absolutely complete nonsense, dont watch this video
Nah im out when you said he doesn't do anything to improve his skills against voldemort. Theres so many examples of it in each book. The most glaring one is dumbledores army
That's why this is a critique of the movie, not the books, I do state that pretty clearly in the intro.
@@InsurgentYT3 buddy did you read the rest of his comment? "Dumbledores army" was shown in the movies smh. I don't think u watched the movies either

Okay?
Hence why the video is only a commentary on the movies, not the books.
@@InsurgentYT3 yea I realized after and added a different comment. You have my support on this one, sir. The movies are hot trash
because I read all the books before seeing the movies. I want to ask people who never read the books.... if they make sense alone.
@@lisarowalt5537 they don’t make sense
@lisarowalt5537 vaguely. They are good as movies, but fail at world building on their own merit.
Better title: "I hate the Harry Potter FILMS, and You Should Too." Almost all movies adapting a book to the big screen have to cut several things out. With the Harry Potter story being so large and complicated, they barely did the story justice. You maybe get 60% of the story in the films. Read the books or listen to the audiobooks, your opinion will change drastically.
Just changed the title, thanks for pointing that out!
The time turner helped protect the lives of 2 people - Sirius and Buckbeak.
But not saving the wizarding world when voldemort is attacking? It created wayyyy more plot holes than it solved
@@InsurgentYT3 time travel is a very tricky thing and Dumbledore also warns them to not meddle with timeline too much. Voldemort was fought by destroying the Horcruxes and then it was easy as he was once more a mortal.
it's you buddy.
In case you wanna know Voldemort's motivation, he was obsessed with Dark magic. Like Witchcraft and black potions. He was a brilliant student at House Slytherin. But Dark Magic was a toxic notion for him so they had to lock him in an institution. And his obsession grew so potently due to how much power it had. Plus he had Thanatophobia, and Dark Magic was a path way to many abilities he urged for. And then it corrupted him into his deformed and eerie abomination willing to defile the wizarding world
Avada Kedavra!
If this is why the movies suck then yea the movies suck
I endured this 11 minutes and 57 seconds of nonsense. I have read the books at least twice and watched each movie sequels at least thrice. I am now a proud holder of an endurer of a terrible Harry Potter movies review. Was this reviewer abused as a child? Add my thumbs down to the count.
Using child abuse as a mean to offend (specially because of some movie review) someone says a lot about the kind of person you are.
@@Victor-rb6pq As your comment does about yourself. That was a tongue-in-cheek, although it can still be true. Many people who try to bring down others have a history of child abuse.

@@alembess9129 And he wans't trying to "bring someone down". He gave his opnion about a movie franchise, as is his right to do so! So what, is it a crime to dislike a movie ? @@InsurgentYT3 btw i don't necessarily disagree w u, i j don't rly agree lol (i left my reasons in another comment)
I like how you weren't just hating like some ppl do, and actually giving reasons for disliking the series. I'm a massive potterhead and I'll try to give my defense.
From what i gathered, I think the main reason you dislike the movies is that there are a lot of plot holes, and not everything makes a ton of sense, I think most of that is because the movies don't go to deep into details since they couldn't in just 2 hours.
The movies were specifically made to the book readers. Yes, many good movies can stand alone as movies, Lord of the Rings is probably the best example of this (although imo Hunger Games comes close). But Harry Potter is a pretty difficult book to turn into a movie. Too much happened in the book for the movie to show all of it, so they just showed WHAT happened instead of explaining WHY it happened. In the books we're in Harrys head the entire time, hearing his thoughts and all, which is hard for the movies to show.
One thing to note is that the LOTR books were, in many ways, easier to make into a movie. Mostly because Tolkien was EXTREMELY descriptive (which is good), if you've read his books you'll know he can go on forever describing landscapes and sceneries and go into extreme detail on whats happening, which can be showed in seconds in a movie. Rowling didn't really do that, she usually got straight to the point, which means there was a lot more action than LOTR.
However part the reason the Potter movies were such a success was because of the way it perfectly aligned with book, anyone who read the books would perfectly understand whats happening. However the non book readers didn't really get everything, because if the films explained everything, they would have to cut some other scenes. So basically if you read the books, you don't need the movies to explain everything since you already know it, it can just play out. Explaining it would make them leave out some stuff the book readers wanted to see.
Another thing thats kind of inconsistent about the movies is the amount of directors they had, they went through 4 I think. The worst director imo was the one for the 4th movie (my least favorite movie). So the movies have a slightly different feel to them.
I have a lot of problems with the writing tho, Steve Kloves wrote 7 of them (the only movie he didn't write was the fifth one which is my personal fav), and I just didn't like some of it. The worst example is how they made Ron stupid and Hermione a goddess.
I would recommend reading the books, it's at the 4th book where it starts to get really good. The first three were mostly targeting younger kids, the 4th and up are more targeted towards a teen/ya audience. The books are way better then the movies imo.
also just fyi Rowling said before that she regretted making the time turners since they created so many plot holes (and a bad spin off). So they were all destroyed in the 5th book (not mentioned in the movies that I remember).
If you have any questions/arguments about anything related to hp, reply to this comment, I'll answer.
Oh wow that was way longer than I thought it was 😂😂
Thanks for the info! I actually never knew about the multiple directors they had over the course of the series, but looking back on the films, that makes a lot of sense. It is a shame they didn't have one director able to complete a full adaptation of the books because I imagine if they did, the movies would flow together in a far more compelling way with less plot holes and inconsistencies
@@InsurgentYT3 yeah fs

