Jewish dad: you got enough food?
Dinner Guest: oh I’m fine really!
Jewish dad: I give you more food anyway.
Ok but this is the best part. 🖤

This channel has to be recognized as the most well put together and informative program about Jewish Orthodox Spirituality. And I must add, without the internet I would have never had the opportunity to have this privilege looked into the community. A sweet New year to everyone fill with honey and love and peace. Shalom

This family seems to have found a solid balance between tradition and modernity. Technology is a tool, not a lifestyle. They value knowledge of the world, and choose the ways they will be part of it.

Thank you for sharing these experiences. I myself am not Jewish and live in Williamsburg and often wonder what's like for our Jewish neighbors. Our communities are so close, our children play at the same playgrounds, yet we feel so separated from each other. Wouldn't it be great if we could share our holidays, like Sukkos, with each other as a way to break down these barriers? Regardless, I enjoyed meeting the Friedlander family and wish them a very "sweet" year ahead and sending warm regards from your neighbors in Williamsburg. 🙂

Today is November 11th. My great grandfather Dr. David Halpern was a medic in the British army gave his life in the invasion of Sicily in 1943 while his wife and my grandmother fled to Canada from England. We should remember the sacrifices these soldiers made so Jews and all people could be free to live without fear and have the right to self determination.

I am of Italian decent (parents are Sicilian), I am 1st generation 🇨🇦 and I thank you for your Family’s sacrifice. I thank Frieda for this channel and for the opportunity to learn about this different ideology that has fascinated me for at least 30 yrs now. Sometimes, I think that perhaps in a previous Life I may have been Jewish, 🙂 otherwise I cannot explain why this……attachment? 🤔
Again 🙏 Frieda, I’m a new Subscriber and binge watching your videos! Very insightful, so generous of you to do this.

I love love how you are putting frum people in a good light. Yes Boro Park is a sister community. I moved away from there and it has become more satmarish. There's more men that wear white socks, more women cover their shaitels. I'm okay with that. I have plenty of satmar friends BH. I am Zionist and they're cool about it.

It's healthy that children aren't exposed to the internet and to all the rubbish on TV, as long as they have informative, child-appropriate books to read. It lets them develop their imagination and their minds. The internet is great for studying and learning about the world, but for children, it should only be available under supervision. I could do without some (quite a few) of the restrictions, but otherwise, this seems like a lovely community to grow up in.

Born and raised in NJ I have many Jewish friends but none Hasidic. For some unexplained reason I have always thought of Hasidim as closed off and not wanting to associate with anyone outside of their community. The visit you had with this family was truly eye opening and heart warming. Thank you for such an informative video and please do more of them!

@melissamissyholmes4366 "not wanting to associate with anyone outside of their community." That's an interesting and partly true sentiment... but I think it is more an uncertainty, a slight fear, of things different, things unfamiliar. There is actually a part of the brain (we know this from neuroscience) that sets off an alarm when we perceive something different to what we are familiar with.

This is fascinating to watch on so many levels. Your videos are very well done. The questions you ask bring interesting points and good conversations. It’s admirable that this family opened up their homes and sukkah for you and for the camera. You are very kind and respectful of them. I noticed you refrained from singing along with the men. I wonder if this was difficult for you to do.
Keep up your good work. Excellent material.

As for your question about not singing - I tend to code switch. With non-religious friends and family I sing without ever even thinking about it. But with religious people I don’t sing almost as if from muscle memory. I do find that while doing these videos, being relegated to female roles and spaces sometimes makes me really sad and brings back memories of exclusions that I found really difficult from when I was young. But you know, at the end of the day I chose not to live in this community so I go home and I sing to my heart’s content. So the short periods of restrictions while I’m there doesn’t bother me much.

Dear Frieda, thank you very much for this series. For me, it is a glance in the world, which I don’t know, but I would like to know. I am a Jew from Russia. Probably you have some idea what this means. I believe, we are described as a secular jew. We had grown in a country, where any kind of religious weren’t allowed. So there were no traditions, Holidays or anything else, except the nationality in our passports. Which, I believe, was created only for the discrimination. Now I am trying to find the connection between us, the jewish people. But I am, personally, don’t feel or see any relationship, specifically with the the orthodox groups. I like your way to show us their world, and let me have my own opinion about it. I was absolutely, fascinated with Pearl, I apologize, if I got her name incorrectly. What a wise and very attractive person. Thank you very much one more time!

What a lively and communicative family that was...I am sure that they would have happily engaged in more conversatin with some open end questions i.e.: Oh your the only girl? What are some things you do that your brothers do not? Which things that your brothers do would you like to do as well? For the boys: What does your typical day look like? What is different for you during the Holy Days? How long did it take to put up the sukkah? Who did what and why was that so?
How long has the couple been married? How many guests come to visit the sukkah in a day?
I am sure you can think of many more open end questions that you can apply in various situations that you encounter on your interesting journeys.
    All the best for you❣️
