It takes a special person to be able to talk to a camera like it was a person, it feels like your talking to a crowd of people, you are awesome, I love your humor and your videos
I never saw any future in growing up myself to be honest! And here I am pushing 73 years old , and I haven't even started trying to grow up yet, there's no real future in it in my honest opinion! Some kids just never grow up, no matter how old we get.
Don't you just love it! I don't live off grid but I'm the next to the last house on this road with a bit over 20 acres with two beautiful streams running right in front of my house and filled with brook trout . The next nearest neighbor is 6 miles away and there is only four houses on this entire Road all separated by at least a thousand feet, until you get to the other side of the mountain. Then once it snows the road that goes over the mountain is closed for the winter and that's where the power lines stop as well. It's just state, Federal and Timber Company land for probably a hundred square miles around me after that. I'm an old coot and my Homestead is well established so all I have to do is just play ! What a shame, don't you feel sorry for me? It's just me and my two dogs living up here on the top of the mountain and enjoying life to the fullest here at the high mountain Homestead. but don't be jealous, anybody can do it if you really put your mind to it, and I can almost guarantee you won't be sorry you did!
Nice. I won't ask you where you are but I'm eyeing land in my area next to federal timber land where I live and a water source. Your plan sounds just right to me :)
Dont get me wrong loved watching you live solo all these years, but love when tito visits and you do videos like this. Also wish we could follow his build and what he is up to too. Glad you had fun guys
I'm surprised you don't have a small wood stove as a back up heat source. And your right about pajamas under snow clothes perfect combination been doing it for years
It's really nice that you have a friend like that to do stuff with. My best friend died 22 years ago in a car accident when we were 16, and I never found another best friend that I could hangout with just doing random anything. This is nice, it reminds me of when I was a kid.
I read a book years ago called the Tracker by Tom Brown Jr he went out in a snowstorm with a blanket or pelt ( can't remember) and just sat out in a snow storm for a few days , the snow covered him up ns he just observed all the animals, and scenery. I found this fascinating when I read it. he did not have any food or water either I think .It was a spiritual thing I guess.
He did it to learn about the animals and the natural ways thing react to the environment during the changes that happen while seeking a vision quest during the same time .
Finally snowing here (mid - eastern michigan). Fun to watch! We use an aluminum drag on our trails for the sled dogs. You are not just surviving ringworm, you’re thriving with ringworm lol
My best friend passed year and half ago, you are so blessed. Have to say so hard to find a great friend like I had to even hang out with. This video made me smile with a tear TBH
An excellent example of what happens when there is no adult supervision! Gotta admit to feeling a little vertigo when you guys were up on the sky deck!
You work all spring, summer and fall, just to enjoy your winter playground, and it paid off! Just think what you can build this year to make it even more fun!
Ryan, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing nothing all day. Those day's get even better if ya have a gusto or cocktail to go with them, and i'm thinking that you guy's did. From a former winter camper to another. Take Care Brother
I’m shocked how much I enjoy this type video. I really enjoy your perspective and ability to show what’s enjoyable in everything you do. Seriously, Thank you for doing this for us(Me). Cheers 🍻
This is the time of year I start to really miss my place in Houghton Co. I can't get to it this late in the year unless I was maintaining the road, and my long driveway. Love your videos. Glad you have one goofy friend that gets it. I'm envious. I've had a lots of friends come up once or twice and I think the silence freaks them out.
I was born and raised in the U.P. I can tell you if you plan to spend time in the cabin during the middle of winter, you better plan on buying a snow machine and snow shoes. The snowmobile will break down. I moved away from the U.P because I was sick of winters. Winters are fun when you are young, not so much when you are old. I love visiting the U.P. During the summer, not interested in visiting during winter. If I were you I would have a wood stove in the cabin.
Just kids playin' in the woods. My favorite memories! Fresh deep snow. No time constraints (except dinner). Play all day long. Sleep like a rock! Looks like I'm 50 years over due . . .
How about just a 4 x 8 foot Welcome to Ringworm sign, with those Patreon names underneath the headline? It could also say “If you lived here, you’d shower outside.”
A perfect winter project for you Ryan would be to make a pair of roycroft snowshoes. They're very easy to make and use. I made mine using lamp wick for the bindings. Mine work way better than my expensive MSR ones. I'm going to make more pairs trying out different woods and sizes. Love your vids!
Good morning, Sir. I just wanted to drop some band names for you to check out on your free time in case you are interested. Keller Williams, Leftover Salmon, Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio Band, Phil and Friends, 7 walkers. I appreciate all the footage you provide and what you are doing! I spent 4 months in the bush when I was younger in Aniak AK, so I have a taste of what it's like to be out there with nothing but wilderness. I miss it a ton. Anyway, these bands are worth a listen if you haven't heard of them. Be safe and look forward to watching more! you have some awesome ideas that I will implement.
that snow is really great. I don't live in an area that gets snow much anymore and I do miss it. You guys are having way too much fun. take care. love your channel
You guys are just having way too much fun! I laughed all the way through. Made me miss the snow so much I want to move from the coast back to the mountains.
