Some people think this is from Rushs worst album but for me there is a certain rawness, passion and innocence to the music that makes it one of my favorites. I like it more than fly by night which came out just before it. It’s just more experimental.
You guys are right. It is a metaphor for life. The fountain is whatever goal or dream you have about what life should be. We are always trying to obtain that goal, for most, it's wealth or standing, but in the end we realize the real fountain is the journey of life itself. Hardships. Love. Loss. Experience. Even Glory.
The Fountain Of Lamneth originally appeared on side 2 of the third album, Caress Of Steel. It was their first side long epic and the band have said that this was a test run of what they would do for 2112 a year later. Alex is on record as saying that 'without Fountain Of Lamneth, we would never have tried to make 2112'. The album didn't do well, saleswise and there was a chance that if the follow up wasn't successful, their record company was going to drop them. The band entered the studio with the attitude of "if we're going down in flames, at least let them be our flames". They recorded 2112 and the rest is history.
Part IV. Bacchus Plateau, gets me every time when Alex' guitar solo comes in at the end. My ears swear they are hearing a flute that turns into a guitar! Alex's magical fingers put their spell on me again!
This was actually one song divided into parts. It took up side two of the Caress Of Steel album released in 1975. It set the stage for their next album, 2112.
Can you imagine playing this for Paul Stanley in 1975, when KISS was about to become the biggest band in the world, and him NOT GETTING it, yet realizing years later, the opening band you’ve picked for thrashing out ‘Working Man’ and ‘Anthem’ has grown(progressed)more in one year and two albums then you will ever in 50 years or 50 albums🤯😎🖖🤘✌️🥁🎸🎹🎤
Geddy says they played this whole album for Paul Stanley before it was released, while on tour with Kiss. Paul looked nervous and said "Good luck with that fellas"
Let's fade to 1979 young Bobby is sitting in his living room listening to this album and getting blazed. Suddenly he realizes this could be his favorite Rush album. This song is a major reason for that rating.
It was Neil taking a headlong dive in to "conceptual art" music, and is most likely inspired by a book by Ayn Rand called The Fountainhead. It's simply a journey of life. As always, RIP to "The Professor".
I can only say ONE word: EPIC, AWESOME, UNBELIEVEABLE... ok THREE words. Probably my fav Rush song (Though that's hard to say). Keep on Rushin and Babymetaling! Greets from Germany and enjoy!
Life is just a candle, and a dream must give it flame. This is one of my favourite Rush songs. I lived it, as we all have. Now I am so close to the fountain myself it holds even more meaning. Nice choice guys.
The older you get, the more you appreciate The fountain Of Lamneth". The amazing thing for me is that they had the awareness to write it at such a young age. To me TFOL up there with Natural Science, Freewill and The Garden.
I know of no incarnation of Rush that I DON'T like...But, for me (of course, I'm a bit biased), this is their best era. I've got over 200 live shows under my belt starting in '77 when I was twelve. Rush is the band I've seen the most. From the "A Farwell to Kings" tour (tickets were $6 lol) to "Snakes and Arrows," they've NEVER disappointed...EVER. RIP my brother Neil. Save me a seat in the smoking section for when it's my turn to be called home.
You guys have to do Middletown dream and Marathon. Power windows is one of their best records and I believe you haven't touched it at all. You have to guys !!!
This is Far and Away Russia's most Black Sheep record.... it flopped at the time, and was part of the leverage the record company was using against the band to try and make them transition into being a much more mainstream Act. I absolutely love the album that this is from which is caress of steel, it is one of those brilliant moments in time where an artist wasn't quite fully developed into who they were destined to be..... that would come one album later with the Masterpiece that is 2112.... but this was the learning curve that got them there. The album is so thick with hash oil Vibes and Lord of the Rings mythology that it has been a perennial favorite for background music in a thousand Dungeons & Dragons games since the 1970s when it was released.
Hey Guys I'm new and love your reactions. The triviaquestions are awesome. And if you like some good progressive storytelling then yu have to listen to Ayreon's song The Day that the World breaks down. Its 12 Minutes long but easy to listen with al lot of amazing singers like Floor Jansen, Simone Simmons, Hansi Kürsch and so on. I think you will love that song. Cheers from Switzerland
It's one of the reasons RUSH is so great, Neil's lyrics are just good storytelling. And this album is not as bad as people said it was when it first came out.
This album almost did Rush in. It was a terrible seller, and their record label almost dropped them after this. 2112 save them. This record hits better after a few hits. If you know what I mean. 😊
The original release actually separated the parts of this, Where "Diadects and Narpets" was we had "I think I'm Going Bald"... when It was re-released in the '90's the tracks were put back into order. RUSH liked playing games like that, they released a song called "Fear" in the '80's, the problems was all three parts were on different albums, with part 3 being released first... Thus "I: The enemy Within" (1984), "II: The Weapon" (1982), and "III: Witch hunt (1981) and some claim that "Freeze" from 2002 is supposed to be a part 4 to it...
People weren’t ready for this in 1975
Most people aren't ready for it in 2024. The talent & vision is beyond most people's ability to grasp.
Some people think this is from Rushs worst album but for me there is a certain rawness, passion and innocence to the music that makes it one of my favorites. I like it more than fly by night which came out just before it. It’s just more experimental.
Thanks for the reaction, love the "Caress of Steel" album, now you can listen to "The Necromancer" off the same album!
They heard Necromancer a year ago.
"The Necromancer" is the other epic from the "Caress of Steel" album.

