I'll tell you all about the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, also known as Sukkos, as well as take you along while I decorate my sukkah for Sukkot and chit chat with you along the way about more Sukkot holiday traditions. This is all about the holiday of Sukkot, (which is part of the Jewish High Holidays) and my prep work going into the holiday. Its a week long holiday so stay tuned for more Sukkot content coming soon!
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and together we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. My videos are a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done.

If you celebrated Sukkot, how were your first two days? If you don't celebrate, what did you think of the Sukkah and traditions?
I find the Jewish religion really interesting. I met a Jewish girl while in the service, she was very nice when I asked her a bunch of questions lol. Btw I was raised Catholic.
@@stephanieh.3302 Thank you so much for watching and commenting! That is so cool that you were able to learn so much form your friend. Fun fact, I was raised Catholic as well :) Despite the major differences, there are a lot of commonalities between Catholicism and Judaism, like how they are both so steeped in tradition and both have a strong focus on G-d.
Jar of Fireflies want to know more! So interesting.
Sonya's Prep what do you want to know! Sukkot is such an awesome holiday! I was Reform before I was Orthodox and it wasn’t a big deal in my community, I feel like I totally missed out those years now!
@@jaroffireflies was interesting to learn that you were raised catholic
Your husband showing you how to say a hebrew word off camera was adorable❤❤❤😊
In Indiana we may choose a fire or bundle up :) how wonderful!
Chad Sameach! Happy Sukkot! I love Sukkot! I watched Sukkot morning live streaming services. Services from my shul were beautiful! I really enjoyed morning services today.
Happy Sukkot!
Thank you for sharing this tradition..
Thank you for watching!
Yay!! So excited to see your sukka, can't wait to see it finished with the pictures. Sukkot is my favourite holiday too!! I love the smell of the bamboo and the feeling of the gentle breeze and the white sheets on the walls with my kids decorations swaying, so peaceful.
Hooray for a fellow Sukkot lover! Your image of sukkot is so idyllic! I love it! I have the completed sukkah all set for Shabbat dinner filmed and ready for Thursday’s video 💜💜💜
In college, my friends and I would sleep in the Sukkah and it's one of my favorite memories. We were in Massachusetts, and it was very cold some nights.
Oh wow I bet that was cold! Here we are worried how hot it will be lol
This is a great tradition and sounds fantastic.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed!
So glad you said you sleep inside. I was imaging being here in Brisbane Australia with cane toads and snakes.
been getting my sukkah together this week and next, my FAVORITE holiday!!! lone it!!!🍋🌿🍋🌿🍋🌿🍋🌿
I love Sukkot so much too! Can’t wait to get our sukkah up!!!
I love your videos
Thank you!
Looks great! 💚
Thanks! 😄
My favorite holidays are Rosh Hashanah and Chanukah!
Those are fun ones!
Do you recommend the rigor if an Orthodox conversion to older people?
Shavua Tov Chana! Looking forward to your next video! How do you feel about promoting the Jewish cause and the Jewish way of life?
ITS ALMOST SUKKOT LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!!! favorite holiday!
Right?!? So much FUN!
Love this video...so interesting!! I love the bamboo as well.
Thank you! You'll see it all completed in Thursday's video! Thank you so much for watching!!! The Bamboo just seems so calming and other worldly to me, like it really transports me out of my house to somewhere else if that makes sense. Kind of nice after all the being cooped up at home with Covid
Sukkot has become a highlight for me, and a favourite time of year.
It’s a wonderful time for sure :)
Thank you for sharing your sukkah decoration
! To help my friends to pronounce chol ha moed ie In between days of Yom Tov ( holidays) is
chol ha Moed: pronounced a little like “roll ha Moe-Ed” but the r of toll is pronounced like clearing your throat!
Moadim léSimcha!
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! Great tips on pronunciation 💜 Chag Sameach!!!
This is awesome I've learnt something new 😀
Fantastic! 💜
Your Sukkah is beautiful! Love the bamboo!!!
Thank you so much!!! To me, this is the perfect sukkah! I just wish it had more kid art on the wall, but I didn't get on that fast enough this year lol But its not too late! Maybe we will add that to our list of things to do today :) Hope you are having a great week!
The bamboo was a great addition, the crafter in me wants to help you decorate. I just cleaned my craft room. God bless you and yours, love, jenwhite?
Thank you! It’s very fun to decorate :)
FYI I just spotted someone building a Sukkah from a simple kit sold by a site called Mitzvahland. I didn't know if you were aware of them. They look great and are easy to put together. When I looked at the site most were sold out but it's a thought for the future.
The bamboo rocks!
Yes it does! It is so pretty :)
It’s kinda like how we decorate our homes for Christmas ❤️ I mean I know it’s not the same as Christmas etc but you get the decorations out and re-configure them from what you did last year etc. and put more with it etc.
