Jim needs his own spin-off series explaining these things... and more. An absolute fruitcake but maybe the most interesting character in this show. Why can he speak Chinese? There's way more to him than we get to see in Friday Night Dinner.
Loft = attic, UK and Ireland. [Edit] Also the custom of having a "local" - shorthand for a local pub - is deeply ingrained in culture, esp in non urban areas. A pub that's basically the only option.
Loft is the same as attic… what you described as a level looking over we would normally call a mezzanine. I hope Gimme Gimme Gimme is on your list of shows to react to; think it’s definitely your kind of humour!!
I'd love to see reactions of you watching the UK show "Bad Education" when you get time! The "Mitchell" character is incredible and somewhat similar to Jay from the inbetweeneers with his vulgarity. Jack Whitehall plays the main teacher and it's really an incredible series!
The man who plays jim started off as a children's tv presenter. and he did a comedy with simon pegg spaced u got to watch that show spaced it brilliant
I know you've got loads of stuff to watch but when you get a chance I think you will enjoy The Thick of It - if not watching whole episodes just the insults compilations of Malcolm Tucker
My Great Aunt lived in Florida and was over in the UK visiting family and was talking to my Grandad having to go on a diet and she said "We'll have to cut off your plums!" and my Grandad nearly died of a heart attack we was laughing so hard!
A loft is an attic, it’s where we shove our suitcases, crimbo tree etc Calling someone a Plum is a mild insult we use, normally in a nice but insulting way lol
In British usage, lofts are usually just a roof space accessed via a hatch and loft ladder, while attics tend to be rooms immediately under the roof accessed via a staircase. It's a hollow area where we can store things like for Christmas or other things to make more space when we need something we need a ladder to open a little hatch wooden bit to open to gain access to the loft its all wood slaps with fibre glass insulation to pad it around.
Yes, Jim referring to his meal as 'sheep' is weird, but we do eat adult sheep! Mutton (sheep meat) is commonly used for slow cooking (stews, curries) to prevent it from being too tough, often used in South Asian and Jamaican dishes. There's even an old idiom we have : 'mutton dressed as lamb', meaning to disguise someone or something to make it look better than it is!
A loft, the roof space , usually accessible by the small opener in the ceiling , and where, in all horror/ghost films strange tappings/footsteps and other noises seem to emit , inevitably the light will not work ,and its usually a pigeon anyway
I would love to hang out with the two of you and Karl on a trip to another country. Btw Brian I’m glad your channel is doing great. Very happy for you both. Sky is the limit
A lot of them have closed down now, but the village I grew up in had 7 pubs/social clubs and only one shop. There was probably more than one pub where this was set unless it's meant to be some super-tiny village.
Loft is just what we Brits call an attic. Aloft means above, a loft is above. Also the reason they all ended up at the same pub is because that pub would likely be their 'local', in the UK just about every suburb (if not every street) has a pub, they are everywhere and the closest one is your local, usually within walking distance of your house. The reason for this historically is because the pub (aka public house) was the meeting place for everyone in the community, it was likely the Angles and Saxons who started this when they came across the sea 1100 years ago - in Nordic and Germanic communities the 'mead hall' or 'beer hall' was the centre of the community, where everyone went to socialise at the end of the day. 1100 years later and the UK - and most of northern Europe - still has the same tradition, walk to the pub around 9 and have a few beers before bed.
I loved your in-betweeners videos and thought that was your peak, but this video had me chuckling man. You two are great. Big love from Eastbourne, South coast of England. I'm absolutely toasted. Tough week. Tonight's intoxicants helped! Buzzing! Love you both. The nostalgia you give me is awesome. Much Love Florida xx
Driving on the left is not hard. Yes, it takes a little getting used to, but after about 30-60 minutes of driving in the UK I got the hang of it. (I'm also an American). And yes, most of the world drives on the right. It's the UK and the countries that were historically influenced by them that still drive on the left.
Driving on the left in Europe is the UK, Ireland (and associated Islands eg Channel Islands), Cyprus and Malta. There have also been issues raised about pubs with similar names recently - some of which were historical and referred to chimney sweeps - which was the argument, and a street was renamed for similar reasons with the arguments over history and what it either referred to or may have been seen to refer to
Loft is an Attic, basically. And we may have small country compared to the states, but our land was much more vast than america, including that country😅
a room or space directly under the roof of a house or other building, used for accommodation or storage. "the best way to prevent this heat loss is by insulating the loft"
Ever get the feeling watching Friday Night Dinner... you don't want the seasons to end but you know they will? I was so gutted when I got to the last one. This is one of the best comedies I have ever seen and I have seen them all.
King and queen are my guilty pleasure especially at night i chill and watch a ton of your videos i love it more when its both of you because your both so funñy together
This is great all those heavily veiled looks and not saying what it is love your reaction too and mosquito watch I had that experience with a bee in my kitchen they’re so noisy and stressed out thanks King and Queen Boomer live this show❤
I imagine they live in the outer London suburbs so there's likely at least 2 pubs within walking distance. The Black Boy is probably the closer one (and the nastier one) and the only one they know about because they're not pub people.
I was pissed off at my brother for about two weeks due to a dream, I couldn't even remember what the dream was about but my brain kept telling me I was angry at him for something. I knew it was irrational/not real but I still had to keep myself in check for the next few weeks every time I saw him!
loft is something similar to an attic, its not quite as big, but its enough to use for storage i guess its similar to a crawlspace in size, its just on the roof instead
A loft in the UK is in the roof basically and its where you store shit you dont use or chrostmas decorations and go up there once a year to get them down 😂 I used to be scared when my dad got stuff down from the loft as big spiders used to live up there 😂
Much as a lot of our pub names ("The White Hart", "The Red Lion", "The White Lion", "The Rose & Crown", "The King's / Queen's Head", "The Duke of York") display allegiance to monarchs, or candidates to the monarchy or members of the royal family, so the name The Black Boy demonstrates allegiance to King Charles II, who succeeded his father in 1649 but due to the Civil War lived in exile in France until 1630 when he returned to England. During his sojourn in France he was said to have developed a swarthy, dark tan, common to its citizens, combined with his dark,, black hair,, so that on his return he contrasted significantly to the fair-skinned English, so much so that he attracted the sobriquet "The Black Boy". At that time large numbers of the population were still anti-monarxhy, having just emerged from the Commonwealth, so the use of this metaphor, rather than, e.g The King's Head, would have afforded a little protection to those innkeepers.
Village i grew up in ...locally to us we had four to five pubs .... but i guess it depends on how many customers with needs that makes the amount of pubs And the size of village.
I think we need more Jane content I for one would would watch the jane freakout cut of this reaction 🤣she could have her own vlog; The Boomer Hound, "American dog reacts to - " 😂
Loft in the UK is basically a space in the roof people use to store Xmas decorations 😂
Could’ve just said attic
The scary place up above!!!😮
@@SoInSaNe1997 Attic is more spacious
Yeah it basically an attic
@@wilson0213 They could be any size.
"in a yellowish room" will always be my favourite line 😂

