- When we refer to how "smart" an NBA player is, we usually talk about their basketball IQ. But...how smart are they off the court? Academically?
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Wow Pau Gasol speak 5 languages and here comes Kawhi that speaks 5 words.
Under rated comment
burdagol finale so true 😂😂😂
I know it’s a joke and all but some backstory of why Kawhi is so withdrawn is because he started being quiet after his father died apparently
he is a fun guy, pau isnt
You heard 5? 🤣🤣
Jeremy Lin....Who went to Harvard
How's that knee John?
Right?? Y there’s no description for him. Sad
well no explain needed
Tung Dang don't need to explain anything. Harvard is Harvard lol. If you go there, you are smart academically. That's a given.
You know nothing, Jon Swall
Javale is clumsy, not dumb
and goofy
Nah on the court he did some shit that can ONLY be categorized as dumb lol
@@tjleaf3510 we all have moments that we ourselves think are stupid but that doesn't make anyone dumb including javale mgeee
Fact
Your right
I never would of thought JaVale would be described as smart especially with some of the things he does on the court. Don't judge a book by its cover I guess
He looks like a nerd tbh
It doesn't surprise me
Javale plays like a nerd
He has a learning disability
Shaq just hates him that's why he shows almost all of his mistakes. Which is very petty.
Neil Lin Shaq is just immature and arrogant I never really liked him during his playing days and I still dislike him now. Great player but like you said what he does to JaVale is really petty
"Jeremy Lin...went to Harvard" is a lot safer than "Jeremy Lin...is asian"
Tropikkkana an asian :)
"A"sian*
bongo155 more smart Asians than smart whites
bongo155 Lol if you're white and that's your argument, then it reflects badly on your race. Every intelligent person knows that intelligence =/= wealth. Just bad reasoning on your part.
bongo155 Just cuz Asian countries are less wealthy, doesn't mean they're less intelligent.
I love that you mentioned Duncan. He’s constantly overlooked as one of the smartest players/superstars ever. Timmy seriously had/has incredible intelligence on and off the court
I know he's retired but Kobe was super smart too. Pretty sure he grew up in Italy for a while and learned the language.
That reasoning is so stupid lol. Americans.
his fucking wife is Italian!!!! it doesn't mean he grew up there!!!
Actually his dad lived there while played basketball and he may have took the family with him.
eggstreme hotsauce he literally grew up there tho.
@@daylacro9733 He actually lived there for a bit when he was younger.
Didn't know pau can speak 5 languages
only 2 of them were self-taught.
Europeans often speak more than one, but that's too much. I remember that he and Kobe used to speak in Spanish on the court so that opponents didn't understand, although they could have picked Italian as both were also fluent in it.
ZuberiGaming ‘only’
blawckbuster Kobe used to live in Italy as a kid so that's why he is fluent in Italian.
Yeah, I know.
Basketball IQ and Academic IQ are totally different
No shit?
Nowitzky said it helped his game a lot to develop skills outside of Basketball.
FJ NEMO it helped their Academic IQ’s to get into college to play basketball.
FJ NEMO people with high b-ball IQs and have a passion for basketball also have high b-ball IQs...
And?
I think Simmons just didn't try to do the whole 'school' thing in college. He's talked about this many times, he knew he was only going to be there for a year and I guess he just didn't want to do work for no reason.
Joseph Tedros yeee broke his foot that off season to and missed the whole season lol better hope the 76ers karma don’t bite him in the ass
Paying attention in class doesn't mean less energy on the basketball court, nor does it justify his anti-intellectual sentiments. He doesn't need to study super hard. But a 2.0 GPA is a matter of basic effort and attitude. To be honest, I am a bit worried as a Philly fan regarding his realizing his full potential.
Vincent Theo
Which is weird when you see that jaylen Brown is on the opposite side of the spectrum and teams were worried about HIM! like you said thou that 2.0 shows immaturity and to me is a red flag. I'd still take him first overall no doubt though
he just didn't care
Joseph Tedros I'd be the same way to be honest. I hate institutionalized education and their busy work "assignments". If I knew I'd be going to the league I'd do the bare minimum in the classroom to remain eligible. Maybe it's just me and don't get me wrong I absolutely love learning, but I just like learning only what I want to know. I feel like college is a titanic waste of money, teaching subjects that can be googled and learned by anyone that has a passion or interest on any given topic. Hands on experience and solo learning are my go to methods. Those are all just my humble opinions and you don't have to accept them. I just wanted to voice that point of view.
Bosh always looked smart so I expected that
Bosh looks like Snoop Dogg with a shaved head.
