He rocked the stage back than and still rocks the stage now, looked hot back than looks hot still. The are all so much younger of course as it is in the past lol. This is music from the heart all natural no autotune. RIP Eddy. 🤘🤘
GREAT ......great singer, great guy, great fun and a great guitarist. I still have a recording of Sammy playing my 1955 Les Paul GoldTop at Hammersmith Odeon London, around 1982-3...... Rock on Sammy👍🇬🇧
Sammy's vocals here are the ones recorded that night in Tokyo. If you listen to other versions of this same performance or watch the videos of it, it's clear Sammy's vocals have been re-recorded. They sound much cleaner and pitch-perfect. He sounds good here but a little off and they were making a live recording to be released.
I remember that tour well. I saw you in Birmingham and had two busted ear drums. My girlfriend at the time held her hands on my ears the entire concert. You guys were loud. Great album! My favorite song was The Inside! Very cool songs.
Amazing video. These guys were still killing it in 1989. Hit after hit. Michael Anthony’s back up vocals give VH songs what every other song is missing
Sammy you always make everything better!!! For as long as I can remember. You have been #1 Rockstar!! ❤ And always will be. From a Covina girl back in the day!!!💋❤️💜🥂✌️😎
Love the footage from this show. 51/50 from this show is one of my favorites I’ve seen so far. Everyone was spot on in this show, and all 4 look like they’re loving every second of being there. Prime time right here. Feels like yesterday
As a band at that time, they playing was so tight yet flowed. I am lucky that I got to see all forms of the group. Will always love listening to the music. 👍😎👍
Not to be nitpicky but he'd probably be a Rhythm guitarist like Hetfield. He mostly just plays Rhythm in this song and EVHs keyboard takes over lead roles. There is that cool lick Sammy does during the keyboard solo but other than that his guitar playing is pretty run of the mill.
@@Grymgar There many videos of Sammy trading licks with EVH while in the band and others of him shredding as a solo artist. He prefers to concentrate on singing and always employs an excellent lead guitarist. I can’t sing or play guitar but I tried. It’s difficult to sing and play at the same time. That’s why most guitarist regardless of skill level play rhythm. It’s easier. Even those who play lead do so during the instrumental breaks: Lonesome Dave Prevert, Mark Farner, George Benson, B.B. King.
Sammy, incredible vibes back then. 5150 had so many worthy songs!! Funny enough one of my favorites from that whole Era of you guys being together "the Inside". Was like getting to sit in while you guys learned to play and write together. The jokes the comraderie cemented you four , in my heart, and for the world. As another commenter suggested, it was meant to be. If we should ever cross paths, you are welcome to as many hugs as you might like. Be blessed, and pls give Mikey a hug from me when you see him next.
The quality of this is so good you feel like you’re there. I wasn’t at this show but caught the tour. Thanks VH. Still loving the music all these years later.
This was so great! I saw this tour in Saint Paul front row right in front of Mikey. I was 16. I camped out overnight to get the tickets. I’ve seen Probably close to 1000 concerts since then including many more Van Halen and Sammy shows. This one was definitely special and in my top five. Thanks for this great footage Sammy!
An amazing Album loved this song must of been a whirlwind dream getting the call to play with Van Halen good times good memories I could only imagine what it would of been like singing and playing guitar with some of the most talented musicians of the day, I feel for your lose loosing a fellow friend and musician Eddie Van Halen we'll all meet again in the next life keep rocking sammy while you still can and love to rock 🤘 you're a national treasure rock on dude
Okay I hope someone sees this. This is like THE Best recording of this...just because of this simple fact. In the professional wrestling business they have a term called a 'pop'. When the crowd all at once cheers for something usually an entrance when they hear the theme song fire up IE the Road Warriors. Now just think how big the tokyo dome is and for that two second mark from like 21 seconds to 23 every single person in that stadium is screaming at once so loud its overpowering every joule the band is pumping out. That's awesome. That's like the mantis shrimp punch of frequency...love it. Also considering around then sitting there politely smiling being quite was a super big show of respect that you were enjoying what you were watching....the boys broke them lol.
WOW, I remember going to get the VINYL of '5150', I listened to it so much, practiced my vocals with it playing so I could increase my range. It's sad that Eddie's gone, especially now with all the talk about a tribute to Eddie/ Van Halen tour. No matter what Alex and Dave feel, such a tribute wouldn't be complete without you Sammy, and Mike. Without both of you as part of the tour, what would be the point in going to watch it. All it would be would a be a collection of old disgruntled musicians who no longer have the fame they once had, and blame everything on everyone else taking no responsibility for any of what caused the breakup. Even though Gary Cherone stepped in after you Sammy, the fire was gone. I truly think that for Alex to be talking with anyone about such a reunion tribute show without talking with the rest of what Van Halen was, then all it is...is a cash grab for Alex and the others joining in. I'm surprised Joe would not be behind it only if both Mike and yourself were also part of the show.
AWESOME!! Man what a show! I saw them on this tour, and they were incredible. With Sammy out front, they were just so musical, and brilliant in just about every respect. Greatest American rock band of all time - by a mile. And one of the best in the World ever. And my #1 personal favorite! Edward, thank you for all the gifts you left us with. Ed and Sam were just pure magic together. God put them on this Earth to rock the World! And they did.
Thanks Sammy For Posting This Video Wish Sure Do Miss That Sound An I Can Say That I Seen You An Van Halen On The Balance Tour Loved It Thanks Again An I Bet Your Missing Eddie As Much As We Are
Back in the day Sammy whether he was with Montrose or on his own was one of my favorites, back in the day VH even with Dave was one of my favorites. But when Sammy joined VH, it was the absolute best of both worlds for me. I saw the age with Dave twice great show Dave just annoyed me though. So VH with Sammy probably eight times, and that’s probably a low number. Love them all. Love this version of the H the best. Great time of my life great time to be alive great music.
Whoa, here it comes That funny feeling again Winding me up inside Every time we touch Hey, I don't know Oh, tell me where to begin 'Cause I never, ever, felt so much Hey! And I can't recall Any love at all Oh, baby, this blows 'em all away It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? Straight from my heart Oh, tell me why can't this be love? I tell myself Hey, only fools rush in Only time will tell if we stand the test of time All I know You've got to run to win And I'll be damned if I'll get Hung up on the line, hey No, I can't recall Anything at all Ah, baby, this blows 'em all away Woo! It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? You want it straight from the heart, hey Tell me why can't this be love? Woo! It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? Straight from the heart, oh Tell me why can't this be love? Baby, why can't this be love? Got to know why can't this be love? I wanna know why can't this be love? Traduire en français
With Sammy at the helm it was the greatest version of VH. Better vocals, great guitar player and the song writing was fantastic. Saw them in Largo, Maryland. Blew me away.
This is awesome. I think Eddie is a musical genius. Revolutionized the guitar. And a great keyboard player too. Very inspiring. The stuff with Sammy was uplifting. And the stuff with Dave was more edgy. Both great. Like two different bands for one. I like the song " Top Jimmy". I think it's a tribute to Hendrix. Very cool. Probably the two most ground breaking and important guitarist in modern rock history. In my opinion. But then there are so many others: Clapton, Page, Ace, Slash, Cobain, Jerry Cantrell, Curt Kirk Wood, Pearl jam, Daniel Johns. on and on But I think Hendrix and Eddie are the two.
What a great performance of. Such a great song by my guys much respect to this great band 👌💯👍
Thank you for keeping it going Sammy!🎸🤟🤘
Sammy killing it on the guitar and vocals. Talent. And then, of course, the legend himself. RIP king.
And Mike Anthony on the backup vocals. Iconic
This song hooked me on 5150, still love it!
I used to hang out with these guys in the 80’s. They were all so nice and down to earth ! Glad Sammy and Mike are still around ! RIP Eddie !!!

