My 4 yr old watched this episode in 2015 and started painting like Jackson Pollock. Now, a little over a year later, her work is being featured in a local gallery! Thank you 'Artrageous with Nate' for awakening this young artist!
Jasmine Ray Thanks so much for sharing this! You absolutely made my day. Please let your son know I am 100% behind him!! Of course, I would love to see anything he creates! Feel free to jump on twitter or Facebook and tag me @artrageousnate
What a great film on Jason Pollock .When I worked in the Tate Britain I loved the huge painting they had of his and although he is not my favourite painter, I do admire his work. He did die youngish suffering from depression and alcoholism in a crash that killed himself and a companion and seriously injured another.
This is the best film I have found to education students about Jackson Pollock. The tour of his house and studio barn was an amazing addition. I appreciate that the video did not dive into his alcohol abuse. Creative people tend to have their struggles, and that is not what they need to be remembered by- their work is powerful and strong enough on it's on. My students new favorite word is VISCOSITY! LOL! I learned something new myself! The addition of science was a great way to add more depth to the video, as well as a greater understanding of the process and creation of Pollock's work. Thanks Nate! :)
Hi Amber! Thanks so much for this incredibly helpful and encouraging feedback! I also completely agree with you about Pollock and artists in general. I try to move beyond the stereotypes society has placed on them, and hopefully present them in a way that makes us think and hopefully appreciate their life and work. So glad your students appreciate the segment on viscosity! I loved animating that:) Thanks again, and thank YOU for being an educator.
I've always been a Jackson Pollock fan and thought this was a really fun video. I know its geared towards kids, but in some ways I think most artists are just big kids. Tour of Jackson's house and studio was my fav part. Great job on this.
scott oconnor Thanks, Scott! I have to completely agree with you, I think most artists are either big kids or simply trying to become one again. Always reminds me of that great Picasso quote, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Thanks again for watching!
This is a GREAT video and look at Jackson Pollock. You could do a similar one on Grant Wood. HIs studio in Cedar Rapids and his work on display in Iowa including the murals at Parks Library at Iowa State University. Thank you for sharing.
AbandonedExplorers.com super appreciate your feedback. I would love to do an episode on Grant Wood, great idea!! Thanks for the support, and for watching!
What a great video about Jackson Pollock. Not only have stuff for kids but also has lots of art, history and science combined to keep a grow up like me interested. But wait...Doing a Jackson Pollock mural inspired with a zipline? That was lot of fun and creativity. Thanks for sharing!!!
Mural wasn’t finished in 24 hours. Examination of the piece revealed layers of dried oil paint upon other layers, which requires several days to dry. So it couldn’t have been done in a day.
Yeah, since I made this episode I've read a lot of articles on this too. I think you may be right. But, it's discussions like these that I absolutely love! At the end of the day it's amazing what he did at least within a week. Ha! Thanks for watching!
@@artrageousnate i used the exact same kind of paint that jackson used and proved that he is right. it took me 3 days to finish a not-so-big canvas. it takes time to dry, and thats even better because you get to contemplate and analyze the painting even more.
Amber RH So glad you found the show, Amber! Hope you students enjoy. Feel free to let me know how it goes, and definitely share any artwork created! -Nate
So fantastic to hear! When I made this episode I was still teaching 5th and 6th grade art, so that works out! Really appreciate you using our episodes, and most definitely for being an educator. Thank you.- Nate
Really excited about this program - how is it possible you only have 151 views?! Have you started a FB page? Are you taking this to art education conferences? Love this show! How can I help spread the word?
@@nspeirs6218 yeah I can He also said in this video that he pour, throw, smear the paint .Jackson cannot paint his same painting again cause he didn't have any control all the work is done by Mother nature.
Michael, would you call him names if he stood there, right in front of you, maybe a specialist in martial arts? No, you would run away, making a mess in your pants.
And there is the trap. He said, "This is not art for me". Nothing offensive about it. As an artist i see it is subjective, narrative or objective, I would rather someone have an opinion then none at all. By the way, great video - except you missed the alcoholism and drugs bit.
jothree Wow, that seems a bit extreme. Sorry you feel that way. I made this episode at the time for elementary aged students, which is a much younger demographic than I focus on now. Thankfully, most have learned something new about a very misunderstood artist and abstract expressionism.
Well, you definitely wouldn't be the first person to accuse him of that! Honestly, he and others were coming out of the Great Depression pushing art in new ways. I personally don't believe he destroyed art, but he definitely caused a ripple in the art world. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing!

I bet his art is better thank this crap, lol. Not a fan of Pollock.
@@joselrizo Well, I think you'd bid well to know that your opinion is irrelevant 🤷♂️
Luv Pollock... revolutionary, to say the least... gone too soon...
You're handsome! Thx for the studio tour...

Viscosity
Everybody can do a Jackson Pollock, but, nobody can sell it for 150 millions bucks, that's what it worths.
You could pull that floor up and hang it in a larger gallery.
great show! though if u posted just `kids make jackson pollock painting from the sky with waterguns` that might get millions of views on youtube lol

que genial video
JJ Merci! Vous habitez en France? Je serai la bas cette été. Je vais film beaucoup des episodes!
Soy de Chile y no hablo frances, aunque me gustaría. Espero sigas subiendo videos como este sds
jack the dripper!!!!
I used to be impressed with Jackson Pollack and then I tripped and fell while carrying three paint cans.
Haha, right. This dude was trash
The difference is Pollock did what he did deliberately. Of course your story of falling while carrying paint is made up.
WHEN POLLOCK STARTED DRIPPING & DROPPING HE HAD NO CLUE WHAT IT WOULD
LOOK LIKE WHEN HE WAS POOPED OUT. SO THE FINISHED ITEM WAS UNINTENTIONAL

Just tell me what is good about those paintings any one can pour paint on canvas and make such paintings.

Everybody could but nobody did
YOUR TITLE IS WRONG, IE "WHAT WAS JACKSON POLLOCK"
Like pollock
Was he a murderer like Caravaggio?
Hungry Basset don’t believe so. Only crime Pollock had was drinking and driving far too often.
not me but my sin
Shopee
This is BS. Art my butt
looks like shit
This is not art to me
羊义 thank you someone who isn't a fucking dumbass
Yes yes ,the one that don't even understand anything of art.
Then it wasn't meant for you.

this video is so bad it makes me cringe