Wynona's Big Brown Beaver lmao he does, I never noticed
I saw him on code.org
Love how you didn't need to get into jeremy lin
"JEREMY LYNN....went to Harvard" LMAOO! NAILED IT BRO!!
i like how in title of this video there's is word academically..because that's just one point of view..Lot of these guys had troubled childhood and it was impossible for them to develop studying ethics..that doesnt mean they are not smart, just that they are not academically developed.
sure why not
not gonna lie, the checkmark looks nice next to my channel name
Andy Hoops
Lol
THE GRIND PAID OFF
thank you for video.i always wondered.Big thank you
Well deserved
Andy Hoops the earth is flat
Can we have a separate video about NBA players who struggled academically?
136yomyheat that’s like fucking all of them
They were honorably mentioned in this video lol
bongo155 because they aren’t guaranteed a spot in the nba. You know for all the money that he has and the luck and skill that he’s been afforded Ben Simmons is only a child, physically and legally he’s a man but his world perception is very much his own and you can’t use it to make a generalization that applies to all high school ball players.
This would turn into a 2+ hour video then..
It's really hard to struggle academically, a lot of them just didn't care so their marks reflected it.
Pau is legit smart. Knowing that he was able yo get into med school. I know the struggles you have to endure to get in. Respect!
Jermey Lin, wwwent to Harvard lol
casey block like he didn't elaborate at all
He went to Harvard...that's enough of an explanation on how intelligent he his lol
At last! 100k, Andy! Congrats! Been with you since 20k and I'm so happy you reached this milestone. Here's to a million 🍻
Seriously bro you're doing great work. Entertaining videos, great video concept ideas. Glad you hit 100k, you definitely deserve more and are by far one of my favorite UA-camrs
“JERMEY LIN... went to Harvard”, best quote ever
"Jeremy Lin, who went to Harvard" lol that's it.
Andy Hoops always comes up with the most interesting video topics about NBA players, and not just constantly rambling about the same topics over and over again. Is he the most VERSATILE NBA UA-camr we have ever seen?
“jeremy lin went to harvard”🤣
Video of academic people then the caption
THE EARTH IS FLAT 😂😂🤣🤣
Auritra Saha
You don't actually know physics, you only know what you're told to say.
Auritra Saha 😂😂😂😂
Why does it matter whether or not he knows physics? A large amount of the facts we are taught are derived from some sort of STEM field. Now, of course you won't be able to learn all the information from these fields, so it's quite common for the average man to rely on people who work on these sorts of STEM fields for their information.
Unless you're saying that the world is in fact flat, in which case my above statements don't really matter as you wouldn't be able to comprehend any of them.
John Amaechi, also the first (former) NBA player to come out publicly. I always remembered them talking about him being a genius and he now has a PHD in psychology.
Like Amaechi, Shane Battier was also a 2-time NCAA All-Academic all star, although I just realized he majored in Religion so not sure if it's as big an accomplishment. But he would be a guy where you could say his academic IQ and basketball IQ are both top tier.
Why Bother Religion majors are actually smart!!!! www.statisticbrain.com/iq-estimates-by-intended-college-major/
Isn’t he gay
100k congrats 👏🏾
none of them have any tattoos
javale has tattoos, just not on his arms
Andy Hoops i should've said visible tattoos
Fotis Nik and?
Good Boy its interesting
Tim Duncan has a tattoo as well
what do you call a cleveland browns player with a superbowl ring?
a thief
Martins D
As a Jets fan I can always point to Cleveland and say "at least we're not the Browns"
I'm Steelers fan so please explain the struggle
Racist
Idk
*cough* wrong sport *cough*
Impossible
Our rivals did that gpa chant at my high schools best player. Everytime he got the ball they started chanting 2.0
100k man congrats
Officially over 100k subs. Congrats bro 🙌🙌
Marcus Smart
Am i the only one not surprised McGee is smart? The more awkward you are the smarter you are... usually.
Im awkward as fuck
Man congrats on 100k!
"JEREMY LYNN, went to Harvard" lol nailed it
And Shaq has a Ph.D.
No really, it's true. Google it. And not an honorary award; he actually took all the classes.
He actually earned Ed.D not a Ph.D.but still impressive!
Shaq is also a cop too. He's the biggest police officer in US history
Karpov Liam Or maybe he is actually smart?
Kevin Kelly What's his IQ
Kevin Kelly Thats not what Ive seen.
Derrick rose hired someone to pass a highschool exam for him bc he couldn't pass and needed to or he couldn't graduate
Genius!!
100 k congrats!!
Rlly enjoyed the video!
You so killed me on Jeremy Lin XD
Jeremy Lin....went to Harvard 😂😂😂epic
"Jeremy Lin, he went to Harvard!" nuff said 😂😂😂
Great job on 100k
Westbrook was the most surprising to me! Comes off as a VERY VERY low IQ individual but scholarship to Stanford? NOT BAD brotha!! KG not very surprising lol
Great vid andy

Michael Beasley is the smartest player ever
Don forget, he is also your favorite player's favorite player.
