I lived in my truck for a year way back when I was about 30. My setup was very similar to yours except I had a regular cab Toyota 4X4 with a topper. Best year of my life! (I'm 64 now)
@jason9022 You mean to ask why didn't I continue living in my truck and traveling around? When I was doing this I had very few worldly things; I wasn't married, didn't own a house and in fact I could pack everything I owned in my truck in about an hour. I was a software developer and did contract work all around the country, usually 3 months to 2 years. I moved all over the USA for work. I took a year off to travel because I was thinking about being more settled, maybe start a business (which I did), so I wanted to travel while I had the freedom from obligations. I traveled in 47 states, Canada and Mexico in that year. I hit most of the National Parks, lots of State parks and National Forests, historical and tourist areas, Key West. FL. to Quebec City Canada to Tijuana, Mexico to Vancouver Canada, you name it, I was probably there! My girlfriend and I lived off of about $1,000 a month average. We stayed a lot of places for free. Being a perpetual tourist does get old. You might have asperations and ambition that you want to pursue. I was at a point in my life where I had enough of a rambling life, wanted some roots and wanted to develop myself in ways that required a more traditional life style. After the trip I moved to Atlanta for a job. I got married a few years later, started a software consulting business, had a son, got divorced, lost my ass on that, build it back up again. Now I'm 65 and looking at retirement soon. Still in Atlanta. Back when I was traveling around at 30 I would meet retired people who were the age I am now. They all said the same thing; "You're smart to do this while you're young because you have the energy and ability to do it.", "When you are older you can't hike all day and do a lot of physical stuff you are doing.", "You need to be close to doctors and pharmacies." Even though I'm 65, I can still do pretty much all of that stuff I did at 30. I'm now back in my old mode; planning on some extended travel in a similar manner as I did about 30 years ago! National Parks, Camping in the forest, tourist areas, whatever suits me. I'm going to have at least one last hurrah and relive the best time of my life while I still can!
