This was a very educational video but remember to check the DOT rating, it’s a 4 digit number. The first 2 numbers is the week the tire was created, and the last 2 numbers is the year the tire was made. I got ripped off with my tires that were made in 1998 and it left me stranded on the freeway.
thank you. I didn’t know that
I just learned about that recently!
How old is too old?
@@user-pj1sf8ol9gno more than 2-3 years, once it hits older than 4 years it’s considered unsafe
@user-pj1sf8ol9g you shouldn't buy "new" tires with a date code over 2 years, tires are illegal after 5-7 years from date of manufacture in most areas. I think down here in Texas the max is 10
Lifetime tire rotation. Well worth it. It cost 20 bucks per rotation. I do that every oil change. So I'd prob save over 100 bucks on a set of tires.
I have to say, as someone who was an educator for a good while, this is a fantastic video. Great job keeping my attention and focus. Great job breaking down the basic principles. I feel a lot better about this now.
Always check the DOT date of manufacture stamp on each tire. Some tire dealers will try to pass off two year old tires on you.
BEEN THERE!
This video is actually perfect for me. Was about to buy new tires for my 2015 GTI first time buying tires on this car and I wanted something good but dont want to break the bank. I just used these tips and im amazed
Great video! I don't have a high performance car like yours, some of the tips you suggested I know work. Especially knowing your tire size and calling the tire retailers. For my '07 Eclipse - I did get a value for 17" tires for $500. That's $500 for all four. Asking for rebates does work, asking for free installation -- I didn't get, they said no, but I did get the free road warranty. Which a few weeks later came in handy because I picked up a nail and had to have the whole tire replaced. You may not like Discount Tire, but they gave me, I think a great deal on a 50K mile tire.
I watched your content a couple years back and I must say that you, Brad, have gotten a lot more bearable as a host haha. You really dialed down the intensity, bud, and I dig it. (I know- you live and breath for my approval! Well, you have it. Kudos, kid!)
I love the amount of information given here. So now it’s time to apply my new found knowledge. LET’S GO!!
LEGO!!!
Its cool you made this video Brad, I might actually be in the market for new tires real soon for my truck
Congrats for getting sponsored a big step forward in life for ideal media 👏👏👏👏👏👍🥳🥳🥳
I like the info, it was a good refresher. I think the new tires will be awesome. Can't wait to see the video.
Thank you for the video I’m new to this so this really helped
tire4coin have best prices
Great advice Thx Brad👍🏻👍🏻. I didn’t know about the higher the letter the higher the speed rating for a tire. So thank u for that🙏🏻.
Mate next time your in a tyre shop have a look at their product books that’ll have the letter ratings and rated speeds in front before you scan through
i got my tires from tire4coin
Never been this early to a video, I might even call it IDEAL TIMING 😂
Lol😂
Good One
Nice one
😆 😆 😆
i like that 😅👏
Lovin the content 👍
Thanks, I got Michelin Premier for my 04 Mercury Grand Marquis it came with the car when I bought it last year I might try and get them again when I need new ones or if not try to get like something close as good to them or mid-range I don't get wanna get something cheap especially how big the car is
This was Very helpful!!!!!
I know I'm 8 months late, but very informational. I might use this today, as my driver's side tire is very bald and the other ones have pretty low tread
Thanks for information
Good info bro!
Brad/Squid like the Porsche I have 19” rims on my GT Falcon . In saying that I’ve found I’ve stuck with the OEM Dunlop Sportmaxx which is Y rated like the Porsche but a 35 not a 30 and the best deal I’ve had was at a Bridgestone Dealer at nearly $500 off across the tyres as they had a near 30% off sale on non Bridgestone tyres from generic through performance tyres.
What is a reasonable date for DOT rating when purchasing new tires - 6 months? A year...?
Very good information.
Quality content 👌
I paid 190 for 4 BRAND NEW STILL OF THE SHELF TOYO EXTENZA TIRES from ebay for my honda civic stock wheels, best investment 💯💯👌🏾
yeeeee! wow awesome job... dare i say.. Ideal! 😎
How have those eBay tires hold up?
@@meltingspot1064 they still new lmao😭😭😭😭 tread is still perfect that's been 4 years ago bro
@@meltingspot1064 I got 4 different set of tires and 4 different wheels. I swap around on the cars like clothes lol
Thanks for this ideal video with ideal advise. I'll definitely use it to get an ideal price out of some ideal tyres for my ideal ride 😂
Word of advice. Dont get run flat tires. Also once it comes to replace them, consider something besides what came with factory.
#bmw hahahaha
Hi Brad, I have had many beater junkers. I finally bought a nice 07 camry se 215/55R17 two years ago. Most I paid for a car and I LOVE it. Another first will be buying a set of new tires. One is SEVEN years old. I drive through a puddle on a curve and I feel like I am watching Jason getting work done in a Friday Thirteenth movie. It is white knuckle harrowing. Terrifying. I am hydroplaning all over the place. I watched many videos and have narrowed it down to too many tires - five.