He also uses 11% of his brain
Larry Sanders was the smartest player..
darko
Bruh he shafted jermey Lin
well tbf, that's all you really need to know right?
“Jeremy Lin...went to Harvard.” Done. 😂
The Jeremy Lin one has me weak 😂😭
That Jeremy Lin part. 😂
With Jaylen Brown in particular you can just tell he's smart listening to him speak.
congrats on 100k
This video changed my perspective on life. Thank you 🙏
Malcolm Brogdon?
Ya he's the president and Andy didn't even mention him? smh
My man Brogdon's got a bachelor's and master's degree from one of the most academically rigorous schools in the nation. First Rookie of the Year that wasn't a first round pick since 1966. W
I’m sure you missed a couple, I know Dinwiddie was offered a scholarship to Harvard as well. But I didn’t know most of these, pretty cool!
Stanford
"Jeremy Lin went to Harvard...." didn't even have to explain him lol
great video!!!! i loved the original idea!!!!!!!!!
How tf does one fail the SAT, u can get a low score but not fail
lmao most schools have minimum requirements
EmpireAppetite Chochotte oh ok that’s probably what he meant by failing, as I’m not meeting the schools requirement.
KG reaction @ 5:27 is KINDA LIKE the EQUIVALENT when you see Honey Nut Cheerios on top of your fridge
Considering the KG/Melo beef, Honey Nut Cheerios sounds appropriate.
Make more videos like this plz it inspired me
why doesn't he have 1 million subs people
Does anybody know that Richard Sherman went Stanford University
I guess that’s how he learn his trash talk
5:38 fav part so funny 😂, good video.
Jeremy Lin; no need to explain there. LOL
ACT 30 accepted to yale
Ok I should've applied to Ivy Leagues not only Berkeley and NYU with 1590 on SAT (superscore 1600) and a 107 GPA.
107 GPA?
Stephen Chua I'm taking 5 AP courses this year, so according to the hundred scale I get around 107 after multiplied by 1.1
u got a 1590 on the sat? Congrats to that too
What was your ACT score? You must use equal measures to get a accurate comparison someone intelligent as you knows that.
guesswho8512 I only took it once and got a 35, only because of the reading part was 35 whilst all other parts getting 36. So I refuse to submit the ACT score since I couldn't make it a perfect score anyway😜
(P.s. I don't like ACT)
3.9 GPA isn’t that hard if u put you’re mind to it.
Marina Casey yeah it’s easy for me I got a 3.8 last year and I am getting a 4.0 this year
It helps if you know the difference between your & you're.
"Jeremy Lin went to Harverd" enough said lmao
“jeremy lin went to harvard” 😂
30 ACT and went to Yale? Lmao
Marcus RotMG he was very talented in something else
well yeah obviously, but this video was about amazing academics and a 30 ACT is not something to be proud of academically.
Marcus RotMG are you dumb?
Bigl30001 What do you mean? When I took tests for college entrance I scored around a 35-36 and a 1550 on SAT so I believe I have a decent understanding of the ACT scoring.
Marcus RotMG the highest score you can achieve for the ACT is a 36...
there smarter than me and not to mention they are better at basketball :/
atul errabolu Then grind to get there
I expect Javale Magee to have an almost unlimited ceiling based on this. People with high IQ are often attempting to synchronize more incoming data than most people but over time as connections are made the many loose ends this approach produces resolve into competence with proper application and practice. When Javale starts to look really confident on the court look out.
Great video, I had no idea lol!
help me out, how hard is it to get to college in the US? I mean any college. Surely it can't be hard.
You have to try to not be able to get into college to not be able to get into college in the US. It’s easy
Adrien SMITH yeah but getting a 4.5 gpa is not even remotely easy I’m only taking honors classes and have all As and only have a 4.214
Pretty sure you can be accepted to most community colleges, but to get into an actual University, especially the prestigious ones, you need good grades and SAT scores.
It's a bit different here in Canada but still similar, way easier to get into 'college' but if you want to get into 'university' you need to do above average in secondary school.
I go to a top 20 school in the States, and it was a fucking mountain to climb to get here. All through high school and even now, my ass is grinding and it’s pretty fucking exhausting.
Rishab Prakash NOT Worth it.... World can end any damm second.....
Oh dope, not trying to self promote or anything but I actually did make a whol video on Derrick Rose cheating the SAT’s. Anyway good video bro🔥🔥
BBALL NATION i remember seeing that lol
- Not trying to self promote: Self promotes.
:p Your channel is pretty dope, just admit your self promoting!
r/oopsdidntmeanto
Uhh no videos on your channel but ok then. Also tryna self promote on someone else’s channel is a dick move
Congrats, my man checkmark and 100ksubs
And all you can say about Jeremy Lin is "he went to Harvard" LOL....
