Bro I used to wade or park the boat during the negative tides in the winter and hit all of the oysters bars on the flats and get dozens of those mud crabs in just 15-20 minutes. The redfish love them as the tide rolls in or up in the bushes. Great baits for free. It’s cool you do these kind of videos. They are fun to watch.
Hey, thank you for the video. I am new to Tampa, and I am trying to find good places to fish. Do you my any chance remember where this bridge was located?
Hey, I’m land locked, so can you do a video on how to read the tides and weather to determine the best times to fish. I’m tired of going out fishing, only to come back empty handed. Exhausted hours and no fish, with the exception of trash fish. Please help!
Seems like low tide is better for creeks as they tend to huddle up in the deeper holes. Sunrise and sunset (hr or two before and after) is usually good. Before a big storm is supposed to be good. If the water is too cold or too hot, the biting can be slower in general. Hell even a bad day of fishing is still better than most days.
@@fortheloveofmoney1752 For sheepshead live baits is the way to go by far. You can also use barnacles as bait, and sheepshead usually like to hangout by pilings that are loaded with barnacles. If you are at one of these pilings, scrape off a bunch of them so they can essential chum the water. Sheepshead also like sand fleas, shrimp (though tons of other fish like shrimp so they probably get it before the sheepshead ever finds it), any crabs, mussels, etc. The bite is very subtle and they can be hard to hook. You might get 10 bites where they steal your bait and only hookup a small percentage of the time. Also it is better to use smaller hooks, like a 1, 2, 1/0 or maybe 2/0 at the biggest. I like the circle hooks and octopus style hooks. I've seen a bunch of sheepshead next to pilings at the skyway fishing pier, but hardly see anyone trying to catch them. They are usually right next to the pier and you don't have to cast far at all for them.
@@jtoker9758 I really appreciate all the information you’ve given me. I’ve taken a screen shot of the message you sent, hoping it will generate me some (convicts), sheepshead. I’m fairly new here to Tampa for the last three years, but have really had some bad luck when it comes to fishing. I assume it’s me, so this strategy should hopefully increase my hookup ratio. Thanks again!
@@fortheloveofmoney1752 Damn just typed up a bunch and clicked on something else and it all gone. So basically sheepshead like to hangout around 'structure'. So bascially anywhere that isn't' just out in the open with nothing around. So rocks, pilings, grass, bouy's, seaweed (saw a group around some seaweed at the skyway pier), etc. I'm not in FL but where I fish in my state there are a bunch of big rocks that they put next to the ocean and this is where I catch the sheeps at, right next to shore sometimes only having my bait out as far as my pole sticks out. Here are some youtubers that give out great fishing advice and great advice on sheepshead........Make Time For Fishing, Bama Saltwater, Salt Strong, Landshark Outdoors, 1Fish2Fish. Them mud crabs are fuckin candy for sheeps. We had a bunch of fiddler and some other brown small crab that would live closer on land, but these mud crabs all brought in big sheepshead and got hit up very quick. People talk about fiddlers but I would rather have mud crabs 100% of the time of all choices.
@@badfishtv3813 nice! Me and my buddies are always out in the Tampa/st Pete and Ana Maria areas slaying fish, if you ever do a meet and greet type of thing where you fish with fans I’d love to come out !
That Pistol Shrimp is not to be taken lightly. It has the most powerful punch of the Animal Kingdom. I’ve seen them punch through a wet suit and draw blood. Their punch is so fast it actually boils the water around the giant claw. They are meant to punch through shells.
Hell, I’m having a time catching fish. I tried to study the weather and tides but to no avail, can’t catch any fish. Can you do a video on the reading the weather and tides to determine the best times to fish? That would help me out tremendously.
You have to look on negative low tides when the rocks are exposed anywhere you find rocks on the edge of the water flip the rocks and you will find them.
Good video and great content. Im glade you guys made this because i love flippin rocks up here in the north catchin crayfish. I just got back from Florida and bought shrimp for bait everyday. Not no more!!!
Muds get as big as stones, you just have to pick areas that are unmolested. We get mud crabs that are so big they make 4 baits, 2 claws and cut the body in half.
I've found that using a hook more like a 6/0 to 8/0 bass worm hook or live bait (whatever you have laying around) hook is better. You just have to fish a little heavier line and set the hook harder.
We wear extra thick rubber gloves when we crab dig. If the crab has stripped legs,, it is a juvenile stone crab, dont take those or you might get a fat fine.
Snap off the claws and drop them as chum where you are fishing. Unless they are big enough to hook, then slightly crush them and set the hook on the 1st bump.
Tip: WEAR GLOVES. The barnacles and oysters on those rocks will tear you up. I suppose if you have gnarly sailor hands you might be okay, but having sliced up hands is not much fun.
Fantastic. My dream is to get a truck camper with a small trailable boat and kayak and fish all those shallow areas. Regards from Greece. That area should be awesome to kayak fish. Keep up the good work.
@@badfishtv3813 Hahahaha. Sorry i found that amusing. A kayak , SUP or even wadefishing should be awesome there. Being an ex South African now living in Greece i really miss my fishing. You guys are very lucky because Greece is overfished. Keep up the good work.
Bit bad when a angler doesnt know how tho get the bait he uses to fish with. Wearing gloves FFS! Even my wife doesnt mind getting her hands dirty. Do you get someone to put them on your hook too? If you have OCD then I appologize. If not then grow some!
Thank you for the awesome comment that show was made to try to help people and explain to people who have never done it before so we asked the questions and explained what most beginners would not know for learning purposes but if that makes you feel good to comment something like that on a video designed to help people than good for you and congratulations to you both on being professional crab catchers👍.

I used to use thick leather work gloves to flip the heavier rock with oysters on them. They'll split you open

Where is this ?
Nice job on the Sheepshead! Mud crabs for the WIN!
If you use a 3\0 live bait hook it will get behind the teeth instead of lip hooking them, then the bigs cant tear off as easy.
Videos keep getting better! Keep it up!
Thanks buddy!
Another dope vid. The spot you were fishing, was is a spot you already knew or did you just look for mullet and stop?
Just looked for mullet it’s a fairly new area to me.