Dude love your channel I look forward to it every Saturday. I live in southwest Michigan on 18 acres was wondering how many acres your property in the UP was. And does it but up to any national or state forest?
As cool as it is to watch your creative process and improvised problem-solving it’s really great to see you enjoying the fruits of your labor. As a snow lover downstate, I’m pretty jealous; we’re getting skunked down here! Anyway even though I don’t live in the woods (yet) I’ve adopted the philosophy that ‘life is a camping trip’ and your videos are great for keeping that vibe!
Man, this looks so fun. Building shit in the woods and hanging with a good friend. Living the life. One day I’ll get a piece of land and live the dream too. Baby steps. Keep up the good work.
I had an idea where you could re-use the leftover strips of wood from when you rip your board planks down and put them on the sides of your 4 wheeler garage for more protection from the wind blown snow/rain.
I love the upgrades you’ve made to the shower room and now that it’s enclosed so nicely a small wood or gas burning stove with rocks on top would make it a sweet shower/sauna room :)
Hey there, RW! Your marvelous shower made me think of tabi, the wooden clogs that are traditional Japanese footwear. I can see you whittling yourself a pair to wear during a shower to keep your feet off the cold floor. Fun video, thanks!
The snowy woods were beautiful. And I am glad I don't have to shovel it. So far this winter we haven't gotten much here in north/eastern Indiana. But I know heading into February that could change.
Have you done the drum test to see if any of the trees are hollow? Around you and where you will be in camp there would be a safe thing to test for. Stay safe, warm, and healthy!
this is my fave video so far! Snow in the woods, with a bit of wind gust ;-) That was proper fun, cat video level 5. Hope it snows a few more times out there this season.
A rug of some sort on the floor would provide some sort of insulation and a wood stove would be helpful. Insulated curtains on the windows would make it less drafty.
One of the issues with temperature control (the things you mentioned) is that many of them relate to heat flux or rate of loss to the environment not achieving comfortable temperature for a short time. Comfort is related to room volume and heater output. While those things will cause you to lose heat faster to the environment (sucking down propane tanks) the air infiltration mitigation you’ve done alone (no wind) will allow you to be perfectly comfortable. As you tighten up the cabin, propane utilization rate will definitely drop.
looks like a great place to have fun for sure . i do miss the woods in the winter . that dead silence maybe the wind blows a little . you should make a sled to pull behind the four wheeler . you could pull trees with it and people and what ever . it would be great for packing down the snow . and your logs would not get paced with dirt and ice . maybe use a piece of tin for the bottom runners . or just a flat bottom . be a fun project for sure . just a thought . ok well see ya next Saturday. or sooner .work safe stay warm .
In your cabin with L.P. Heat you maybe should have a backup heat of a wood stove because if you have a week long blizzard and you run out of L.P. U could freeze to death
A person needs a day when he sits around with a friend now and then. They come more often at my age.😂🤣 I like to spend them watching science shows, and ringworm, of course.
What we do at our dog kennel is with a four wheeler we pulled behind it. Three tires connected with a chain and drag our trails with it. You should think about doing that. Any time it snows you just rip around on your ATV with the tires pulled behind
Nice video Ryan! Amazing how you can talk to nobody and record? Winter wonderland for quads👍 Great times! Lots of snow! Next time! B Deacon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
YOU COULD USE does icicles to recuperate as frozen water, by unthawing them, compare to snow which you need a whole lot of snow to melt to have a liter of water ... your huge icicles are equivalent to 3, 4 or more liters (4.4 li to 1 imperial gallon, I'm Canadian)of water ... and also you could built yourself a cold room (or even a fridge) by accumulating your icicle in sawdust ... like they you to do in the old days before electricity ... it is a simple suggestion ... keep your good work and may you be bless ... I enjoy your weekly visit to my schedule ...
Hey Ryan since you have such a lovely colony out there have you ever thought about renting them out to some people( you know) that may want to come out that way and spend the weekend?
Clean the pistol with Ronsonol lighter fluid. Strip it down, clean all the parts, removing all the oil. Reassemble and lubricate with powdered graphite. Oil gets gummy in the cold, so don't use it. Also not all gun oils are created equal, for example, I love RemOil, but if you store the weapon for an extended period of time, RemOil gets sticky, very sticky.

There's a wood stove in the lean-to tool shed. He installs it in episode #2.
As a 68 year old man with health issues now in my life I enjoy watching you do the things I wish I’d done more of when I was younger
Need to make a 3-tire drag plow for storms like this (Or at least drag a 4"x4"x4' pieces of timber on chains) to level out the pathways.
Drag a nice piece of chain link fencing with bricks wired to it..
I never noticed b4 but when u 2 r together at the Worm, u both become 100% youpers!
Quite comical and awesome!
First timer , love your craftsmanship but your sense of humor is uniquely entertaining, kinda like stand up in the woods. thanks .
