  • A growing number of Canadian families are choosing to home-school their children, according to a study released by the Fraser Institute. The Study suggests that while decisions to home school in the past were driven by ideology and religion, families are now choosing this option for more pragmatic reasons. At our visit to Being Me Conference, we met someone who believes homeschooling is ideal, for both religious and pragmatic reasons. Ustadha Zohra is a Muslim author, business coach, entrepreneur and international speaker living in Sacramento USA.

i loved when she said, my kids would have a large room, they would have their own cars - but on the other hand, they would be cursing, and disrespectful.... this stayed with me.

The best place to start is to pick up a translation of the Quran and read! Lectures are great but the book is where all the wisdom lies.

I would strongly advise you to follow up lecture and readings from Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, rather than people just as Dr Zakri Nike and other scholars relating to the Salafi principles. Follow those who respect, love and abide to the traditions of the Prophet MuhammedPeace and Blessings upon them, the Companions-this includes having love and respect towards Hazrat/Saint Umar Farooq and Hazrat/Saint Abu Bakr as there is often a lot of open or subtle prejudices against them. Follow and listen to those who love and respect the blessed family of the Prophet Muhammad Peace and blessings be Upon them- right from the start of Prophet Ibrahim peace be upon them; with the notion of all the family lineage as pure and free from corruption. Follow and listen and sit in the company of those who love and respect Saints- yes Saints those who are regared as Friends of Allah and are referred as the 'righteous people' in the Qur'an. In terms of reading literature and looking up the history of Islam, focus in thr work of Imam Abu Hanifa peace be upon them, Imama Ahmed Raza Khan peace upontthem Imam Ghazali peace be upon them. Look at the examples of the Ottoman Empire and great Saints such as Hazrat Abdul Jilani peace be upon them, Hazrat Hasan Basri peace be upon them, Hazrat Ganji Shukr peace be upon them, Hazrat Khawja Moindiune Chisti peace be upon them and practice their way of life. May Allah the Almighty, for the Sake of his beloved messenger guide you and the rest of mankind and give you the strength and ability to follow the blessed footsteps of the beloved messenger peace and blessings upon them and excell as a parent! Ameen!

We've decided to home school, Alhamdulilah. It's been a real blessing. Even documenting it has been fun.
Sheik Hamza Yusuf was an inspiration to do so. If you are thinking about
taking the leap, just fly off that cliff. You're going to be great, insh
    Allah.

Alhamdulillaah, excellent motivational lecture, beneficial for beginners and seasoned homeschooling families. Definately a great reminder to start with giving all credit to Allaah. That is our problem, attributing to ourselves any success.

I really believe that we homeschoolers build this bubble around our kids where we teach them whats right and whats wrong, whats good and bad so when they are eventually exposed to the "real" world they know whats good for them.. they will always find their tribe in shaAllah..

I will beg to differ, the one-to-one early education did not come from mothers it came from ulema and clerics of Islam. Rasing kids inside the house can backfire because being dependent on only one person is not logical and practical to a great extent. Unless mom is super well-educated deen and otherwise.

Masha Allah it's all great, I home school too, but the point being missed here she has more wealth in order to provide them with a better level of education, going on trips etc all costs. I must say if you have a bigger budget to can deliver better schooling.