Ouch, who hurt you? Yes WB cashed in, but they did with other 1000’s of movies they’ve produced over the years too 😂.
Agree about the magic usage, not all of it, non verbal spells are covered off in the books. And the wandless stuff is usually simple spells done by the higher up wizards which I’m actually not sure is in the books.
But agreed the world built by Rowling does have issues on how magic is used and there’s plenty of room for ‘why didn’t they just use such and such spell?’ And the later Magical Creatures films haven’t helped with that.
Rowling realised her mistake with the time turners and they all got destroyed in the 5th book I think.
But yeah I agree, in a world where there is literally a spell for everything, it’s pretty difficult to maintain a cogent view on the stakes when they can turn each other into teapots whenever they want.
I enjoyed the books.
The Lord of The Rings is better.
Nope hahaha, I didn't read the books so nothing to compared with and thus I love Harry Potter Movies❤
“This is only a critique on the movies. I never read the series so I’m not critiquing the books.”
*proceeds to shit on the books about things he doesn’t understand because he didn’t read them*
Dude, I hated the movies. I thought they left out a ton of important information and butchered the story. I don’t like the directing and most of the acting.
There’s even issues with aspects of the books’ plot. But so many of your issues with the overall story and plot line are either explained in the books, or changed for the worse in the movies.
So, in your opinion, is it worth it to go and read the books? I stopped at the 3rd because they seemed to be a bit too childish for me.
Then why make a video, you didn't say they were childish in the video? @@InsurgentYT3
Hate? The films: Nah. The books: Um. The author: MURDER (she made me love something she wrote with hate in mind.)
I can basically sum up the solution to most of your issues with the plot and characters with the followng; read the books.
But thats my point, if the movies rely on the books to be good, then they arent good films
You just keep hating on it because of the Movies if you just hate the movies then the title should "Why I Hate The Harry Potter Films"
That's fair, im probably going to change that. Thanks for pointing that out!
As someone who grew up loving and reading the series over and over and watched all the movies as they came out, the Potterheads here clearly haven't gone out and indulged in other media that isnt just surface level dross. Either that or they just arent old enough to understand what the video is saying.
Some valid criticisms but I do and still absolutely LOVE THIS FRANCHISE AND THE MOVIES!
Good for you
You’re getting a lot of hate for this video. I honestly disagree with your overall opinion of the entire series, but there are some great points made. The inconsistent magic has always been something I have laughed at (I have read this series over 14 times and watched the movies countless times). But I think the world building is undeniably solid when taking consideration for the fact that they have condensed large books into normal length movies. I don’t think you should be getting the hate, but only agree with half your video
Finally! Someone who actually rationalizes why they think im wrong. Thank you! Almost every other comment is just people complaining without giving a reason lol
I stopped the video after he said, "I only read the first three books.". If you don't have any knowledge about a subject, please don't have an opinion about that subject. This is the problem of this era.
Well, you don't have to have to have read the books to have opinions on the movies. Discrediting someone's opinion simply because they haven't read all the books is frankly just stupid.
A story need not have one single good protagonist. That's the most overrated storyline. In Harry Potter it was about friendships and family. The 3 stuck till the very end.
Only read the first 3 books of the series, Meh. Welcome to your opinion. This series was my childhood.
I absolutely loved every one of the harry potter movies and the books
to be fair, harry's plot armour exists to an extent as a protagonist.... but no i love harry potter because its fun. don't think about it too seriously, it IS for children anyways - i found it fun even after a rewatch. so, i dont hate it but yes it can be nonsensical sometimes
That's completely fair, I honestly think the main reason why I dislike the series is because of how delusional the fanbase is when it comes to the quality of the films. Are they fun and entertaining, yes, but im tired of people acting like they are the grealest films ever
@@InsurgentYT3 hahah the fanbase really feeds itself with those fanfictions and fanarts honestly. i used to love teenage heartthrob tom felton
@@InsurgentYT3 I don't really think most HP fans believe they're the greatest films ever. Some of them do and yes, those potterheads are completely delusional. The HP films are fun but nothing special in terms of great cinema or even great blockbuster cinema. But I do genuinely believe that section of fans is a small minority.

