- Many players in the league are well-known for lying about their real height. A few of them are really obvious, but some others are pretty sneaky and overlooked. Here are four players whose official listed heights are terribly off from their actual heights.

Barkley was listed at 6'6" but really was just 6'4".. nevertheless he played like he was 6'10"
I don't think that's actually true. There are plenty of photos of Barkley standing next to MJ and they are close to the same height, with Barkley looking slightly taller in most photos. More conclusive though, was this recent photo of Dwayne Johnson, Barkley and Shaq...Dwayne is 6'4" and Barkley towers over him. I reckon Barkley was closer to 6'7" in shoes when he was in the NBA, maybe even 6'8" which makes a lot more sense when you see how he used to dominate down low and the ridiculous amounts of rebounds etc. Anyway, check out this link:

You can also see in the East All-star photo where Ewing is flanked by Pippen and Barkley. Barkley is the same height as Pippen (6'7") and only looks 4"-5" shorter than Ewing (7'0").

Barkley is 6’6 in shoes and 6’4 . 75 barefoot . The same height as Jordan . 99 percent of nba players listed heights are shoe heights and rounded up . Very few players are listed as their barefoot heights .

No, players have just gotten shorter. The NBA is a smaller game today. Big men are 6'9. Every 6'11 player (Which there seems to be a popular measurement) are always around 6'9, maybe a little more. Just look at REAL 7 footers, it's rare to see them as agile and quick as a 6'10 guy, a 7'2 or 7'3 guy seem's awkward and goofy, which made Wilt such a oddity, he would be 7'3 in today's NBA, yet quick as a forward when young. Hakeem Olajuwon was only 6'9 but was listed at almost 6'11.

They say that Kareem and Bill Walton used to lessen their official height. Kareem was listed as 7'2, but they said was closer to 7'4 or 7'5. Bill Walton was similar (7'2 or 7'3 instead of the 6'11 he was listed as). Its kinda weird to lessen your height but whatever I guess it worked for them.
Believe me, Durant is 6'11. When he stood next to 7 footer Steve Adams, it looked like he was only an inch shorter. I bet he is 6'11.

Great vid but for those of you who are wondering, Russell Westbrook is indeed 6'3. The reason Liliard looked so short is because he's 6'1 and his shoes are made for him to be low to the court. Westbrooks shoes have a thicker sole. Also, Harden isn't really 6'5. He's barely 6'4. John Wall is also 6'4. Curry is 6'3. I believe that Harden and Lillard's height were given a boost so that Harden could appear more like a SG, and Lillard probably just wanted to be on par with the rest of the PG in the game.

I saw that photo of westbrook and lillard before and yeah westbrook is at least 2 inches taller, but i saw a video of westbrook joking around with curry in the 2017 all star game and they were both the same height.

North Americans have always had a weird obsession and insecurity with height for some reason. Its a real fickle part of u.s. culture that more height makes a guy more of a “real man” or stud regardless of his character. Whether it’s with the nba or with american women or just trying to get hired at a job. It’s a real subconscious fault but americans tend to associate taller with being better or more worthy. Even athletes can’t escape superficial u.s. standards.

I don't really know for a fact, but watching him from highlights he looks shorter than C's that are listed at 6'11 i.e. Deandre Jordan, Demarcus Cousins. Gorgui Dieng is also listed at 6'11 but KAT looks shorter than him as well.

You should add Blake griffin because he definitely isn't 6'10". In a pic with Amare Stoudemire for, "The Educators 2" griffin is at least 2 inches shorter than Amare. Amare also measured at 6'8.5" (no shoes) before the draft, but I'm sure he grew a bit since he was drafted at 18. I think Blake is probably like Kevin Love, around 6'8"

At a recent basketball training, my 6'2" 13 year old son, was being trained by a former college player listed at 6'8". The trainer was big, but we all agreed that he wasn't quite as big as my wife's brother, who is 2 meters. Two meters translates to about 6'6.5" So, if my son grows to the same height as my wife's brother, he can probably list himself at 6'8". Which should help with college coaches.

I had a pick-up game with Kenny Anderson in '91. He was listed at 6'3" - he was maybe 5'10" at most - he had quite the game though and it sometimes seems a lefty with really good skills has a bit of an advantage for some reason, IMO.
Kenny Anderson has always been listed at 6'0" (even though in high school someone listed him at 6'1", but that's because the hype around him was so crazy that the press was doing anything to hype him even more). I don't recall seeing him listed at 6'3" anywhere
@@AndreaBaixinho HAH - I recall him being listed at 6'3". Recalling our pick-up game so many years ago, I think he was about 5'9". The game has changed - less tall players make up for it with quickness and ball-handling. He was a great player, no matter what the program listed as his height.

Excellent video of players heights. I've always knew that Kevin Garnett was easily over 7' ft. tall. He once stood next to Tim Duncan when standing next to hm. Heck, both are extremely tall guys anyway. Garnett clearly seemed to have had as much as a 3 in. height advantage over Duncan from a photo despite Tim Duncan often being listed as 7' ft. tall. Another one I can think of was Julius Dr. J Erving. He once stood next to Clyde "The Glide" Drexler from one photo shoot. And unless Drexler has recently shrunk in height (which is possible) over the years, Dr. J was clearly taller than Drexler. Either Dr. J is more 6' 8" tall. Or Clyde is more of a solid 6' 6" tall.
My understanding is Kevin Garnett went on paper as 6’11” but he’s over 7 foot. He didn’t want to be lumped into the 5 because he was a 7 footer.
I remember seeing he and Rasheed Wallace next to each other and KG was taller although sheed was listed over 7 foot
Charles Barkley. Was listed as a 6'6" PF, until moving to SF in Phoenix at the end of his Career. Ran into him at Leeds when he was visiting, guy wasn't taller than 6'4". Of course, this was later so his spine could have compacted over the years.
Really just makes his ability to Rebound all the more impressive. Hell, at 6'6" he was an impressive PF, at 6'4" it's just ridiculous.
He's a lot more hunched now that he's older. Even toward the end of his career you could see the flexion in his spine. In his peak NBA days he was closer to 6'7" if you ask me. Still, even at 6'7" the guy played like a seven footer.

He was always overweight since his playings days . Today Barkley is very fat . Nobody questioned Jordan fake 6’6 listed height ( shoe heights aren’t legit . Shoes aren’t part of the body ) because his slender build . Slender people look taller and fat people look shorter. Barkley look 6’4 to most people because he is fat . But in reality he is closer to 6’5 than 6’4.

We had some stretching of height at our local high school, with the program adding 4, 5, even 6 inches.
I sat behind the bench for a Celtics game in 1985 and was surprised to see how tall Bill Walton was. He was way taller than the other Celtic big men. Although listed at 6-11, he was at least an inch taller than 7-0 Robert Parish.

I get that an inch is 2.5 cm and therefore, only giving full inches on height measurements is just inaccurate from a metric perspective. But listing someone 5 or more cm from his actual height is just pathetic and...sorry but...unprofessional !
Why would you give players a chance to lie on one of the most important facts about their physical gifts?
Imagine Usain Bolt telling people he's 6'2" and then seeing him tower over everyone around him, even known figures whose height you somehow know from somewhere. That would be called dishonest and wrong!
In soccer, you take off the shoes, have them stand up straight and read the ruler ^^
if a player grows, update their size.
How hard can it be????
