When ever you’re decoying, big bucks know when they see a big buck decoy they could get intimidated and skirt the decoy if they don’t want to fight…the best way for a buck to come into your set up is to use smaller antlers on the decoy. Cut the plastic tines in half and I’ll guarantee you they commit…and if a buck comes in and doesn’t see “action” such as a wagging tail, they get nervous. A tail wagging shows that the deer is alive and calms the deer. Some states don’t allow an electronic device to be used with decoys. 3rd…if you’re using a buck decoy, the use of a tarsal gland, from a buck harvested from years past, could be used with the decoy because that’s how deer identify one another through smell, and a tarsal gland placed anatomically on the decoy, will pay big dividends. The Tarsal Wick device is used with decoys to hold scent wicks or actual tarsal glands. 👍🏹🙏🦌
This is an awesome episode. Good information guys. I’m one of those who had poor results with decoys and quit using them. I’d love to get a Dave Smith decoy. Wow! Expense! But it does look very realistic. Does it require a stand or come with one or is it designed to stand on its own?
My Question is if almost every buck has come downwind of the decoy, wouldn't it make sense to put the decoy up wind so that the buck comes between me and my decoy for a shot?
Im trying to think of reasons why you would do this. One reason would be so that the buck would have to go by the shooter first before getting to the decoy and potentially realizing something isnt right or blowing it up.
If your hunting low-pressure deer on private land, it's probably good for that situation. If you're a mobile hunter forget about it, because it weighs 35lbs, it's not very practical. I am always suspicious when people do reviews on products, and they only point out the positives and no negatives because there are always trade offs.

My flambeau boss babe doe came with two sets of ears. Aggressive and regular ears. So I'm guessing to change the posture