I don't think I ever watched all the movies and it's been a long time since I read the books. When I did try to reread the books I just got bored and stopped. I think most overrated ever is probably an overstatement but I do think it's overrated. There's a lot of lazy world building. There's some pretty common fanon explaining why the pronunciation stuff changes but it's admittedly never explained in the books or movies.
no its just cus u cant notice the foreshadowing and all the interesting stuff like how freds death was foreshadowed like 10 times
WHY DONT YOU JUST READ THE BOOKS FIRST BUDDY.
Because I wanted to make a video on the movies buddy, not the books. If a movie relies on the books to be good, they aren't good movies
Sometimes I forget the movies were just okay. I usually just avoid the Potterverse, because supporting the franchise is directly supporting the spread of bigotry.

Bruh L video
This series is so overrated and flawed. People that think Harry Potter is one the same level as TLOTR are just
wrong on every level. The Lord of the Rings films are a piece of art while Harry Potter is a mediocre mess of a
franchise pandering to teenagers and uncultured millenials that don't care about quality.
all your examples are so lackluster and have little meaning, with minor connections to the actual plot. You can't judge an entire series through a 11 minute video because u simply lack enough info and evidence to conclude why it's bad. Earned a dislike :)
which examples are lackluster? And what do you mean no evidence? the entire video is me just providing evidence lol
all of the examples are lack luster. ALL OF THEM. and i said "lack evidence" not "no evidence"
@@bobaroot3789, yeah no. You're wrong. Where was the impact of time turners on magical society ever described in the books? She wrote the line of them "all being destroyed by the one guy who tripped" because she didn't want to do the world building that time travelling devices would have on her world. I'm sorry, but to believe EVERY SINGLE time turner was in that cabinet is hilarious.
@@robinjeffery-melton8077 when did i mention time turners? and if you are talking about that being a good example, i don't see how you can call the whole series bad from not mentioning time turners in the later movies/books.

You would appreciate some of the other criticisms (Shaun's video is great) of Harry Potter on youtube, and a lot of yours fall on the books as well as the films. It's worth noting the author is a real piece of work...
Yeah, that's exactly why I tried to talk about her as little as possible in the video. I didn't want to get burned at the stake for accidentally saying something wrong lol
Please dude, just get over it.
I just don’t like how they didn’t show many spells in the movie. Like we needed more magic, not just constant talking.
people like you are the problem
go watch an action movie if you want pure action, the talking bits build character and story, even star wars had long intermissions between fights to flesh out its characters. Harry Potter's story is more central to the character's fighting motivations than anything.
I agree with 80% of what you said. I think the HP movies are a bastardation of the books. Once you get to the Goblet of Fire in the book it becomes Harry starts earning magic and it's the adults that ignore Harry that fuck everything up.
And yes time travel is stupid at the best of times to where all time magic was destroyed off the face of the HP verse at the end of Order.
Mostly I disagree with you saying LotR is good. Those movies are a worse bastardation than the HP movies. I been a fan of LotR since the 80's and when so much important stuff way through out, characters were completely altered, and motivations were fabricated. It pisses me off.
If you read the books first, the movies are total shit no matter what the movie is.
Having read the Lord of the Rings books before I watched the movies, I completely disagree. While there were many changes from the books and parts that I would certainly want to see adapted to the big screen, they still captured the essence of the books and the messages behind them. Change is necessary when adapting a novel to film, and I think it was handled exceptionally well in that case
@@InsurgentYT3 Well, I couldn't tolerate the changes, and to me it was not the story. The movie was when it came to Strider was a reluctant hero instead of an exile king returning in triumph. Moreover, the removal of Saraman was unforgivable.
The worse part was completely changing Theramoore from a wise man that knows peril to basically a clone of him older brother who tried to take the ring.
I am of the opinion that the plot was altered beyond consideration and could have been named something else. and it would not even be considered plagiarism.
XD i read through all the comments so far and y'all are so insanely die hard fans you cant take legitemate criticism when it comes. Shes not a great writer, and thats okay. We all enjoyed the story, but that doesnt mean the story or its portrayal through media is perfect and should be studied for how to tell a story or write characters. We had fun, we took a journey with the characters. Its okay to say the writing could have been better.
