It makes me disproportionately happy every time you say "she just cut off 7" of hair!" or "that was a good 3" of hair," because you clearly understand what an inch is. I went to a salon and asked for an inch maybe two off, to get rid of the split ends and I even showed her with my fingers. She literally took five to seven inches off and I cried.
I had an experience like this. Tips of my hair hit my waistband in the back. A stylist told her to get off the dead ends keep the length. Warned that my hair shrinks a lot because I have a sneaky, very subtle curl pattern. When she was done, my hair dusted the tops of my shoulders. I paid, totally in shock, and walked out and began weeping. She just kept going, even as I looked in in terror and told her it was way, way too short.
Ugh, similar thing happened to me a few months ago. Wanted 4 inches off of my hip length hair, even showed her the cut off point too. She cut like 16 inches and my hair became barely shoulder length 😭😭 I literally went through the 5 stages of acceptance

HE CUT OFF 8 INCHES! and it looked absolutely horrendous. i asked for layers and he gave me the CHOPPIEST hair you will ever see. i cried for 2 days straight and went to school in a ponytail for 2 months.

Ugh omg I get this. I went to Supercuts because my dad refused to take me to a salon to get a bob. I said mid-neck, showed him where…. I got earlobe length and I cried so much. Imagine being 8 year old me showing up with “boy hair” after having really really long hair
I did Brad's butterfly cut last week and am stoked! I have very thick hair and bangs so perhaps I could have just done this cut. Nevertheless, I have been cutting my own hair on and off for years. The difference with now is that I now have a style and not just a hair cut. I am 60 and it is the rock-chick look I always wanted but was afraid to do. NO FEAR
As someone who did this style back in 2007-2008 and loved it, that first girl looked amazing. The “missed” spots of hair dye only made her color better, like pink highlights on the deep purple. Beautiful.
aaah I love accidental ombre or highlights. one time I dyed my hair purple with Crazy Color by Renbow. Whatever happened, I ended up either some hot pink going through it. Fave hair colour so far. But that was 10 years ago and now I'm almost 27 and I'm supposed to be an adult, so i can't have as much fun with my hair anymore. BUT I'm taking care of my hair now with the hopes of having mermaid hair for my 30th bday before I get "too old" lol
It makes me laugh, as a person who NEVER gets my hair done professionally, i've been cutting my own hair into what is apparently called a wolf cut for 20 years...and now it has a name and is a cool haircut. I avoid professionals b/c they botch my hair anyway, at least when i mess it up, it was free. who woulda thunk.
Same! I’ve been cutting my hair for 20 odd years as well and lol one day my sister came up to me and said your haircut has a name now and that’s she was going to try it. It’s mildly amusing and only a tad frustrating because before it got a name and became cool, she would scoff at me doing it myself.
I've had my hair professionally cut 3 times in my whole life, and I thought until my mid/late teens that cutting one's own hair was the norm and people only went to salons for special occasions (like balls, weddings, graduations etc) unless they were really rich. Kind of a shock to learn that a LOT of people regularly go to salons lol, we always did at-home haircuts in my family. Anyway, the last time I went to a salon I was hugely disappointed. Was doing a pretty major hair change, wanted a super layered style and was scared to do it on my own. I found a salon that I felt like I could trust, they did some kind of alternative stuff which is what I wanted, so I chose them despite it being a bit more pricey than I'd like. Showed the lady about a dozen inspo pics to let her know what I wanted..... and yet she somehow managed to just give me a Karen bob. I got her to take a little more off but I was still hugely unhappy with it so the next day I stood in my bathroom chopping my own damn layers, and despite having zero hair cutting experience I was pretty damn pleased with the result! Definitely not going to pay a professional again.
This haircut already had a name (the shag) but now it just has a cooler name lol 60s and 70s cuts are very in rn and they're diy friendly compared to trying to ombre it or do a clean short bob on y your own.
I have hair past my waist and did the one ponytail all the way at the front of my head and cut off over 4 inches and the layers came out perfect without sacrificing the overall length, and instantly brought all my curls back, because they were so weighed down with the weight of my hair. I will literally never cut my hair any other way again!
Okay, I need to try this! My hair is the same length and my curls are being weighed down currently. Update: I did it! I ended up cutting way more than I planned, about a foot worth of hair, but I love it!! My hair hasn't felt this light and bouncy since high school and I forgot how curly my curls could be when they weren't weighed down!
