  • We continue this series with part 2 of the bow re-build with a Matthews V3X. There are many ways to setup a bow and this is our preferred order. We like to level the sight after the initial tune. This is a basic paper tune and more tuning will be utilized in the future with broadheads.
    My Spot Hogg does not have a first axis and I briefly mention my current understanding of it. This seems to be different across sight companies of who has an adjustable first axis but I wanted to mention as Black Gold is one example of a company that highlights their first axis adjustment.

    I like this series. I have been bow hunting 3 years now. I just bought a press and want to set up my first bow for next season. Like you, I’m trying to find a V3x 29 but LH. this series gives me some direction and confidence.

      That is great to hear! Pumped you are getting into working on your bow as it’s a ton of fun and something you can help others out with too. Buying a press was game changer for me as I can swap and tune bows for myself and friends without extra costs and learn how it works. I was always needing to run to a shop and a press is very helpful. That will be a sweet setup with the 29. It looks like those are a little faster than the 33. What led you to the 29 specifically? -Kyle

      @@TrueLineOutdoors I have a short dl. I’ve been measured at 26.5-27. I also am a bit of a speed freak and my short dl doesn’t help with that so I like to capture as much speed as I can with my equipment. I’ll be coming back with questions I’m sure.

      @@jpjr6757 Got it! That 29 sounds perfect then! I can’t believe how nice the V3X is to shoot really enjoying it. I’m still learning and it takes practice but I was intimidated at first and now realize it is not that complicated if you have a good setup and tools. With time and patience you can definitely get your own setups going. Happy to help with any questions for sure man!

    I have two Mathews bows and I tuned them to get a bullet holes but then when I broadhead tuned them with iron Will 125s I had to move the rest so far down that now when I stick a level on an arrow the bubble is half way through the down slope line. Do you think there’s something I’m doing wrong or is this just where they like to be to fly the same?

    • @TrueLineOutdoors
      @TrueLineOutdoors  Рік тому

      Hello! So with the Iron Wills you are hitting high compared to field points?
      Also have you tried other fixed heads and had similar results? One idea could be to raise nocking point if you have to really lower the rest a ton. Last question when you nock an arrow is it sitting parallel to Berger hole? -Kyle

    Thank you for your time.
    qq. For cam timing you are putting a twist into the cam cable, (i.e. not the string) for the side/cam that is hitting first?

    • @TrueLineOutdoors
      @TrueLineOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      You got it! The cable not the string is where I twist and for this example it was either a half or full twist I cannot recall exactly. If you use a Matthews they also have cam timing holes you can check to see if you are close without drawing bow back. Mine are slightly off when the bow is actually timed so I wouldn’t go off this for good but it’s a way you can check it real quick. Hope you can get yours all setup. Let me know if you need anything else. -Kyle

      @@TrueLineOutdoors Thank you, put a half twist in the cable/cam that was hitting first, now the gap has moved to the other side :) is there a rule of thumb if you have a gap which cam is the lesser of two evils? V3 27

    • @TrueLineOutdoors
      @TrueLineOutdoors  Рік тому

      Oh boy! It sounds like you are really close.. How do your timing holes on the cam look? Also do you know if ATA is at 27? You are a half twist from being perfect how is it shooting? I haven’t noticed one cam being more or less sensitive. I have heard you can fine tune with other methods if within half a twist but personally haven’t had to do so. Mine isn’t exact either but is shooting really well and I was satisfied where they were hitting.

      @@TrueLineOutdoors timing holes are close, string is at actually pretty centered since the half twist and then me reverting the twist. Will check Ata, also just noticed limb gap appears different, like one screw is tighter then the other. I'm going to roughly measure , turn down to contact and check on the draw board again.
      Do appreciate the help 🙏
