- Sorie Kim sketchbook master class drawing basics and beyond transform observation into imagination book preview. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, as often I am put off by books that have a lot of text in, however Drawing Basics and Beyond is very user friendly and easy to read in my opinion and helped my find my motivation to pick up a ballpoint and start drawing! The book covers a lot of fundamentals, but also talks about how Sorie Kim uses her sketchbooks, and how to learn efficiently by studying from reference and implementing the information to imagination. Maybe some of us already know this, but despite that, I find it very helpful to get reminders of this from highly skilled artists. As well as the information being invaluable to artists and illustrators, the illustations and drawings throughout are pretty cool, with a style that reminds me a little bit of brush pen artists, or freehand artists like Kim Jung Gi, Peter Han, Dongho Kim and Rembert Montald.
Initially I wasn't going to buy this book because I already own so many tips / tricks & how to draw books, that I simply don't get round to reading most of them. However, this one was so inexpensive, even pre release, that I decided I would give it a go, and purchase it for a quick video preview. I am really glad I did, as I find the information in here much easier to read then I expected ( as mentioned in the video, I struggled with the explanations and exercises described in the Peter Han drawing bible book, so I expected this to be the same ). I also found both the information, and the illustrations very inspiring as an artist. I highly recommend this one. Sorie Kim also has a few drawing courses out and is well known for being a best seller on Domestika.

She went to the same school as Peter did I believe. I can't remember if she was in one of his IRL classes though. I do like her style. Put the book on the wish list and thankfully there is a Kindle version.
Oh awesome, that makes a lot of sense, you can definitely see the influence in style. Yeah it's definitely worth picking up whilst it's so cheap, especially if you can get a kindle version which is usually even cheaper. Let me know what you think!
I actually was enrolled in one of her online classes. One time a lesson had to be postponed because she had to rush her dog to the vet.
What did the dog do? It had eaten her stylus.
No way XD Hopefully the dog was okay!? Also how were the classes? I have the Domestika one I think but they're usually quite short courses

Class was at Brainstorm. It's 3-hour-sessions once a week for 8-10ish weeks usually. She's a good teacher, but Brainstorm is a tad too pricey for what it's offering in my opinion. Unlike something like CGMA you also don't have permanent access to the lessons.
@@delusionalhobo6676 Oh yeah I have done some Brainstorm school classes before ( just the 6 or 8 week ones, I forget the name ) I think I did Reiqs and another on animation and creature design. I like the idea of it, but like you said, it really annoyed me that you couldn't watch them back, always baffled me and put me off.

@@DreamValeStudios yeah I am sure mine arrived like a week early for some strange reason - not that I am complaining! I pre ordered but I must admit because it was so cheap I wasn't sure what to expect, so pleased that I did now though, really enjoy this book a lot. Let me know what you think when yours arrives! How did you find Peters book out of curiosity? I have Sorie Kims Domestika course but I haven't actually had time to sit through it all yet - poor excuse because Domestika courses are usually pretty short! Thanks for watching!

@@DennisCNolasco I know the website well, but unfortunately it's US only I think. We have 'liberdistri' as the only supplier for the superani books I think it is, it's not UK still, but it can delivery here atleast. Keep me posted if you get anything new that you recommend!
