Conklin Nib/Feeds are a crap shoot. I have the All American and paid Full retail. I have been through 3 nib/feed combos and 1 nib/feed combo (all JOWO) and all randomly skip. The pen feels great in the hand and writes (when not randomly skipping) really well. There is some endemic issue with the nib/feed combos. I am not the only person to report this random skipping issue. Jinhao (I have 3 different Jinhao pens), write out of the box. Why would I pay that much for a dodgy Conklin (which is made in. China BTW, Jinhao make the All American) when I can get a Wing Sung 630 Piston Filler or an Asvine P20 Piston filler for a quarter of the price which write beautifully out of the box? FWIW, I would not buy another Conklin at any price.
So your conclusion is spot on, the Jinhao is both better value and less likely to give you any trouble with the nib/feed combo (and you can buy a complete Jinhao FP for the price of a Conklin/JOWO nib/feed). Jinhao, along with a number of Chinese FP manufacturers, make some excellent pens at an incredible price point. Since the Chinese have upped their QC, they are killing what used to be the $100-$300 FP market with their generally excellent $10-$50 pens.

I happy to get your input here. I do agree with you with this caveat, over the last few years I have had the same experience with several pens that are much more expensive than the Conklins from much heralded pen companies. Pens with 14k nibs! that cost hundreds of dollars. In the case of Conklin, I have simply contacted the dealer and they got me a new nib and housing from them that does write well. I also have heard anecdotally that they have better quality control, but that there may be a lot of older pens in the pipeline, which may explain why their pens were discounted so heavily, but less so now. That said, one of my favorite pens is the Conklin Word Gauge Pen. The nib that I got on that wrote very smoothly out of the box and I love the big ink window etc. But it is not a cheap pen. FYI, I had a Wing Sung Vacuum filler that completely fell apart after one use. Not all Chinese pens are equal in quality, although the quality is improving.