Federal SS 595.Riken Raptor VR. General Gmax AS05. Conti DSW 06. Mich Pilot Sport AS4. I am at the get on the phone and call stage. Any thoughts on what to say calling around? I have watched your video at least 5 times and I found it the value of the Mona Lisa.
Man I love this show
lets goooo!
"I don't have very many freinds" you have me Brad
I like it man!
my car has 195x45r15 but i just recently bought rota slipstream wheels 7x16 offset:40 4x100 and i was looking at 205/45zr16 tires, would that be a nice size or no?
Yes people need to know how to shop for tires. Good quality, good price, 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel, all wheel etc. Great video.
Military discount and last seasons tires. Got a set of Farrelli's normally 138 a piece 89 with free install lifetime rotation because they had seven left
The brigdestone radial tires is still the first choice for high speed car.especially when the Cars running in the rainy season.. but in Indonesia we bring a lot of thing s such as rice or corn n another material are more than the maximum tires operating procedure.for example we used tires 700 ring 14 to bring rice for light truck about 3 ton n we give this tires the air pressure about 75 psi..n this is out of safety driving n this tires Will damage suddenly n sometimes can cause explossion n sometimes the rims break n damage..
hello there, so I have a question for you . so when we go to shop and buy new tire they ask you want good , better or best tire. don't matter what brand, how do I know they give me the one I buy. please help. do you think sometime they cheat? Thank you
Michelin tires are always the best to go with !!!💯🔥
This was a great idea for a video (series). Ideally... in Canada; one should have an all-season set, as well as a a Winter set. The biggest mistake that I’ve noticed when people buy tyres (‘Tires’ for the Americans) is that people go too cheap. Particularly for their Winter tyres. Winter is the one season (and its a long one) where you can NOT afford to lose traction/grip. If you’ve had just one bad experience, you will lose confidence and therefore, by default, you will truly stop enjoying the Driving experience. Never sell yourself short, particularly when it comes to safety. Thanks for the video. Happy 4th of July!
Great additional info! happy 4th my man!
Good info for the average buyer.
So will this 911 be the safari build or will the other one you picked up, but we haven’t seen in a while, be the safari build?
any saving tips on staggard tires since they cant get rotated and they are 2 different sizes?
Please do a vid on affordable drift cars in Trinidad please🙏
Which one 1010 tires or tire rack u suggested both
Very good stuff. I got rid of my Good Year Wrangler Tires at 65k despite 30% tread left due to the rainy season coming up and wanting to visit the snow. The way I bought my Michelin Defenders M/S for my Ram was I first researched for all season tires for best performance as well as warranty which Michelins had the best reviews and a warranty of 70k. Costco had the best deal for 4 new Defender tires at $840 before taxes due to a $150 manufacturer discount, went to Big O Tires to see if they could match it due to their alignment service that Costco doesn’t do, they matched it immediately and alignment was an additional $100. Once the negotiation part was done I showed them a $100 Groupon at Big O Tires which I paid $33 to save $67 more which I used at checkout. Then I used 2 separate credit cards since at Big O I would get 5% back up to $20 to max that out at saving another $40 plus the points I earned. Then instead of paying the tire disposal fee I took the old tires with me and sold them at a used tire shop for $50. All in all I’m very happy and saved around $320 plus now I can do all my rotations at Big O for free without the long lines at Costco and have great tires to go with it.
Wow that’s crazy man. Good deal but seems like a lot of work. I typically buy quality truck tires 90% tread or newer for about 50% off on Facebook marketplace
@@AldenPez For sure, to shop around for tires was a lot of work, but finding the Groupon and seeing the credit card 5% off bonus offers was easy
The tire with the taller sidewall is the better tire. The 16" tire will give a smoother ride because the taller sidewall will take a rough road like a shock absorber. The short sidewall makes a rough ride and they wear out faster.
Safari is a very acquired taste. I'm not in a hurry to see a Porsche sliding in the mud but I'm always looking for a good deal on tires.
Can't wait to see the Safari 911!!!
Well i hit the dislike button twice, & im back to square one. so i hit the like button once, & now im 1 step forward...
lets goooo!
OMG I just came here to comment this very thing, then i saw your comment.
I have found some of the lowest prices on tires from internet dealers who will ship the tires directly to you. I purchase a set of tires this way this week and beat the local tire dealers by over $230 ...... the problem is buying tires this way requires you to find someone who will mount and balance them for you and this could cost an additional $30 a tire. If I had purchase local then that cost could have been free. Another problem I have found is if you buy a brand of tire not sold in your area then you may have problems getting it serviced under warranty.
Ah sweet. You in WA too. (:
What about the date and year they were made?
When you move your hand in circles that's circumference not the diameter of the wheel that the tire fits on. So size 15 would be the diameter measurement straight across the rim????
