin and was on Harry's side in the final battle right up to her death. Most people forget about this one. But in the final book it was revealed Regulus Sirius's brother turned against Voldermort after he left his house elf Kreacher to die. Regulus even tried to destroy one of Voldermort's Horcruxes.

    I always thought that she could claim her duty to the pureblood cause was in rearing pureblood children. She wasn't a soldier, so her value to Voldemort was as a broodmare. He wouldn't harm her, but also wouldn't respect her.

    Narciss like Draco deep down were never pure blood supermacists!! Hence why she never got the dark mark and showed 💯 compete devotion to Voldemort's cause!!

  • @Slytherinarmy

    I think the reason why Narcissa never got the dark mark is because for her, her family was her first priority. She didn't want anything especially the responsibility of being a Death eater to get in the way of her caring for and protecting her family. Being a death eater and having all of that pressure put her on and the things she would have to do as an DE, would distract her from putting her family first. Also, even though she had the same pro pureblood values as Lucius and Bellatrix do (even though I don't think Narcissa's pro pureblood beliefs are as extreme as Bellatrix's were), I think she wouldn't want to go as far as to become a death eater. She knew being a death eater overall was something Lucius was proud of being and she wanted to support him in whatever he wanted to do. However, we all know Narcissa didn't want to become a DE because she knew deep down Draco wasn't as evil as the death eaters are and that he wouldn't want to do the things they did/he wouldn't be able to handle those tasks. Overall, being an official DE with the dark mark just wasn't something she was interested of being/doing.

    She was too posh and fancy to be one, not the type to do any dirty work, the Death Eaters were a bunch of murderers after all, and despite their pure blood status, most of them were just ruthless thugs, and I don’t think that’s the kind of company Lucius would like his beautiful and sophisticated wife to be in. Besides, I don’t believe they actually considered her to be a very talented (and useful) witch. I didn’t get the impression she was ever considered for any prominent role in the new world ruled by Voldemort, she was essentially a wizarding equivalent of a 50’s housewife, and stating that she didn’t become a Death Eater after Voldemort’s return disappointed by his treatment of her family has zero sense: If Voldemort wanted her to become a DE, do you really think she’d be given a choice, or that she would have any say in that? Of course not, he was “my way or the highway” type of dude, only in this case highway means Avada Kedavra. He didn’t even ask her, at that point they had the whole Wizarding World at their feet, they were wreaking havoc with virtually no resistance, he didn’t need this dumb, privileged socialite wife.
    Speaking of Malfoys though, I’d like to point out another thing, and that is JKR’s forced attempt to redeem them with very little to back it up. She basically drew a parallel between Lili sacrificing her life to save Harry, and Narcissa lying to Voldemort, which is ridiculous. How is that enough to exonerate the Malfoys? It proves Narcissa loves her son, so what? I’m pretty sure Mussolini loved his kids too, does that make him better in any way? She was brave, I’ll give her that, but she was only doing what was in her (and her family’s) best interest, it’s not like she gave up her bad old ways, she would’ve killed Harry herself if that would help her cause at the time. Besides, her actions didn’t really change much in grand scheme of things but people make it seem like it made a world of difference. No, she just bought them some more time to destroy the last Horcrux, but all of JKR’s plot twists that made Harry basically invulnerable to Voldemort were still in place: He was the true master of the Elder Wand, his blood carrying Lili’s protection was running through Voldemort’s body, and he was willing to sacrifice himself and die to save others. So Voldemort pretty much couldn’t hurts him, which really had nothing to do with Narcissa and what she did or didn’t do. Also, it seems like the Malfoys didn’t fight at the first part of the Battle of Hogwarts, which is just another attempt to help them get off the hook after the war because there’s no reason for them not to fight, everyone except for Voldemort was there, even Bellatrix who was his second in command, so why didn’t they go and what did they do? Watch Netflix in the Forest with Voldemort? No, I guess that would be too Muggle thing to pull.They were also dying to get back on Voldemort’s good side, and is there a better way to do it than taking out a few mud bloods or blood traitors in the battle? So that’s another nonsense. All in all, JKR let the Malfoys bail out way too easy with almost nothing to justify it, Draco and Narcissa should’ve at least been charged as accomplices, and Lucius should’ve been sent to Azkaban hands down. He weaseled out after the First War, but now he was openly a Death Eater the whole time. Sure, he didn’t do much after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, but he didn’t really have much say in that, Voldemort dismissed him due to his stupidity, incompetence and failure. In a nutshell, that’s what was eating Malfoys the most, the fact they fell from Voldemort’s grace; they didn’t get disillusioned with his bloody ways and beliefs, they were just frustrated by suddenly being treated as no more than doormats after being way up there their whole lives. They never renounced that fascist and murderous blood purity philosophy, they had no issues with so called mud bloods and blood traitors being killed and persecuted (by someone else less noble preferably), but all they ever did was covering their own asses. Now, I will argue that the only reason Narcissa is viewed so favorably is because of wonderful Helen McCrory - may she rest in peace. At least that’s the case with me as I just love this amazing and beautiful actress. She gave life to the movie Narcissa in such a beautiful manner, she probably made her the way she should’ve been like in the books from the get go. My first reaction to what she did in the movie was something along the lines of: You go, girl! - while I was more like: Okay, and? You’re still a (not my daughter, you) bi**h and could might as well die when I was reading the DH. Helen made Narcissa likable and relatable for better or worse, because the book version, which is a top tier of canon, is anything but, despite what she did. In essence, Malfoys aren’t even antiheroes (aside from maybe Draco), they are flat out cowards and bad people who never repented for what they did, and would probably consider doing it again given half a chance.
