    Lovely plants! I think mini phals don’t get the attention they deserve. Beautiful color in a smaller package!

    Yeah!! You finally saw what I was seeing. The color s were similar but I noticed slight differences. In any event, even if they were identical, I would be happy with them because they look healthy and you can't beat that price. Looking forward to seeing their progress.

    Yes I think No2 is slightly darker than 1. Possibly could on-sell unwanted at your Orchid meeting.

    Pretty pink & purple 🌸🥰. To me they all look like Phalaenopsis Sogo Vivien 😁. Beautiful healthy 🌱with fantastic price, wow ! 👍

      As far as I know, these are unregistered orchids. These 'reduced' ones are imperfect for their high standards.

    The only problem watching Roger is that my collection of only 5 phalenopsis looks very pathetic in comparison to his gorgeous collection!

    Why don't you combine all the same purple plants in one pot? Could make a good showpiece.

    Thanks for the beginner encouragement. One of mine has survived over a year and bloomed. The others are new. Crossing my fingers they will survive at least a year and bloom too!

      Remember - the main reason for Phal deaths is too wet and not being allowed to dry in between watering especially if temps are not high.

    I've had that sponge type stuff in quite a few orchids from a local big hardware chain. I've found only the very small seedlings have it.
    I mentioned it on a forum and a wholesaler/grower who imports Cyms and Oncids and grows loads of his own hybridizing for sale to places like the big chain store said its great stuff, seedlings do very well in it and when repotting it COULD be left on.
    I did take the first couple out of it but I have left several as I bought them. They are small seedlings, Nobiles, Den Phals and Cattleya but all are growing well so I'm happy to leave them for now, but I will definitely be taking the stuff off when they graduate to a bigger pot.

      How well orchids do in it would depend on temps - in cooler temps, it would just stay too wet.

    • @dianeandorchidsatvictorharbor
      @dianeandorchidsatvictorharbor 2 місяці тому

      @@GrowingOrchidswithRoger Absolutely. I've cut the water down to a mere few drops over Winter and they only get that when the sponge is dry.

    The phalenopsis I have gotten all have that spongy plug. Mine, unfortunately, do not have the great root system yours appear to have, but they are doing ok.

      These reduced ones are not up to their high standard - like one large spike and one shorter or one with open buds and the other still mainly in bud.

    The first two look a lot like Sogo Vivien, but without variegation.
    Seedling plugs must have evolved a lot, both my grocery store Miltoniopsis and my first Den. nobile came in a single block of that spongy stuff, spent three months to half a year in it after purchase and revealed a massive, healthy root system on repot.
    I do remove them after all as I prefer potting medium with low water retention.

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger

      They're probably good for warmer temps but would probably stay too wet in cooler temps.

    I'm one of those who kill most of my phals 😢. But keep buying, hoping with my newly aquired bits of knowledge (thanks to Roger and a few others) to keep them alive. Next will come the blooming part. 🫠

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger  2 місяці тому +2

      The thing that kills most Phals is unsuitable media for the temps available. They will grow in wet moss if you can maintain 27-28C but at 22-23C, it would stay too wet. Most Phal deaths are due to soggy media and subsequent root loss.

      @@GrowingOrchidswithRoger Even with temperatures like that you need a very good in and outlet, like you used to have. The ones I get in moss end up on a mount
