Eddie Van Halen's death has caused me more sadness than I ever expected. It's because a good man and a once in a lifetime legend passed away. It's the end of an era.
I'm crushed too.
So True...my feelings exactly.
100 friggin' percent Dude.....This one was a crusher!
Well said. Exactly on point. The world just changed.Eddie lives on.
I AGREE!!! This was really heartbreaking.
For the youngsters listening / watching this is what you call REAL. No AI, no 'beats', No auto tune, no backing tracks, just real musicians doing what they do best. PERFORMING on LIVE tv as if they were at band practice. Simply amazing.
Ok, boomer.
@@landajimmy OK, Dick wad, or are you still trying to figure out what gender you are?
They'll never understand
@@landajimmy yes it is a kinda boomer statement but is true the amount of pure genius and talent have diminished
It’s true, the industry can make anyone they want a rock star with modern technology. Why wouldn’t they want that kind of power?
RIP Eddie. Loved his grin during the panio intro
Absolutely...
He was so beautiful ..
miss you so much Eddie!!😥💔❤🖤😘🌹
Such a gifted musician and gentle soul.
His grin is warmheating....beeing in love with it. A hetero human being.
That grin was special. Like he was.
I'm 59 and cried like a baby when Eddie passed.
I still do when I see these old live moments.
The soundtrack of my life. Thanks, Eddie
I didn’t cry but it got me in the feels more than ANY celebrity’s death. I’ll probably feel the same when the other three here go. Not Dave tho, I respect his contribution but he fucked everything else up later.
I cried like a baby the first time I heard Love Walks In and knew these were my guys, Van Halen the Balladeers of Rock, and I didn't care what anyone thought about it. Diamond Dave's thing just isn't my style. I cried again when Eddie died, and that very day, Sammy posted a performance of he and Eddie performing Love Walks in at a benefit, just piano and voice. They captured a rare magic there and it's a shame so many people, including Eddie and Sammy at times, have taken that special thing for granted. Eddie Van Halen isn't my favorite guitarist of all time, but he's my favorite keyboard player and will always hold that spot in my heart.
I'm 52 and I share your feelings. I'm so glad Eddie and Van Halen were part of our lives. Cheers.
I have cried one single time in my life from the passing of a non family member. It was for EVH. I am 55, and started playing guitar in 1982, with Van Halen posters plastered on my wall. The King.
Its moving to hear this. What an unbelievable connection and influence this guitarist had.
That impish smile of Eddie's just makes you smile with him. Rest In Peace Maestro Van Halen
Yes, miss Eddie's smile. R.I.P. LOVE VanHalen and David Lettermen
he was a hack and nothing without David Lee Roth. You would be like Eddie who??
Every time. Like he's letting you in on some secret.
He will only rest in peace if he truly "knew" Jesus....
@@MusicGoodies-That's the sad truth. And I'd add that it must be the real Jesus of the pure, perfect King James Bible.
Michael Anthony*s vocals helped make VAN HALEN..Even Eddie has said so!
Who saw 2020 coming. RIP
🙏
Too bad they cheated he outta his royalties:-(
Thank God Jason dropped the bomb about the tribute VH tour... Now they have to go with Michael Anthony. Each of those four guys made VH
Thank you Captain Obvious .
Duh!
One of Eddie’s better solos. He’s popular for his tricks and sounds, but he was an elite composer and musician.
Yeah super tasteful and well executed solo, great performance!!
Damn, So very Fortunate to see all his attributes playing Playing Piano & Guitar
The first instrument he learned was the piano....same with Alex.
Elite..
Well put. This song brings tears to my eyes, but in a good way.
@@fastfreddy6029 you nailed it. The Hagar version was much more mature .... seasoned musical group
R.I.P. EVH, thank you for being here, love you man. Rest well.
Awesome. I don't know why people hate Sammy so much. What a powerful voice
I prefer Sammy over DLR all the way, DLR probably has a better vocal range, but to me, the tone is not that easy on the ears as Sammy's and even when I'm a musician myself, a great technique and range is, well... not enough
DLR was probably more flamboyant, but i always preferred Sammy's vocals. The haters don't know music lol
gurujmr- Yeah, 'Powerful' but ugly, grating & unmusical.
@@quontumleeep9430 clean your ears, dude. Sammy still has quite some pipes nowadays!
I honestly can say that is not that i dislike DLR, is his never had high notes to sing hard rock, if you'll go back in time Led Zepellin, Ac Dc, Aerosmith... high tunes is requiered on hard rock for me, hell i don't play in a band that the vocalist can reach at least C5
I love Eddie VanHalen and that smile of his.
RIP Eddie You always were a legend! What a sad day.
Yeah Ed thanks for all the great music through the years RIP
I’m really gonna miss him...I’m running out of heroes 😢

Eddie is a genius...... Our greatest innovator....
Les Paul and Eddie...yup.
Wow I just got emotional watching. Loved this era of Van Halen. RIP Eddie.

Roth was and remains a buffoon. This was the best VH lineup, IMO.
@@sschario60 well I'd say about 99% of VH fans disagree with you --- because we all love the Roth Era more
Rest In Peace Eddie! This was my parents wedding song. Was lucky enough to see them in 2012 with Roth, would of loved to see them with Sammy.
Thanks for the many years of killer riffs and tunes 😭💔
While people debated who they liked better, I just saw them both. Sammy was great with loads of sold out hot shows. Make sure to see The Circle as Sammy and Mike have been carring the torch for that era of VH music.
It was my parents wedding song too
That was my brother's wedding song. Absolutely beautiful song.
Balance was a great album... very underrated
True! For me right up there with 1984 and the other oldies.
The best VH album of the second half of their career.

