There is one mistake : The color temp is important on black and white, especially because it affects the intensity of the makeup. The Makeup artists play with specific colors in black and white to adjust the grey intensity. a color temperature is affecting how this make up will render. If you don't care, you can havec some eyelids that are too black or too white. Otherwise, there are some great information on light positionning and scene construction.
I would love to see you do a video focusing on 'Lighting on a Budget'. How can I get awesome lighting by manipulating natural light or just using household lights.
Stopped listening when he said that colour temperature didn't matter with black and white. The effect is a lot more subtle than with colour, but it's still there..
Newbie question - I shoot black and white stills only, and use colored filters to grab more dramatic skies or to soften areas, these filters effect the outcome greatly. In a studio setting though, would colored lighting, using gels, have the same effect? ie. lighting the subject with lights covered in red gels, or having a practical light covered with green gels? Sorry if the answer is obvious...I am very new to this! Thanks a million.
Would you please consider making a video about how to get the most out of the new Aputure F-7? I have it preordered and would love to see how you’d use it as a key, fill, rim light, etc. Basically, you guys are the experts, and I’d love to see how far you can push that little beast of a light. Can’t wait for it to ship!
I would be really interested in seeing a video on using your LED panels, I think for a lot of UA-camrs and hobbyists, things like led panels seem to be a lot more practical than the 120d or 300d are(although we would all love to have them). Maybe a youtube space type setup using only LED panels?
Congratulations Dunna! We’ve chosen you as the winner of the free Amaran M9 Light for this Four Minute Film School episode. Please message our facebook page facebook.com/Aputure and we will sort out the details with you there. Thanks for your comment!
Great vid! I'm making my first short film and have what might be a stupid, amateur question- Do these tips and techniques still apply if you are filming in color (video) and making it B&W in post?
You guys seem to do a lot of night time lighting tutorials. I'm actually about to shoot as short film and I would love it if the A team could do an on location morning and early morning lighting setup. Thanks! :)
How about lighting a subject in a small/shallow space? I think the majority of people don't have a wide and deep studio to work with and need help getting a good shot with a small room!
I would think that you would of added your rim light on the actress in the pool room scene on the other side of her head to mimic the practicals behind her.
Chalex dark one light as key, one light to cover/accentustr background, the ambient light is your fill. Use practicals to light the space and motivate your key, use your second light to punch up the practicals.
These are great videos but please please please stop with the standard UA-camr “what’s up guys” and the Peter McKinnon practical transitions. You are leading the pack with your incredible gear, you don’t need to follow the pack with your content. It’s strong. Let it speak for itself.

Thank you for mentioning this! Color theory is important.

I'd love to see a video on how to light small spaces. Like how do you light a car interior scene and other similarly small spaces?

Simple and to the point. In 5 minutes I've learned a lot. Thanks guys.

Next Ep: Building a travel light kit. Aka lighting on the road!
I would think that you would of added your rim light on the actress in the pool room scene on the other side of her head to mimic the practicals behind her.
Where was this video two months ago?
Soo many lights. That’s definitely over a 3k light setup
Good video

Useful content as always, but please stop saying awesome. The “slapping-hand-over-lens transition” is also very annoying.
ignore color temperature when you're shooting black and white?! c'mon guys, you can do better! :)

Why do they start every sentence with "cool", "awesome", and "great"?
Recreate the look of Vito Corleone in his office with the cat.
Jordan Hurd big softbox directly overhead, diffused to hell.
Stops saying awesome at the start of every sentence, it's really annoying and brings down what would otherwise be a great educational video.

Needs more "awesome"
A knife cut through fruit like a fang biting tender flesh, then the mystery began...
Looks beautiful. She shouldn't be using a chef knife in the dark. Worrying about her finger took me out of the narrative.
And this is how you get that terrible flat lighting in WandaVision. Color plays a lot in black and white
what was this shot on? Alexa?

honestly if this bloke says awesome one more time.. 😠
the most annoying bit of video i've seen for a long time
Just found this channel. Subscribed. But am already considering unsubscribing due to the annoying and dumb over-use of the term "awesome".