I have never seen a Sukkah before, but after googling some images, I have to say yours is especially beautiful. The bamboo roof looks amazing!
Wonder woman, you look so pretty and happy in your new video. I loved to hear some hebrew and your husband correcting you. Very cute! Reminds me very much of mine 😂.
Great video, thanks for the upload.
I giggle every time you say Wonder Woman 😂 thank you so much for your kind words about my sukkah! There is a concept in Judaism about beautifying a mitzvah, so that’s why I like to have a pretty sukkah :) that and if I’m going to spend a lot of time there, I want it to be visually nice lol. Glad you enjoyed my Hebrew 😂😂😂 I’m slowly learning!
@@jaroffireflies Were you able to safe your shoes? 😉
Annabelle yes! Turned out they were actually my husbands shoes, I wasn’t in a rush because I thought Bella had taken my muddy garden shoes which a crocs (so I wouldn’t be sad if they got ruined 😂😂😂)
@@jaroffireflies 😁 it doesn't matter just how many toys you buy for a dog/cat, the shoes of their owner will always be the best!
Annabelle so true!!!! 😂😂😂
This was such a fun video! Thank you for sharing this!
My pleasure! So glad you enjoyed it :)
Beautiful ideas!
Thank you!
@@jaroffireflies haha . I know this sounds weird considering sukkot is technically over BUT i do like to incorporate other idess for other occasions 😂
In Passover, we decorate with flowers and in Shavuot , we decorate with Greenery!
@@greenergrass4060 love that! And hey, flowers are appropriate for any occasion right? 😊
@@jaroffireflies absolutely 🌸🌻🏵🌹
REALLY NICE I WISH I COULD CELEBRATE ALL THE JEWISH FEASTS BUT LIVING WITH GENTILES SO UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT DO IT. ALSO I LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY IN AN APARTMENT WITH LIMITED SPACE. BUT YOURS IS FANTASTIC, REALLY BEAUTIFUL. LOVE THE FEASTS.
Thank you!
Nowadays string lights are used in home decor pretty often. They aren't "christmas" lights...as the bulbs are much smaller than Christmas lights. Now if it was colored lights, or red and green lighting, I could see the irony in that....but regular string fairy lights would look beautiful with the greenery at night...really cozy and low light, sort of romantic 😁
I would love to include lights like fairy lights in the Sukkah one year :) I think it would be so pretty
it’s cool that you show us what you do to set up and prepare for the holiday. some people would just tell you and not visually show you.
what happens if it rains? do you have a plastic covering over the roof?
I’m so glad you enjoy it this way :) I’m very visual so I guess that’s why I do it this way 😊 to answer your question, if it rains enough for the rain to come through the roof, then you’re no longer obligated to be inside the sukkah, so when that happens we move our meal indoors. I have to say though, that the times that’s happened over the years, it has been so disappointing for me!
your sukkah is beautiful. I think if I had one I'd want to keep it up all year round as my little private den :) the bamboo worked so well for a roof. thank you for sharing I learn so much from your videos.
Thank you so much for watching! I’m so glad you are learning so much :) The bamboo is amazing!!! It’s been so lovely to sit under :) If I had a bigger yard, I think I’d put up a gazebo or pergola or something like that :) I do love spending time outside 😊💜
Ok, Hannah, you have peaked my curiosity. Could you use a greenhouse for this purpose? The thought came to mind when you were talking about greenery. ♥️
Great question! No, I couldn’t. It needs to be a temporary structure and the roof must be made of natural materials:)
@@jaroffireflies very interesting. I love it!
@@houndlover870 sure thing!

You should tell the story of WHY you celebrate Sukkot😉
I have been watching many of your videos and have a question. It's been mentioned several times about your husband going to services three times a day, or about not being able to work during shiva or Sukkot for a week, etc. If a person has a job outside of the Jewish community, how can they take all that time off?
People just use all their vacation time and if needed they take off unpaid
Do you reuse the structure or take down and make a new one yearly?
@@cathy2142 great question! We reuse it. They are well made that we can give it away if we change to a larger one.
Do you have a how to build a Sukkah? And what you used.
I have what's in this video, and I will be filming again tomorrow (to post Thursday) about our Sukkah this year, but not really an exact how to but are so many resources online for requirements. You can check out Aish or Chabad websites.
How about knitting during the middle 3 days?
Personally that is something that I would not do, I am not positive if its technically allowed or not but I do not.
Can't you leave it on the patio? I mean it is nice to use a lot... even not on the feast...
It’s meant to be a temporary structure
Does the Sukkot remain ⬆️ year round?
Great question! No, we put it up shortly before the holiday and take it down after
So don’t you have to take a lot of days off? Do children have to fast?
Children do not fast. Sukkot is not a fast day, but a weeklong holiday with festive meals.
I like women who dress with modesty
