I heard Eddie gave Mini Eddie from the video a Kramer Frankenstrat after the video shoot in 84. Then he sold it on EBAY for Bank after Eddie passed away. Don't know how accurate the story is, but I would've Never sold that guitar 😢
The video is crucial because it is the perfect example of how music changed from being only about the sound of the music to being the sounds plus a visual.
@@kdm71291 there are a couple, and this is certainly one. Though I'd say hearing just the music first is almost always the better of the two. Can't think off the top of my head hardly any that seeing the video first is better. Maybe that live version of Unchained Melody by the Righteous brothers is one?? Maybe.
You opened your remarks with a criticism (followed by some praise, of course). THANK YOU! So many music reaction channels are just “yes men” (or women)… they’re so afraid of pissing off their subs. It makes me angry. Props to you guys for always speaking the truth.
My 4th grade teacher looked like a brunette Farra Fawcet and lived in one of the biggest party apartments in Atlanta in the 70's. One day she came to class in the same wrap around dress that she wore to the club the night before. She was still inebriated, and she sat on her desk and crossed her ankles which made it very apparent that she was going commando!
I still remember my neighbor coming over with this new tape in his hand. We checked out the cover, opened the cassette (I think it was white), put it on and were blown away. Holy smokes...that was 40 year ago.
The Van Halen’s dad played jazz in bands, picking up whatever work he could find. Their family was poor and didn’t speak English when they came to the US which made it difficult to find gigs.
I was a freshman in college when this song came out. Back then, almost everyone had a nice stereo setup. Two architecture students were next to me in the dorm room, seniors, and they would blast this in their room. The whole first floor shook. Good times!
@@AirplayBeats I was shocked the video wasn't played, I think you guys are the first reactors to this song I've seen not watch the original video (which is super campy 80's stuff my dudes that is necessary viewing).
In my opinion, Alex Van Halen does not get the praise he deserves as a Top 5 Drummer! Alex is a beast. To see him live is an experience…seeing VH live, I had one goal, watch Alex play Hot for Teacher. He was so damn fast, his hans were literally a blur!
"I'LL WAIT'' off this album is a taste of what direction Eddie was going... People think Sammy had some influence on the musical style change, but Eddie was already moving in that direction and Sammy fit perfectly... Grown up rock. (Dave never grew up, to this day... lol)
I feel sorry for y'all🤣 I just want to give a shout out to Miss Penik ❤ My high school drama teacher. I was a sophomore that year and she was like 22 or 23 yrs. old. I signed up for that class every semester until I graduated:) She was more beautiful with each passing year and beyond.😍 It broke my heart when she became Mrs. Coop 😞💔
6th Grade Ms. McDaniel. Beautiful. Definitely Hot. Here's the kicker: That's exactly what I told her. I was 11-12? 2 days detention. She had to do her job, but I have always wondered if that really offended her.
It's so insane that I heard this when it was originally released, and people are still getting to experience that very same experience, but decades later. Great channel guys. Thanks.
I like that you didn’t do the video. I didn’t mind the video after knowing the music, but it was titillating and campy with its own story that distracted from the song that already had lots of ‘Dave antics’.
As hip hop fans , the song you’d probably enjoy most off the 1984 album is “I’ll Wait”. That album had some monster hits. “I’ll Wait” wasn’t one of the huge radio hits , but it’s up your alley.
This is an iconic song. (and video, as everyone has mentioned, lol). 'Drop Dead Legs' from the same album is a banger!! Dirty sound, sleazy (sound), funky, just sooooo good. You guys would love it.
My Second grade teacher Ms. Jaqueline Stewart! I had a mad crush on her; if you’re familiar she looked just like entertainer “Lola Falana!” Gorgeous!! 🥴✌🏾😎
Van Halen always lets fly the with guitar pyrotechnics, but this song is really about the drums, especially the double bass drum pattern -- herta-fuelled, toms-and-double-kick shuffle -- that sounds like a rumbling motorcycle engine. The MTV video for this song is also fun. It plays up the teenage crush on the teacher aspect of the song.
Great reaction guys! Too fast?! This song wasn't meant to be danced to, it was meant to drive to, hence why the opening sounds like a Harley idling! PERFECT tempo! I can certainly say there was a couple teachers in my high school I had the hots for! You need to follow this up with I'll Wait - which comes right after on the album! It's an ideal 'cool-down' from this manic track - plus shows where Eddie was heading from a keys composition standpoint! It's probably one of VH's darker tunes. Cheers!
One of the best shows ive eber seen was at Tangerine Bowl Van Halen opened for the Stones Standing 4 th. What about Eddie? Were you watching the video ?! 50 plus & men. Lol
I think yall are right about the hook it works at the time it and maybe like 1/2 time like somewhere near half the speed might sound dope again idk anyways always great hangin w u guyz
It’s imperative to watch the video they made for this song…
Yes, definitely have to watch the video!
Correct.
Impossible to listen to this song and not picture the video!!
I heard Eddie gave Mini Eddie from the video a Kramer Frankenstrat after the video shoot in 84. Then he sold it on EBAY for Bank after Eddie passed away. Don't know how accurate the story is, but I would've Never sold that guitar 😢
Absolutely 😂
If there was ever a "Ya gotta watch the video song", this is it.
“I don’t feel tardy.” Best line in the song. ❤😂❤😂
Really need to watch the official video .
The video is crucial because it is the perfect example of how music changed from being only about the sound of the music to being the sounds plus a visual.
Yeah, but these guys care about the music and only watch video if it's live.
@@sebastianblack6506
This should be the exception.
I think the vid distracts from a near perfect track.

One of the greatest drum intros ever. Alex Van Halen is the most underrated drummer ever
Nobody that matters underrates Alex...

''I don't feel tardy'' always cracks me up! Solo is so awesome!

Yeah Diamond Dave the game show host.

In grade 8 we had a French Teacher that was very beautiful. She would sometimes dangle one high-heal shoe from the end of her toe.
She did it on purpose.
She knew exactly what she was doing.

That entire album is a banger
That one bangs from start to finish
Last year you guys did Ice Cream Man on my birthday, this year on my birthday, another Van Halen banger 🙏🏻 thank u La & Che

David Lee Roth era Van Halen will always be my go to. 1978, 11th grade, blasted it for days.
Sammy's too tense for me.
Although I still like Montrose!
The Van Halen’s dad played jazz in bands, picking up whatever work he could find. Their family was poor and didn’t speak English when they came to the US which made it difficult to find gigs.
Now you have to watch the video….greatest rock video of all time!
😉
Alex Van Halen patterned his opening drums after his Harley Davidson engine sound
The drums intro inspired by Billy Cobhams Quadrant 4 off Spectrum album
great album, and Tommy Bolin!

It’s a high energy song. The tempo is perfect for this type of driving music.

Nice reaction! This song is impressive and an adrenaline rush, but it wouldn't be the first VH song that I'd think of listening to
The video is what makes the song. No video no song.
