I also have mye name onthe wall of the Lodge as a member of the Order of the Arrow. Attended there many times as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Exploer Scout. Good times, good values, good moral and good memories. Still an Eagle!
This is the way I first remember Camp Josepho. My dad took me to Josepho in 1943 to see it. I remember wearing my Cub Scout uniform (I was 9yrs old). I was a "camper" there in 1946 & 47. Lots of great memories at this camp. Four generations of my family have their Order of the Arrow name plaques attached to the wall of the lodge.
Wow. Thanks for this posting. This is some wonderful historical footage. This camp is located in Rustic Canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. It has a wonderful parade grounds, spectacular lodge, and is literally within 1/2 hour of the intersection of the 405 Freeway & Sunset Blvd. It was donated by Anatol Josepho (inventor of the photo booth) and has served the scouts of the West Side of Los Angeles (and since 1972 the Scouts of the San Fernando, Santa Clarita & Antelope Valleys) a Scout camp since the early part of the century. The lodge is enormous, and is equipped with kitchen facilities & historical artwork that is hard to describe. The Order of the Arrow is a service organization within the BSA and requires special election to join. This tradition has lived at Josepho since the early days. Thanks again.
January 2025. Camp Josepho was completely destroyed by the Palisades Fire. The lodge which was steeped in history was also destroyed. So much history, gone forever. Incredibly sad.
16:13 thru 16;40 This was probably considered inclusive and open-minded at the time, but would be politically incorrect now. Judge not, lest ye be judged.
