Peter is a layering/mixing genius, not to mention that he has one of the most amazing voices of the century. He and Home Free do such wonderful things together, and even more wonderful when they include their fans. Love this one, never paid U2 much notice. Thanks for your delightful reactions!
We received learning tracks, and when we were ready we used a countdown on another track and we had to record it on our own phone or tablet and send it to them.
The pictures that have the heads that changed was from the song they did before. Peter also does great work with some of the songs from The Greatest Showman with his family. So nice to watch your reactions to this song.
The first time I heard this during covid, when the choir kicked in, I started to cry. Not having been with folks for so long it they mass of people really moved me. Thanks for the reaction..
This was a really sweet comment, Rick. Thank you...we can absolutely understand, relate, and see what you mean about the choir part moving you. Hope to see you back soon! ❤️,🥷🏻
What a fun reaction! Love their version of the song and the 'picture' where they were all standing together then Peter became animated, that 'picture' was from Amazing Grace that they did together, if you haven't heard it yet, please check it out, it is lovely.
Can't deny how just damn good it is ... I do know the song, remembering it from back when (think because it was played so much) ... but it kinda takes on some "new" meaning with this "mix"; makes a huge difference when you have "something in the game"! Brilliance is what it is ... and they had "time", not knowing how long things would be sold to last - absolute BRILLIANCE!!! Be Safe
The beginning photo of the group with Peter is from their Amazing Grace collaboration that was before Covid. He used that to show them all together since they couldn’t do it then. They invited their patrons to submit recordings for Peter and his crew to edit into this fantastic video. Apparently from what I remember everybody had to say what part they would sing and then each one trained the soprano, alto tenor baritone bass. I think they said Austin trained the soprano group and they did it using Skype or Zoom or something like that. I’m sure someone who is in the video can give you the correct story…I remember seeing or hearing something like that right after it was released. Really a great fun thing to do during such a stressful time. Thanks for reacting!
We got an audio recording of our part, and a written version. Then we had a click track and "ghost vocals" to record to. It was a really fun experience and now I can say that I've been in a music video.
This was my favorite collaboration with Peter Hollens. Normally I'm and Austin voice fan, but on this one it was Chances voice that had me captivated and amazed. Thanks for these HomeFree Fridays. ❤🥰
Peter Hollens songs you should check out...well, all of them really. But with the holidays here, his "December Song" is fantastic. It's one of the few where he used an instrument (piano).
If you enjoy this, there are 2 other videos with patron participants. One is Everyone Walking This Land. And the other is Love Train. My son is in Love Train for a brief moment. He's got the green wig on dancing. Thanks for your reaction!
I think this was the Home Fries (Home Free patrons) and the Hollen patrons as well. I believe Peter Hollens did a video that described how they did this. You're correct that it was a pandemic project.
Sorry, Ninja... I didn't see your message about sharing the picture! It's been a busy couple of weeks at work. I totally had intention of being in this production but ended up sick and didn't feel better until after the deadline to submit. Next time though! Thanks for another great reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed the surprise! 😅❤
This was shot during Lockdown, so they are all physically apart in this one! I love how they made this a gospel song. Jillian- we still can’t sing in unison the Internet due to time delays.