I never actually understood what he meant by that 😭
Loft = attic, UK and Ireland. [Edit] Also the custom of having a "local" - shorthand for a local pub - is deeply ingrained in culture, esp in non urban areas. A pub that's basically the only option.
we want even more friday night dinner boomer! 6 seasons of it 😂
Wow really? I’d never heard of it before this channel. Good news.
Here in the uk, loft and attic are pretty much interchangeable
Loft is the same as attic… what you described as a level looking over we would normally call a mezzanine.
I hope Gimme Gimme Gimme is on your list of shows to react to; think it’s definitely your kind of humour!!
I’m in a bad place and you two really help me get through. Have so much love for you both 💔
The way you two can both laugh at each other's total muppetry bodes very well for your future together !

The US is 40 times the size of the UK, but has only 5 times the population, which means its density is an eighth of that of the UK.
I’ve found myself enjoying watching these shows more with you guys. I live alone and it’s like having company 🤷♀️😂
The man who plays jim started off as a children's tv presenter. and he did a comedy with simon pegg spaced u got to watch that show spaced it brilliant
Also "Big Train" with Simon Pegg and others. Same writers/creators as Father Ted. Incredibly underrated and these two would love it.
and he was in Green Wing
Jam...
He also was in big train with Simon pegg too
Jim is SO AFRAID OF HIS OWN DOG!!!!😂😅😂😅
Loft is literally just a direct translation of attic for us
Where I live in Bristol there is a Whiteladies Rd which leads onto Blackboy Hill, along with the Blackboy Inn

You never asked but "Berk" is short for "Berkley Hunt", which is cockney rhyming slang (7:49).
Not Berkshire Hunt?
Plum is a slang term for testicle. As in getting kicked in the plums
Also prize plum, dumb
As in kiss me plums
My Great Aunt lived in Florida and was over in the UK visiting family and was talking to my Grandad having to go on a diet and she said "We'll have to cut off your plums!" and my Grandad nearly died of a heart attack we was laughing so hard!
People walk around more in the UK. Thats probably the nearest pub in walking distance.
A 'Florida loft' here is a mezzanine and a loft here is an attic there
A loft in UK is basically what you'd call an "attic" in the US.
And You Guys Saved My Friday Night!
Cheers K&Q B!

Loft is the room between the ceiling and the roof. Mainly used for storage.
FND is set in N London, and was filmed there in a real house in Mill Hill, an upmarket suburb.