Thank you for sharing Sammy . Keep them coming please
Theme of my young man days. Well done... Rock on everyone.....
Seeing Van Halen with all three lead singers in concert made my day !!!
keep these 1989 tour videos coming sam!
Sammy could easily have been the lead guitarist in a number of hugely successful bands.
More skilled that most think, but a world class vocalist, who got involved with a universe class guitarist.
Don’t get it twisted - he’s no EVH ❤️ but yea - he can play
Not to be nitpicky but he'd probably be a Rhythm guitarist like Hetfield. He mostly just plays Rhythm in this song and EVHs keyboard takes over lead roles. There is that cool lick Sammy does during the keyboard solo but other than that his guitar playing is pretty run of the mill.

My favorite SH/VH song. Great stuff.

Such an awesome song, thanks for posting it Sammy! Rock on Red Rocker! \m/\m/
Great band. Eddie was the man
This shows why Sammy was a true star before joining Van Halen and EVH knew he could (still can) play.
Whatta way close out a decade!
Best years and songs were with Eddie.
Love how Ed keeps the axe on just in case 🤣🤣🤣. He’s the fucking best….
SAMMY IS THE BEST I FEEL A HIGHER ☝🏻POWER BROUGHT THESE GUY'S TOGETHER BECAUSE IT COULD BE NOTHING ELSE.
Hell yeah!

Great performance, my fav live version, longer hair also suits Sammy better
Your hair was at its best then. You still have it, brow it back!!!
Whoa, here it comes
That funny feeling again
Winding me up inside
Every time we touch
Hey, I don't know
Oh, tell me where to begin
'Cause I never, ever, felt so much
Hey!
And I can't recall
Any love at all
Oh, baby, this blows 'em all away
It's got what it takes
So, tell me why can't this be love?
Straight from my heart
Oh, tell me why can't this be love?
I tell myself
Hey, only fools rush in
Only time will tell if we stand the test of time
All I know
You've got to run to win
And I'll be damned if I'll get
Hung up on the line, hey
No, I can't recall
Anything at all
Ah, baby, this blows 'em all away
Woo!
It's got what it takes
So, tell me why can't this be love?
You want it straight from the heart, hey
Tell me why can't this be love?
Woo! It's got what it takes
So, tell me why can't this be love?
Straight from the heart, oh
Tell me why can't this be love?
Baby, why can't this be love?
Got to know why can't this be love?
I wanna know why can't this be love?