My hair is down to my knees. I need to cut off 18 inches just to get it to my lower back. It's so ugly, it's so weighted down, because my hair is thick. I used to cut my own hair, but then once gave myself a concussion when I accidentally stabbed myself in the face with the scissors. After that I stopped. Haha
Your advice on wolf cut/shag allowed me to give myself the haircut I've always wanted to have when I've gotten it cut professionally/better than any haircut I've gotten. SUPER layered and I'm really happy with it!
I followed it to, and felt the same way. Like every time I go to the salon and tell them what I want, they never do. It was like "I'm in control now" and I love it.
@@cassierainier6786 exactly!! I can understand that hairdressers want to be careful, but this haircut is really what I'm envisioning when I ask them to "fuck it up with layers." Amazing to know that now i can just do this every time!
I love the girl in the beginning. What a risk taker and she’s so courageous. I think she ended up with a great haircut and that color looks phenomenal on her.❤❤ rock on baby girl!
Brad I used all three of your hair cut tutorials (length, wolf/shag cut and curtain bangs) my hair looks amazing and it saves me so much money at the salon. I’m currently living my best 70’s shag life thanks to your super easy to follow tutorials.
I am a retired hairstylist and your videos are very entertaining!! I did that same haircut back in the 80's, on myself and others. It was not called the wolf cut, but was called the Farah, worn by the actress Farah Fawcett from the show Charlie's Angels. I see here it has made a comeback!😊
"I'm sure you look incredible..." - Me, lying in bed with my satin bonnet, ugly pyjamas and swollen red eyes from crying almost the entire evening up to now... thank you, Brad... for making me smile a little bit, every time I watch your videos 🥺 EDIT: It's been a while, but I still want to say thank you to everyone who made me feel less alone, to everyone who cared about me. For the first time in my life, I had the courage to cut my hair by myself thanks to one of your tutorials, and I must say it was the best decision i made, the best haircut i got in my life, luckily i blended the layers perfectly and it turned out gorgeous. I just wanna say thank you very much, keep up the good work ❤
I’m really proud of the way that she Took notes literally. Her hair looks adorable on her this is a great style for her. the color is really pretty for her complexion even though she may need to do it one more time to hit all those spots.❤
Having curly hair I can tell you that it was easier to hide the uh-uh cuts. I tooooortured my hair growing up. I even cut it myself a time or forty. I still experiment with dyes and cut my own hair somewhat. Between salon visits lol. So, like I said, curly hair can look great with almost any cut.
Hello Brad, you probably don't read the comments to this video anymore, but here goes: for the longest time I was afraid to come anywhere close to my hair with scissors, but after binging a few of your videos I gathered the courage today and cut my own hair, giving myself bangs and all (plain old curtain bangs and straight cut everywhere else). I was a little shy and did not cut to the length I would have liked (left it an inch or two longer but still cut about five inches), in case I scew up royally, but it turned out good. The bangs are perfect and while the straight cut is not very straight, you don't notice the unevenness at all once the hair is dry. For my first try I am very proud and it is thanks to you. Now I will leave it for a few weeks, repeat the process a couple more times to get my hands sure and steady and then I will try your wolf cut that has intrigued me for ages now. Until then, baby steps. Thank you so much, you are an inspiration!
Brad's wolf haircut tute was super helpful. i havent' cut my hair myself in years, but I was tired of telling stylists I wanted tons of layers and only getting them at the bottom of my hair. so I said fuck it, watched his tutorial and went in on my hair with my good shears and thinning scissors. Best haircut I've had in years. So thanks Brand Mondo!
Why do they never want to do any layers? I always ask for prayers and they're always like, how about this one layer that's about a centimeter shorter than the end and then I'll straighten in so that you can't see even that.
@@stillmagic714 I had a hairstylist that has a vibe like brad and he does actual beautiful layers and its amazinggg ah I guess ppl like brad are just born to be hairstylists eh

I gave myself the worst shaggy mullet 2 years ago and only just grew it out and perfected the choppy, wolfie cut, so yes please go to a professional, the 2 year learning curve aint worth it 🤣
Oh my goodness! How did your comment attract these comments? How do they pick where to put them? Bizarre.... Nevermind. They're on every comment it seems but still, why this video?
I used Brad’s tutorial to do the shag haircut and it was soooo easy and it was the best haircut I’ve EVER had. A bit after I had to go to a professional to trim some fried hair and I asked them to do it like I had it before and they failed miserably, so if you go to a professional make sure they are trained well in this cut!