I mean is having the ability to solve a logarithm gonna help you figure out if you pass up a shot or not
Y’all mad annoying disrespecting javale when he’s doing really well in Golden State. Y’all go off of his past and not present
Juan Luis Torres Jr. he’s a back up to a rookie LMAOOOO
Juan Luis Torres Jr. not only that but with starting time that he play he is averaging 4 points 1 rebound AS A 7 FOOTER lmao
bruh jeremy lin got no college offers even though he won high school state championship, went to harvard cause of his gpa which is 4.0, got his degree, went undrafted, showed he could play in the NBA in the D league, killed it with the knicks and now he has a ring.
i use to make fun of Ben Simmons’s GPA, now i have a GPA lower than 2.0 #fullcircle
Jeremy lin. Went to Harvard
Eh I really question the general intelligence of a lot of athletes, especially student athletes. They're on the road so much for games and tournaments, where is there time for meaningful lessons or teaching of legitimate courses like math and English (not supposedly made up bs courses that the UNC men's basketball team has been accused of offering their athletes over the last 20 years. I don't think any ruling was made regarding that, but it's still disturbing. Also 1996-97 University of Minnesota men's basketball, another student was being paid to basically do their college work so they could play, thereby vacating their best season ever. I'm sure this happens elsewhere too behind closed doors, these instances were just brought to light)
Also, Intelligence is not how good you supposedly were in school (grades and gpas can be inflated by taking easier courses or just completely made up), it's what you do with what you did learn, and also true that you get out what you put into school. I'm almost certain many athletes, especially those going pro, do not put in the effort to learn about life should they not make it to the pros or if their careers end.
With that said, there are many athletes who are smart and prepared for life after sports, and that's great for them. While I won't say athletes are not smart people, I don't think grades, gpas, or colleges attended are always very good indicators of how smart they really are.
libraryham The fact that this isn’t the top comment on this video with hitting everything spot on disappoints me.
That's why their high school and not just college scores were given. Also intelligence and education level aren't necessarily proportional. The video also listed the actual majors of most of the athletes and even mentioned how Jaylen Brown for example was taking grad classes as a freshman. If you were paying attention or had as high of intelligence as you seem to think you have then you would've realized your comment was an actual big waste of time.
Hi, Andy. Enjoyed this video. Shaq earned a PHD in education. I don't know where though. Just a little trivia.
My mum taught at Simmons high school in Australia, I can easily see how academics would take a back seat
2:15 I knew it
Sorry for being stereotypical
Didn't know Westbrook was so smart
He actually was more found of his education then basketball mainly because he was 5’7 at the time
He went to UCLA come on now
JR Rider was another guy that was said to be very bright. For anyone who remembered him playing in the NBA, he was most known for making a promise the win the slam dunk his rookie year in 1994 when the was drafted 5th by the T Wolves in 1993. He was also remembered as someone be who always let his emotions get the best of him. When he played for the Hawks, Dikimbe Mutombo said that he is one of the most intelligent people he ever known and that says a lot, especially from someone like Mutombo, who has a PhD in medicine.
“Jeremy lin...went to harvard” lmfaoooo didnt need anything else nuff said
Kid Eazyy what type of school is Harvard
My GPA was low but I was considered among my peers as one of the smartest kids in school. Some kids get good grades through hard work and dedication. But it doesn't necessarily take an intelligent person to get good grades. And that's not to discredit this video, just to keep an open mind.
how you implying Kyrie stupid for thinking the earth is flat? tf 🤔
Chris Wright
Because that's a retarded thing to believe in.
Jigz Grijaldo why tho? bc that's what you was taught in school that its round???
And just so u know, Kyrie doesn't actually think the earth is flat. It's just a running gag...
PharaohJ go read the bible, Genesis. there's my proof where's yours? stfu and dont come at me wit no science shit cus its bullshit
Chris Wright when the sun is going down look at it as it completely sets then climb a tall tree or something high ground and you will see the sun again if the earth was flat that woul not be possible and i have tried this to know your facts bro
Do more videos like this
Alright, the one with Jaylen makes perfect sense, seeing him practice with Kyrie Irving is something else, he's not afraid to say anything to that dude...
That's a very hard comment right there. I don't think Javale has low basketball IQ at all. Most of the things are just memes and influence of shaqtin a fool. I believe he had reasonable basketball IQ, he just has mental lapses sometimes which is very different... or just plainly trying too hard.
Na but without all the Shaqtin a fool stuff when Javale was younger he CONSTANTLY blocked shots emphatically...into the stands. That kind of stuff is trying to make highlights rather than gain possession of the ball which = low bball IQ. I think that was actually one of the main things he got the bad rap from BEFORE Shaqtin a Fool was a thing.
