This clip is incredible!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I love Bobby's new recordings as much as his classics from the 60s.

Bobby sounds great! This song is on his album Down The Line, which is a Buddy Holly tribute
    album; it's an outstanding album.

He still does very well. The years have been good to him, as he is still quite the handsome guy, and maintains his rich clear voice. And yes, he still has that bright wonderful smile that has captured everyone through the years.

When I was in school, I was told that if I ever covered a song I had to make sure to knock it out of the park. Bobby Vee knocked this one out of the park!

Recorded in the late '90s in St. Paul, MN during the taping of a local PBS Minnesota current affairs program called "Almanac" . Interesting note: Texas singer songwriter Nanci Griffith so fell in love with Bobby's reinterpretation of this Buddy Holly tune, that she asked to borrow his string charts for the song for a similar take she cut at Abbey Road with the London Symphony Orchestra for her beautiful "Dust Bowl Symphony" album. Said that hearing Bobby's version "brought tears to her eyes.

Bobby has aged well. I didn't know he was a guitar player! Nice version of this song.

Absolutely superb. In my view, the best track from the 'Down The Line' album. An album which deserved a lot more recognition than it got, delivering a host of Holly songs in a way Bobby imagned Buddy may well have sounded now, had he lived. More than 50 years since his debut in the music business Bobby still delivers a great performace live, playing all his own its plus, always, a selection of Holly music.
Unbelievably I have just found this clip. Any idea what it is from?

    Hey Jim,
Thanks for posting this video. I have had an appreciation for Bobby Vee since shortly after 3 February 1959 when he and the Shadows replaced Buddy Holly on the tour that night. I have the Down The Line album from which this version of Tell Me How comes, and it is a very good work in my opinion. Holly's original version had always been my favorite - until I heard this version by Vee which tops any other I have heard. The last track on the album is absolutely fantastic where he interleaves the two Holly singles, Words of Love and Listen to Me. You have to hear it to believe it. If I am not mistaken, I believe Vee and his sons produced this album in their own studio demonstrating not only musical skills but also their knowledge of producing high quality audio work.
Bobby Vee, along with his family, has made a lifelong career in the music business, and he has done some stellar work. Buddy Holly's brief five year career will always be tops with me in my memories, but Bobby Vee's lifetime career is second to none. Bobby Vee and I have had good and long lives. I am fortunate to have lived mine in that same time when I have been able to appreciate Bobby Vee.
    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

The next time PBS etc..has some Americana show with Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson etc....INVITE freaking Bobby Vee -- because he fits. HE FITS! He's as good as they are & he's the missing link between Buddy Holly & Dylan. Especially performing as he does here with this song or "I Wish You Were Mine Again." What a great, great under-rated singer this man is. His LP "Robert Thomas Velline" was the hint these songwriters should have noticed.

I saw Bobby a few times live in the uk towards the end of his life. Fabulous performer and really connected with the fans. When he introduced the band including his three sons and came to his drummer son he said "and of any parent of a son who plays the drums.......isn't it nice when they leave home" So glad I got to see him before he left us.