My 8 year old curly haired child LOVES watching Brads videos with me and was so in awe by the hair cut on the last lovely lady that it is now her favorite cut to have. It's crazy cause I remember having this exact hair cut in high-school and being made fun of cause it wasn't what was cool at the time. Glad a nice variety if cuts is popular now.
The first woman, sorry I didn't catch her name, has such an amazing and intriguing personality. She's soft and mild but there's clearly a chaotic nature to her and serious BDE 😆
Cutting my own hair gives me so much anxiety, but the other day I actually cut a strand of hair off cause it was just a bit my hairdresser missed and I was fed up with tucking it behind my ear. I was really scared but I think it was a step in the right direction for beating anxiety one day!

The trick for the face framing is brilliant and IDK why I never thought of it and why people wouldn't include it. It adds so much and makes it waaay easier to frame the face than trying to just cut at a sharp angle.
You should make a video reviewing hairstyles, cuts, and trends through the years. By the way I love your videos sooo much! You are absolutely hilarious, and I could spend hours just binge watching your videos. I have naturally curly hair and your tips have really helped me!

Much Love BRAD!! 🥰🥰🥰 I did cut my hair because how can you watch all these transformations and NOT wanna get in on the fun!! Went pretty well 🥳

I have been licensed for 30 years but I left the profession to do home and auto upholstery but Ian so tempted to do this cut on myself - I have had the same length my entire life- I have bad ass extremely sharp expensive shears and I’m sitting here thinking why the hell not . I’m 56 and ready to get some weight off my hair - I’m praying to the hair God and May have to have a couple shots of fireball to go through with it .
That shag tutorial is a godsend!!! My mom and I used it to cut each other’s hair when salons were closed/not safe to go to and both of us turned out with killer hair! She has curly hair and I have wavy. It’s rare for us to both find a tutorial that works for our hair types.
I did the wolf cut on myself and it turned out great! 👍 My hair was getting too long and weighed down, and this new cut gives me the volume I was lacking and desperately wanted.
I used Brad's tutorial (I even wet my hair first) and the results were very cool! My hair is long, wavy and naturally almost black with grey streaks (I'm 44!). So happy with the results, the weight of my hair had been pulling the waviness down and it was a nightmare to style. But with Brad's wolf cut it looks great, is really easy to style and I can still put it up for work! Love you Brad!
“I’m sure you look incredible. I wish I could see your faces.” Me looking down at my phone with a double chin and no makeup while sitting on the toilet pooping…yes, Brad, I look amazing. You’d def want to witness this, thank you.😂
😂😂😂 girl. I freaking love you. But same. Minus the pooping. Lmao I'm sitting in my jeep, double chin, no make up, just dropped my kid off at school and it's currently 9am lmao
I really wish Brad would do something about naturally thick and curly hair! I struggle finding anything like my hair type on what colour, style and haircuts work!
Honestly? I have really long curly hair and I did a wolf cut on it but only took a few inches for each ponytail (I did two) and it gave me such great layers.
I have the same issue, I’ve got curly hair. for me it works on dry brushed out hair. you just have to be careful bc curly/wavy hair gets shorter after washing it
That was my haircut beginning in the mid 1970s. So funny to see people doing it today. I'd had waist length hair but got it cut to like mid back in order to have a long shag. I used to put 2 boxes of hot rollers in my hair, takevthem out when cool,, bend over at the waist and brush it out then do a big hairflip and use some hair spray right away. I' had awesome layers and could get great volume with that method. I remember I used some clariol hair treatment that went in the hotroller water and I had another treatment to put on my hair, they had a great aroma. Despite using hot rollers almost daily and putting a lot of acessories in my hair my hair was in great shape. I kept that same haircut (admittedly too long before a new style) until like 1985, lol.
The only thing I've learned from any/all of Brad's tutorials is to SPEND THE EXTRA $$ and go to a professional! I recently went from medium length to a pixie, and I'm getting an undercut next week. No way in hell am I doing that myself like I did pre-Brad tutorials in 2017
Haha it's the opposite for me, I haven't been to a salon in years... I've been cutting my hair since I was 13 and Brad just gave the tools and confidence to do it better :DD
Last time I went to a salon, I was charged $120 and came out with a crack mullet. That is a mullet that looks like the hairdresser was on crack when she cut it, and you come out with a mullet that makes you look like you smoke crack. And it destroyed my curl pattern. That was the last of a series of horrendous cuts that has gone on through almost my entire life. Now my teenage daughter cuts my hair. She also has curly hair, so she understands textured hair better than the majority of hairdressers in Australia.
The last girl, when she pulled the hair up, after the face framing, is actually called, an, "Umbrella section!" (Sam Villa taught me that!) Cosmetologist since 2007! Love You Brad!!😘😘 The all did an AMAZING job!! ✂️💇🏼♀️😍
Your tutorials are so great!!! 46 year old lady here that was too scared to go to school to cut hair back in the day. I cut my daughters hair now and with great confidence because of people like you!!!!!! ❤️
I recently did this cut but I followed a tutorial by another hairstylist named Paul. He did it with TWO ponytails and it creates more layers in the back which I love. If anyone is going for more dramatic layering and extra volume, I'd recommend his video tbh!

