the first Petes were called the "Skate Creek Diesel Log Trucks" because they started hauling above National Washington up the Skate Creek drainage. My uncle was one of the first wrench twisters on them. Another uncle drove one right after WW II. Some tremendous loads were hauled by those early trucks.
William Fageol. I will assume that your great grandfather must have made some of the trucks that My great grandfather (Jack Sneed Sr.) modified to fit the needs of Consolidated Freightways... Almost 100 years ago.
And I happen to be one of those that knew of this when my age was still in the single digits, over 40 years ago - thanks to the books at my late parents got me as gifts, or that I checked out from the local library. I was very much a hardcore truck fanatic, even then. 😆
Can’t mistake the sound of a cummins with a compression release, sounds just like our old 230. Pull it, crank about 10 seconds then let the handle go and POP..she’s running.
When I was with Cummins,we ran into some of these H rngines still in use in the 80's. Without being right on top of it , it appears to have the double disc fuel pump. More than likely it is a 5 1/th small bore 180. The crankshaft dampener will tell you a lot about it. I have books that identify the engine if I had the s/n
@@flight2k5 If the government requires it then the government should pay for it's up keep and mataince. 60% of the truck that come to our shop are having issues with emissions. I know of independent owners who were put out of business because they couldn't afford to repair the emissions systems on they're trucks. These systems have nothing to do with the trucks performance and cause unessecry mataince cost that many companies struggle to keep in check.
Fageol was bought by RW Peterman in 1939. By the time the plant was moved to California the US Military orderd them to start war production. Consequently Peterbilt did not produce a truck till 1947 after the end of the war. The cabs are the same today.
@raginroadrunner - What do you mean "moved to California"? The plant was always in Oakland, California. It was a California company. Though the company was incorporated (and consolidated) in 1916, it began as a company in 1905. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fageol
mane i like that truck but question if you decide that's if you can to turn that truck in to an 18 weeler what you got to do to have that truck modified for like newer trailers as as seen and used these days?

This is the first and only truck that I have ever seen made by Fageol. I have driven the fageol buss in the army at fort sill Oklahoma in 1960 61. the engine was under the floor and laid kinda on it's side the darn thing sure was ugly could be converted to litter carry..
I remember a nice Faegol bus, custom made for the movie business.. big full width door on the back end. Interesting. I think it might have had a layed over waukeshaw type engine in the center.. but not sure.

Sorry. I'll have myself shot in the morning !
I always thought it was T.A. Peterman?!?
Very nice and a thumbs up liked.
Very cool.
I never hear an old Cummins start using the compression release anymore. Does it have 24 cold starting also?
I was always told to spray it when cranking, sweet ride though.
My uncle Jim used to pull logs with one of these when he came to California.
Love the yard! Everything well preserved, if it was New England, everything wood have 80 foot trees growing threw it and be rotted out piece of junk
That's called California

Lanova combustion... Is it a Buda engine?
Is that a 220 clapper Cummins?

That truck was in Collectible Automobile magazine a few years back.

Sleeper cab bumper bar mud flaps and rear fenders?

Simple answer is you wouldn't do anything to it.

Looks similar to my moline tractor engine. Good looking truck. I would replace my powerstroke with one if I had the dough. Lol

What kind of power plant is that?
+Dylan Rothwell It is an HB-150 Cummins.
180 Cummins, 466 rears, 4/5 twin stick?
Taking my best guess here.

These were the pre peterbilts. Can still see it in cab design.