Its been two weeks and I thought by now id be ok watching a Van Halen video without getting sad. As soon as Eddie smiles at the camera at the 1 minute mark the tears started again. Such a huge part of growing up in the 80's. We all miss you Eddie.
You took all the words right out of my mouth, 2 1/2 years later…
Why choose sadness? Everyone's time will come, and this is the only one truth of each and every life. Just look at what he achieved with his!! Sad? Hell no! Glad to have been given the miracle of existence at the exact same time as he, to experience the pure inspirational JOY he gave us!!!
I think Eddie's smile is why we miss the 80's so much --- people seemed happier back then --- we weren't afraid to smile and laugh and have a good time --- life seemed more optimistic
I love Sammy's dedication at the end. "peace to Jerry Garcia".
...and peace to Eddie Van Halen. Two greats who are sorely missed.
..when Letterman was great. I remember staying up late to watch this, VCR armed & ready. lol!

Seen them on that tour in Toronto. They were great that night.Never be another EVH.
I wasn't crazy about the album (one of the weaker Van Hagar ones) but the live footage from that tour is really good
Sammy - no lip syncing ever. He is the man. VH was a great band with him as lead singer. R.I.P. to a great band…
You can always look at Eddie and tell he loved music. This is one guy who truly enjoyed what he did for a living. R.I.P. Eddie you’ll really be missed.

Sammy Hagar is one of the best rock vocalists of all time!

It's not the fingers as much as it is cranial. Man was a genius.
Every time I see Eddie smile, it makes me smile. Still hard to believe he is gone. 💔 What a loss. We will have his music forever.
I feel like it just turned off the lights on the Stage permanently and for good reason... I am so, so, seriously incredibly Lucky to have come Up and grow Up with them throughout the ENTIRE Career . Start to Finish '78 - '15 and Up and until Ed's unfortunate passing at age 65 in Oct. '2020 The Music left behind in the vault at 5150 needs to be released, AS IS , in it's ENTIRETY without explanation of Anything for Any reason... NOONE including Wolfie nor Al should so much as touch and mess with what is Eddie just doing what Eddie did. All-day. Everyday. Which is Play Guitar and creates Music for his SOUL and from the Heart that just comes out of HIM and STRAIGHT into Us/Me !!! Little Dutch boy and his Ruckus...

Here`s the latest VH info. Diamond Dave looks to be returning to Vegas to do his own show which leaves the rest of the band in limbo. Lets hope that they kiss and make up with Sammy and Mike and give the world one more look at this VH lineup. The last couple of yrs with Dave were a bit embarrassing IMO.

When you realize Sammy was already pushing 50 there..
And had already been in the business for almost 25 years.
He has a great vocals

I just realize today that Sammy was 45 in the F.U.C.K. Tour... I just couldn't believe it.
I am 20 years old and have been listening to Van Halen since I was 12. As much as I love DLR, Van Halen would not be the band they are today in any way, shape, or form if it were'nt for Sammy Hagar. He helped grow the band in such an awesome way.

I will never get tired of seeing the passion in that man. He has so much of it with every note. RIP to the great one.
That whole Balance album was their last great album and one of my all time favorites.
balance was great, but it lacked that "fluff" pop hit that other albums had... it didnt bother me though. My favorite on that album was Feelin. "I dont like what i been told i'm feelin".
@@mariek6993 Balance is actually my favorite Van Halen album. You're right that it didn't really have any mega hits on it, but it just had so much great music!
It was a number 1 album, sold multi millions. Rock bands couldn't be pop in '95...that passed 3+ years sooner
@rj zander Fair Warning.
The fact it wasn't so "pop" was great!
The best line up Van Halen has ever had! Bring it back please!
Not anymore… 😖
That solo is so immaculate to me and especially how the guitar just feels like it’s a punch in the face. I know people think the brown sound was the best but in my opinion, 5150 up to Balance was Eddie’s prime sound with his melodic playing and just the overall tone in general
I agree
Been listening to Sammy for 30 some years all his songs have had meaning and influence in meaning in my life.Keep rocking Sammy!!

I don't think I've ever heard a crowd at The Late Show go THAT crazy for a live band 👍😎🔥
The difference between the house band and an out-and-out Rock band!
Check out Weezer's Say It Aint So on Letterman. Killer!
You need to remember it was 1995 and grunge had killed off hard rock --- so Van Halen was one of the few rock bands left and people were appreciative of that
The second version of VH is my favorite, the group matured in such a way I don't think D.Lee could of hung with them. Then there's Sammy... The guy's range and vocal control as a live performer is dead on pitch perfect, likely one of the most under rated rock singers of all time.
Granted both fronts had their moments, Dave had the flash and visuals but Sammy took it to a different level vocally and lyrically.
Not to mention that Sammy Hagar is a great guitar player himself, which freed up Eddie to do keyboard duties during the early Van Hagar years.
And they treated Sammy like shit
Sammy was a musician. Roth was a clown with a lousy no range "voice".
@@judithryle2113 Sammy isn't without some blame as well.

My God, this song, this performance, Amazing is the only word i can come up with. So real and raw.
Honestly, as good as it gets. Goosebumps everytime. Sometimes tears. I am now 61. This music was my early 30's. Complex time in life.
Rock bands in the 80s had some insane vocals!!!! I’m still in awe of Eddie Van Halen’s immense talent on the guitar and piano. He seemed so dedicated. That guitar gave him purpose. No wonder he is so good. He cherished his guitar and God given talent. We should all strive to be like that with our own talents. RIP
The Police and VH are unique. Very few musicians are willing to cover their songs, due to vocal or technical matter. Both are filled with best of the very best. The lead singer, the bassist, the drummer, and of course the guitarist.