I did the curtain bangs yesterday on my channel I like it I just feel like since I always put my hair behind my ears it curves the wrong way lol😅😂
@@Sunny_fires how funny, I have been letting my bangs grow and have done the curtain bangs…
As someone who did this style back in 2007-2008 and loved it, that first girl looked amazing. The “missed” spots of hair dye only made her color better, like pink highlights on the deep purple. Beautiful.
I liked that it wasn't all the same shade the way boxed color can make it look. It worked for her.
She’s my best friend and trust me it looked so stunning in person!!!:)
@@alij1876 what's her name and how long have you been friends for then

aaah I love accidental ombre or highlights. one time I dyed my hair purple with Crazy Color by Renbow.

@@ibelieveinyourgalaxy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was a cool cut and had a name before ('shag'), it's just become fashionable again under a new name.
This haircut already had a name (the shag) but now it just has a cooler name lol 60s and 70s cuts are very in rn and they're diy friendly compared to trying to ombre it or do a clean short bob on y your own.
The first girl: that new color and cut brought out her beautiful eyes!I just went to a salon and had over 12" taken of into layers. Love it!
I have hair past my waist and did the one ponytail all the way at the front of my head and cut off over 4 inches and the layers came out perfect without sacrificing the overall length, and instantly brought all my curls back, because they were so weighed down with the weight of my hair. I will literally never cut my hair any other way again!
:0
My hair I under my shoulders! Basically a bobmbut my pony tail looks so fricking nice
My hair was the same length and after I did that tutorial, now it's shoulder length and thr layers are backwards. I clearly went wrong somewhere.

Oh yeah, or even thick and wavy hair. It’s easy to hide eh cuts, and anything that isn’t straight will just curl itself anyway
@@sunsetskye483 hah yeah the point is THICK lol. my hair would show a bad cut cuz it is not dense (but less so than straight hair)

@@cherrybomb6451 So awesome!
@@stillmagic714 I had a hairstylist that has a vibe like brad and he does actual beautiful layers and its amazinggg ah

I wish I could get this kind of hair cut, but my hair is naturally wavy, but when it’s wet it’s curly, so no matter what something would screw it up 😭
I have the same issue, I’ve got curly hair.
for me it works on dry brushed out hair. you just have to be careful bc curly/wavy hair gets shorter after washing it
cut it dry. the shape changes a ton when wet so it’s easier to cut curly or wavy hair dry
That's awesome :). Always loved that 70's hair. As someone who has to wash their hair every other day, that's all just too much work for me :(