Hey, guys! Thanks for the great reaction. I am a huge U2 fan, but I actually prefer this version to the original. I don't know if you ever watched the U2 concert/documentary film, Rattle & Hum (or just heard the soundtrack), but I believe the choral arrangement used here is the same arrangement used by a gospel choir in the movie (it sounds very similar to me and I've watched the film dozens of times on dvd). U2 went to Harlem to see a gospel choir sing this song, and were so impressed they had them perform it with the band during a concert. All of this is in the movie, which was filmed during their Joshua Tree tour of the US. Great soundtrack, and one of the better concert films (the last 20 - 30 minutes is all concert). Even if you are not a big U2 fan, it's still worth checking out. Love your Home Free reactions, please keep them coming! ❤
Peter and Austin compliment each other wonderfully. Austin’s voice is so sharp and clear, it cuts deep into your heart. Peter’s reaches the same beautiful highs, yet has a softer edge. Peter is a master of overlaying harmonies with himself, at times over 100 tracks of incredible range. For a pretty example, watch him do “The Parting Glass”. It will ease you into believing that it’s all him. ( the version that’s just him)
The Longest Johns did a similar choir for "Leave Her Johnny". They posted each of the four parts on their website and each choir member picked a part and made a recording while singing along with the choir track. Then the engineer mixed all of the voices and the video editor put their faces on screen. If you look carefully, one of Austin, Rob or Peter is singing the same line as the choir, so Peter probably sent out a sing-along track based on the voice needed. Chance and Tim might have done something similar. But I don't think Adam sent out a beatbox track for people to sing along with. 🙂
I got the invite, but I wanted my daughter to get in on it too and she wouldn't so neither did I, but I wish I had. The video came out really nice and I love it.
I absolutely adore this piece and the way they went about it. You need to go review Peter Hollens and Tim Foust collab "Misty Mountains". Tim's video was shot in Hell on Grand Cayman and Peter's video was shot somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. They're great together.
Happy news, I've done "Misty Mountain"! Please watch when you have time: ua-cam.com/video/3SCKsRlBpPA/v-deo.htmlsi=RCUFOMsHx650BG5c Thank you for the terrific suggestion though, and please keep them coming! ;-)
This is such a feel good song done by Peter, Home Free & the choir of Patreons. This was done during the pandemic. Fabulous editing! Love all the collaborations Peter has done with Home Free & Tim Foust.
It was truly a great cover. Have you seen any of the Playing for a change covers? I think you’ll like them. Stand by me or the Weight. You should check them out.
Peter Hollens does I See Fire from LOTR movies, also has a few collaborations with Lindsey Sterling that are really amazing. You can’t go wrong with any of Peter’s solo work.
Peter Hollens, another fellow Oregonian! (like the Hound and the Fox) I'm glad you finally reacted to this one! It's so fun! Have a blessed weekend Jeremy and Jillian!
I love Home Free, and it was cool to see a new reaction to this video. I can see myself in the video from the 5:44 to 5:48 marks of your video scrolling down past Adam, Peter and Chance. My face is really light because the window had been behind my camera. I can also be seen in the bottom left corner of the music video at 7:48 in your video. So, Home Free and Peter both announced to their patrons they were doing this (and you had to be a patron of both, for that short time if you weren't already). They had a timed clicking sound you could play to know the correct place to start singing and then people just sang filming themselves that way while listening to the music in headphones mostly I believe.
Great reaction as always! I was in that choir and it was such a fun experience! It wasn't a screen recording, we got a video and audio recording of the different voice parts (depending if we wanted to sing Alto, Soprano, Tenor or bass) and either an easier track (the 'Still Haven't Found...' chorus at the end) or a harder part (the lines from the beginning) and music sheets. There was a click track and we had to clap 3x visibly at the beginning to help sync up the vocals and as someone described it below "ghost vocals" to record to and then sent in the video and / or audio when we were satisfied with our recording (for me it took days to practice and multiple tries until it was halfway ok with the video and audio). Another video with Patron participants is 'Love Train' where we were required to dance to an upbeat track. A group of 5 of us from Germany participated in that one as well. The song wasn't mentioned but a lot of us guessed which one it was for (as you will see in a few of the dance themes).
I wasn't in this but I was in something similar, the Longest Johns' Wellerman Community Project. That one ended up with 6500 singers, editing must have been a nightmare! The band made available recordings of the different parts so you could pick the one best suited to your voice (bass for me). The song was mixed low underneath so it was clear when to come in.
@@miamidolphinsfanoh man, that’s too bad!! Yeah, we’ve both had covid as well, and it really put us down too.
