I’ve been watching you videos for a while. You are yourself and your personality comes through. You show this is me take it or leave it.. that’s what I like about you nothing fake... keep up the good work and keep making videos.

Ahhhh stippling! I love it so~ I made an incredible piece of art that was Link from the Zelda series and it was all shaded with stippling! No lines, no colouring, just DOTS! I have it framed cuz it came out so well! Anyways, thank you for this tutorial, it’s gonna come in REEEALLL handy!!
I make glass art, but watching and learning from other mediums always helps spark inspiration and challenges me to incorporate other techniques into my work. This isn’t “how to draw” or “how to paint”, it’s “How to Art”! And I don’t think there could be a more perfect title :) Thanks Mary!!
I am glad you seemed to be doing much better in this video. I wish you the best Mary and am looking forward to that live stream tomorrow and this new upcoming series of videos!
Your Ink Tutorial helped me kick off my professional cartography buisness, thank you so much! Your videos are technique rich and you have great comic timing, PLEASE keep creating :)
i do this with pen and india ink ......good job on video. edit i like the water part it is ART!!!! this is what i call important art you can do it anywhere stuck someplace, waiting for transpo, out in the boonie on vaca,...anyplace all you need is to see what your doing!
So needed this when I was looking for this kind of information a couple years ago! Lol this is a real treat. Edit: actually these techniques can be done in pencil, mechanical pencil, and colored pencils too now that I've thought about it! Don't know why I thought there were some techniques exclusive to specific tool types...
but with pencil you can smudge, feather and blend in a more realistic way that is limited when using pens, of which people can adapted to this with these styles
@@coltrane1016 True, Shading with pencil does run the risk of smudge, which is why i make attempts to carefully erase as i go, use blending stumps where needed, tho i don't really have a whole lot of experience with the feather method. it doesn't hurt to play around and experiment with different methods or tools, and there is always more than one way to do it.
When is scribble challenge going to be back? I used to play something similar with my family. We all got the same scribble and the one who did the most imaginative, crazy and better drawing won. (idea for a collab? maybe? its free to dream)
Oooo! Good request! It's going on the list! Quick Tips: 1. know/choose the direction the light is coming from. 2. Thicker lines on the shadow side will give the effect of...shadow. 3. Use a piece of yarn, string or a shoelace as a reference.
Every month for a year... could it be... zodiac themed? Moon themed? Because different full moons in different months have different names... my guess is zodiac tho. Aries starts soon and that is like the start of the zodiac calendar I think? Who the heck knows.
You're first video in how to ink is what helped me in a very difficult time. Drawing was an escape from real life and even that was proving to be difficult because i just couldn't shade.... and then Mary came to the rescue with that simple and effective video. I learned the basics from you and i still use them today! Thank you for these videos.
One thing you can do with ballpoint pen in shading is you can apply various amounts of pressure to the ball creating values in the ink. Though the lines are often thinner and do break apart, the lighter gradient in the ink from the ballpoint helps with shading. After all, the ball point is nothing more than a ball on a spring.
I prefer to use a normal ballpoint, like a bic or papermate, instead of a roller ball or gel pen. Rollers and Gels are too juicy. Regular ballpoints allow more versatility.
You have wonderful tutorials. I offer one suggestion that would help educators share your content. Please double-check the closed captioning to ensure accuracy. Generally speaking your CC is not too bad as you speak very clearly. But every once in awhile the auto translate feature really messes up a word. Thanks for sharing your art expertise and energy. It's definitely some of the better how-to-art content on UA-cam.
Can I use different size stipple dots on one drawing or do they have to be all the same size stipples? And can the stipples vary in color or do I need to use the same color on all my stipples.?I know a lot of times I carry stipples around with me. Ya never know when you will need a stipple of two.

I thought you meant my first cat, Zeus, and I got ecstatic because he passed away a few years ago then I realised you don't know who I am.