Hmm buying tires is always a pain in the ass to buy and see which is a good price but all this info will be helpful
This video was very helpful! Now I know that I’m just gonna pay a bigger price just so I don’t have to learn the new skill of tire shopping
12 hrs after ordering a pair off eBay.. 😂
haha what tires did you get?
Ideal Media Ironman imove gen2, they’ve been a decent cheap set to shred through on my nb miata.
How are there two different speed ratings
Yep i went to Discount tire to get tires and they sold me the wrong tires i went in there for some lowpro and wide tires for my 99 durango 2 wheel drive and got ripped off
I just bought a used truck that needs new tires. The tires on it are 15" but every time I look on a website and put in my trucks specs it says I need a 16" tire. Why? I like the looks of the tire and it seems to have good enough reviews. The dealer wouldn't have put on wrong tires and then try and sell me new ones would he? He tried to sell me new ones but didn't say anything about them being the wrong size or anything.
if your running out of ideas here are 2 that i've thought of:
1: cars for tall people.
2: cars for short people.
Definitely just advertising for your channel in the description
First time buying tires , and i just this is the last video I’m going to watch about buying tires
You should show where the date codes are.
yeah i should have... dangit!
@@IdealMediaChannel I purchased tires on line and they were 7 years old. Looked new but they didn't last long before breaking apart at the treads and the sidewalls.

When u call tire shops a cashier will answer and they couldn't care less about if your gonna spend with them.
I’ll be your freind brad 👍👊
Those tires on the 911 would look ghastly!!!! They belong on an off road vehicle.
Hard to beat Tire Rack prices. Wouldn't just let any shop mount tires..... especially if you have nice wheels. So many ways they can mess up. I'd put Bridgestone RE71Rs on that 911, or any street car for that matter. Nitto NT01s for the track or dedicated track car.
It would have been really great if you had linked in the description all those useful links that you said that you would link in the description…
How do you how old the tires is?
cut it open and count the rings

I applied this instructions and bought a house.
Do you actually daily drive your Porsche 911?
sorta
I’ll take those Toyos from you Look good on my Silverado
Tire Rack shipped my set of wheels and tires and the wheel weights fell off 2 of them. One of the wheels had a chip in it! I called them and they didn't believe me! I had to go back and forth through emails and send pics for a month now (they claimed they are too busy!??) and take the car in to get the wheels balanced myself. Don't waste your time with Tire Rack! I am still trying to resolve my claim a month later! Horrible customer service!!
Hit dislike twice, LOL. If I like I hit like twice, too, right? Good vid for the novice. Tire shops like to sell alignments with new tires and with good reasons for them and for you. For nearly 20 years I went to an excellent alignment shop in Walnut Creek, California, that would mount tires for you but didn’t sell tires. I never ended up getting tires mounted there, but the alignments were always great. They’d also tell me when the alignments were still within specifications and not charge me. Then I moved across the country. If you think you want the tire shop to align your front and rear ends, consider reviews and pricing. Maybe they’ll discount it if they’re also selling you tires and hazard protection because alignments affect wear.
great info!
Ebay is ftw

“They should be the only thing touching the pavement “ : static kids 😈
Did u rewrap the 996
nope
Why is the 16 bigger than 19?
Any cars is not ideal if they didn't have they're *IDEALLY DESERVED TIRES.*
fo sho!
@@IdealMediaChannel Might be!
I bought a set of Michelin Defenders T+H from Costco in Jan 2021. Just brought them back in for another rotation with 31k miles, and they put the wrong tires (Michelin X tour A/S) on the vehicle in the first place. Now they say they cannot warranty them because they are not the correct tire. I have all receipts. They are straight up scamming people.
so you were driving 30K on the wrong tire and didn't notice? how is that possible?
@jicalzad I looked quickly at the tires when they were installed and saw michelin on them and assumed they were defenders. I should have looked more carefully.
How to test your tire go to the store ask them to test them put them on your car and burn out for 5mins if it last swap out the burn out tires for tyres of the same brand.....lol
hahahha
i wish i seen this 8hrs ago
The hardest part about shopping for tires is that you cannot search for a range of sizes. 18 inch wheels can fit a range of width and aspect ratio significantly and sometimes tires will be significantly less expensive for the same make and model of tire just one size off but you never see that because everyone tries to replace with exactly the manufacturer specifications.
Ditch that stupid skibox :D
I'm not so early but I commented
yeeee!
Those tires look huge next to that car
Yeah we use the metric system all over the world only you over there refused to use it and keep using that crap system that nobody else use...
Nope .. Everyone doesn't use the metric system .. It's also the worst one to use .. Western standard to be honest
Nope .. Everyone doesn't use the metric system .. It's also the worst one to use .. Western standard to be honest
Tino Miller the metric is better
the "R" is for RIM has in the size of the wheel, rim = wheel , that is why its says r16 rim 16" cant belive ideal media says that a All terrain tires has radial tires xD
gotta make sure you're paying attention!
No, "R" designates the tire construction, which is Radial. Doesn't stand for "rim" lok