Love that

Not many reactors would do this epic song, consider yourselves knighted by the gods of music. ❤
🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely
Beautiful song about the cycle of life from birth to death.
The drummer from rush is amazing.🤘🤘😊😮😊🤘🤘
Rush is such an amazing band.❤❤❤
This was actually one song divided into parts. It took up side two of the Caress Of Steel album released in 1975. It set the stage for their next album, 2112.
One of the best Rush albums in my opinion

Simply stated...best band, ever.
Let's fade to 1979 young Bobby is sitting in his living room listening to this album and getting blazed. Suddenly he realizes this could be his favorite Rush album. This song is a major reason for that rating.
The no one at the bridge section is my favorite part of the song. Geddy‘s vocals and Alex’s solo are excellent.
It was Neil taking a headlong dive in to "conceptual art" music, and is most likely inspired by a book by Ayn Rand called The Fountainhead. It's simply a journey of life. As always, RIP to "The Professor".
All UA-camrs should react to this. It is criminally underrated!!
I can only say ONE word: EPIC, AWESOME, UNBELIEVEABLE... ok THREE words. Probably my fav Rush song (Though that's hard to say). Keep on Rushin and Babymetaling! Greets from Germany and enjoy!
This might be my favorite reaction from you guys! This song is beautiful and pure genius
This is one full song with a number of moments like 2112 and describes the cycle of life.
Beautiful song 🎵 ❤
No One at the Bridge is my favorite part 😂
Alex solo during that is so cool
Probably one of my favorite Rush songs.
Life is just a candle,
and a dream must give it flame.
This is one of my favourite Rush songs.
I lived it, as we all have.
Now I am so close to the fountain myself it holds even more meaning.
Nice choice guys.
I'm so blessed to have seen them nine times and yet so depressed I will never see them again
My favorite rush album
🤨
Morning guys! I love the "stories of rush" lol. They transport you:)
The older you get, the more you appreciate The fountain Of Lamneth".
The amazing thing for me is that they had the awareness to write it at such a young age.
To me TFOL up there with Natural Science, Freewill and The Garden.
This one makes me emotional. I was taking my son to school this morning and we listened to it. He loves it as much as I do, and that's pretty special.
Can’t believe I never heard this before. Pretty damn cool 😎
I love this band ❤😊
David Christie… great pick. i was literally thinking of another song i could send these guys, and this was one of them. 😎
Love it your work! Try Rush Secret Touch live snake and arrow!😊
I know of no incarnation of Rush that I DON'T like...But, for me (of course, I'm a bit biased), this is their best era. I've got over 200 live shows under my belt starting in '77 when I was twelve. These guys are insane❤
Alright! 🙌🙌. More Rush!! …”oh shoot, ok Smokey, another name for..”😊
Still have the LP. I like it more today, compared with when I bought it which must have been in the early 1980s.
Same - a matter of maturity in my case.
Y'all best reaction so far, imo!
I’ve heard Atlanta is the City in a Forest from my Architecture and Urban Design professors from the early 90’s.
Great album one of my favorites
Early Rush still developing,
Holy shit
My fav from them
You guys have to do Middletown dream and Marathon. Power windows is one of their best records and I believe you haven't touched it at all. You have to guys !!!
RUSH are their own genre of music
3 piece bands rock
Didacts and Narpets almost seems like the inspiration for Neil's appearance in the ATHF movie

Great music I love it
This album is a prime example of when "being ahead of it's time" didn't really work out until that time came. Luckily it didn't take too long.
My one's fav composition of prog band
Sweet!
@14.24-That Tone!!!

Love this track. I don't think it all works, but this was their first try at this format. Next album, 2112, which of course they just mastered. 😎
It's one of the reasons RUSH is so great, Neil's lyrics are just good storytelling.
And this album is not as bad as people said it was when it first came out.
They've mentioned it several times
The Hash oil was flowing strongly in 1975
Epic trip
Didacts and Narpets is an anagram for Addict and Parents
Quite the odyssey through mythos and stuff. Force of hobbit, prob'ly. 😅
React to Spiritual Healing by Death
It's Lamenth! Not Lamneth lol. I believe it means Death.
It's Lamneth
@@kevinmiller6496 I thought it was Lamenth, according to Rush official YT channel ! ua-cam.com/video/qWdTqrszR2E/v-deo.html

2112 next!!
I believe that they already did 2112.
People either love them or hate them...
Me, I recognize their talents, I'm just not into their weird ass lyrics and time signatures.
First 🥇
