    Thanks, as always, for the great review! I have been really enjoying the Jinhao 100s too. They seem to be refining and improving it nicely. I look forward to more improvements to this line in 2022. I just ordered the new vermillion one, that looks very classy and reminds me of my grail pen the Pilot custom urushi vermillion.

    A very interesting Parker - Jinhao analysis and comparison, thanks to Chris' professionalism and the fountain pens of his magnificent collection. I have a small number of Jinhao Centennials and I have verified that they are the same size as the Parker Duofold edition for the 100th anniversary of 2021 sold in Italy for 1200 euros. Very emblematic. It should be noted that the Chinese produce these copies with their own specific brand as a respectful homage to the original product. Beautiful choice of ink. Thanks for everything Chris! Happy New Year!

    I've been wanting one of the Jinhao 100 Centennial Big Red pens with the logo too and couldn't find them on Ebay either. I'm so glad you reviewed this pen and the showed the Ali Express store that has it. I just went and purchased one from them. Nice to end the old year with a pen I've been wanting! The Duofold is my favorite style. Thanks so much!

    What do I like? Easy answer is "Yes." I'm pretty happy with almost all the pens I own. Not that enthusiastic about extra fine nibs, but they have had their use. Only one I don't like at all is a copy of the Hero 616. Yes a fake of a generally poor quality pen that's virtually unusable as a fake.
    I have a real soft spot for Esterbrook pens of the past, but my absolute favorite is the Wahl-Eversharp from the pre Parker buyout era, if you made me have to choose a brand.
    Of my newer pens, I can say that I haven't found a Jinhao I didn't like. I don't have a 100 yet, but I plan to, and plan to get one for a friend as well.
    I appreciate your videos and views. Thanks for sharing them!

    Ali Express is definitely the place to get these right now. The price is significantly less and the selection is much better. The copying is not always a bad thing. It's definitely not the same experience when you buy a cheap copy. But ..it gives you an idea of the type, size and shape of pen that you might like. I really don't think that anyone who wanted a Duofold ever decided to get a Jinhao 100 instead. I would bet that someone, somewhere bought a Jinhao 100 and decided to save up for the real thing.

    I've recently taken the plunge and bought my first two Jinhao Centennials. I haven't inked them up yet, but based on my previous experience with the brand, I expect them both to write well right out of the box. I'll probably add more, because a local pen shop got in a shipment with colors I'd had my eye on for a while. It's just great to be able to handle them while choosing my favorite colorways. That being said, I got a Moonman/Majohn A1 Nighthawk which I inked up with Lennon Tool Bar Pouchong Tea. I was pleasantly surprised with a) how smooth it writes and b) how the clip doesn't get in the way I'd feared. (The Nighthawk is currently the only colorway for Gen2 A1 pens which are clipless.) Now I'm sorely tempted to get the yellow and red ones I'd been eyeing. Moonman also came out with the T5 in several colors and a very subtle fireworks design on the barrel. 2022 is looking promising already!

    I have one doubt ,are these pens made of celluloid?? i could see some listings on flipkart in which it is mentioned celluloid fountain pen. The pens are the same ones shown in this video with that engraving on the barrel.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  3 місяці тому +2

      I don't believe these are celluloid. I have many vintage celluloid pens. These are not like those. These are made from same acrylic as the other 100s.

    The Jinhao converter that is fitted with this pen is a little flimsy. It had been my understanding that the International Standard converters would fit this pen until I read a user comment on Amazon "Schmidt K5 didn't fit." Has anyone else tried the international standard converters with this pen?

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 роки тому +1

      I find these Jinhao converters equal to or better than Schmidt. Your seller may have put in a lower quality converter.

    Thanks for your review. I have found that the steel nibs have become very comparable to gold nibs. It is a question of economics. Having a well functioning pen with a steel nib and spending $$$ less it a big plus.
    Do I have new pens with gold nibs? Yes. Are they better than steel? It depends on what you expect. My Pilot 743 with a gold soft fine nib acts very smoothly and provides bounce and line variation. If I am looking for a pen nib with little to no variation, steel works fine, as well as stiff gold nibs.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 роки тому +2

      I agree. I have not found a good soft steel nib. Gold nibs work better for that. Have a Great New Year.

    Hi Chris, thank you for the video! I have a couple Jinhao 100a pens that I know are similar. I really like them. I tried to swap the Jinhao F nib for a Kaigelu EF nib and they do not seem compatible. The Kaigelu slips right out and will not stay tight. Should it work? Any advice appreciated and thank you.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 роки тому +2

      I do not have a 100A. From what I see, looks like same #6 nib that the 100 use. I just swapped in a Kaigelu EF nib into a 100 & it fits just like the original Jinhao. Need to insure nib is seated exactly like original nib. Happy New Year.

  • @shadow-Sun

    I get that jinhao are "copies" or fakes lookalikes of established brands but here is the thing I have TWO junhao 159 which is clearly a knock off of Montblancs 149 and truth be told the Jinhao's are excellent value and pretty damn good the materials used the design and execution and the writeability are all very good and this in a £10 per pen offering which frankly is amazing . The montblanc 149 is around £800 new and £400 plus used and frankly the quality is excellent but not enough to justify the asking price , howver factor in the desireability of the brand (montblanc) and it becomes the consumers choice . Personally I enjoy being able to buy any numbers Jinhao fountain pens and others that look very much like more expensive offerings from established brands and write perfectly well £10 for a jinhao 159 vs £800 for a montblanc 149 for exactly the same look and to be brutally truthful pretty good quality is a no brainer . So far I have 3 jinhao fountain pens all are excellent and perform brilliantly and the quality of the "resin " is amazing and in my hands feels as good as branded offerings that cost 10 x the price .
    So this makes me wonder ? how over priced are the branded versions ? even allowing for western labour rates etc ... anyone who has not bought a jinhao should do so they are brilliant little pens .

    • @chrisrap52

      Profit margins, marketing. Luxury gods have the most markup of any products, could be 10-50x the cost of goods. Jinhaos are sold at very low markup, no marketing costs added on. Enjoy that we can get these great pens at a great price.
