This is the backdrop to this game: In 2000 the Canes went up to Washington and lost the game. That game was officiated by Washington Referrees and the Canes claimed they were heavily biased on Washington's favor. Miami lost and came back to win the remaining games on their schedule. The loss costs the canes the National Championship and the canes came into the game holding a grudge. The Canes had something like 37 seven players who would go on to play in the NFL.
I was there. The atmosphere was crazy. This team was ridiculous. They could've put 75 on them if they wanted to. Some people just don't realize how good this roster was, when frank gore was back up as a true freshman! Vince eilfork was back up! Antrel rolle played special teams!
They did score 65. So in your mind Miami took the foot off the pedal but if they didn’t, they could’ve scored 10 more? LOL. I’m guessing you meant to write Miami scored 100.
2001 Canes....best NCAA team I have ever seen...not even close.... I remember this game I lived in Columbus Ohio and the local ABC was showing a different game had to go to a sports bar to watch it
@@craigharris41 lmfao you USC fans really are as dumb as the UCLA people say, 2001 Canes is the greatest team ever assembled and majority agree with that except you I guess.
i was there, all i remember from that night was when we were walking into the OB, up the ramps, thru the tunnels, there were a few UW fans, not a lot but a few, and i remember feeling sorry for them bc they were getting abused and they had no chance before the game even started .. the OB was electric that night
Miami had one of the best offensive lines in college football history that year. 4 out of the 5 starting offensive linemans played at least 5 years in the NFL and were starters in the NFL.
Miami was good. And the SEC was down that year. LSU upset Tennessee in the SEC title game. And that was the reason Nebraska was the sacrificial lamb to Miami in Pasadena in 2001 and not the Vols.
Miami had two tough games in November out of 12 that season. Boston College in Chestnut Hill. Everybody remembers that Ed Reed lateral after that interception near the goal line. Then in the Va Tech reg season finale they stopped the Hokies from tying them on that 2-pt conversion stop. Then the beat down at the Rose Bowl of the Huskers like old times.
Look at all the players that Miami had behind the starters. You had Clinton Portis and Nahjae Davingport as the starting running backs. You had Willis Mcgahee and Frank Gore as the backup running backs. You had Sean Taylor as a backup safety. Before he messed up his life in the pros, Kellen Winslow was a very good college tightens behind Jeremy Shockey. You had Ed Reed, Philip Buchanan Mike Rumph and James Lewis as the starting defensive backs. You had Jonathan Vilma and DJ Williams at linebackers and Bryan Mc Kinney at the left offensive tackle and you had Vince Wilford as a backup defensive tackle and you had Andre Johnson at wide receiver. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes team was loaded. That one lost team(lost a close controversy game at Notre Dame) would have given that 2001 team a run for it's money as the greatest Hurricanes team. Because they didn't beat Notre Dame and win the National Championship, the 2001 team gets the nod. That 1988 team led by Steve Walsh did something that no other team probably did. That year, they beat 6 conference champions. They beat Maryland the ACC champions, they beat either Auburn or South Carolina the SEC champions, they beat Arkansas, the SWC champions, they beat, they beat Cal, the Pac 10 champions, They beat Michigan the Big Ten champions and they beat BYU,.
I still remember the game they played the year before in 2000 in Washington. They lost their comeback bid fell short. I still remember portis making a name for himself and never looked back
Thanks👍 Back before Miami's budget became dwarfed by those of state universities. Miami doesn't have state tax dollars or a 100 year history of alumni giving on its side. Just don't see it ever returning to its Camelot days, which lasted only 2 decades. Of course, there's no discounting the Orange Bowl's x-factor.
This was a revenge game. Miami lost to Washington in 2000 that cost them a nattie. In the Sugar Bowl, they took out their frustrations on Florida in Spurriers last SB. Then the Canes didn't lose another game until that controversial ending in the 2002 NC Game in the desert against Maurice Clarett and Ohio State. Revenge games are brutal against Miami. The Notre Dame game in 1989 case in point.
Looking back at these old school UM games, I never realized just how overrated Ken Dorsey was as a COLLEGE QB. Don't get me wrong, it used to piss me off even then how much credit he got for UM's success, but dude was literally an average QB surrounded by the best collection of talent in the history of college football.
yep, he's a big reason we lost to ohio state the next year. All you had to do was make him move an inch or two to the left or right and it was an INT 1 out of 3 times.
This was the beating Miami was THIRSTING to dish out. Washington won some BS game vs Miami the year before. That, plus the corrupt polls, cost the Canes a shot at the Championship Game vs Oklahoma. This game was pure vengeance. If it was 100-0 it still wouldnt have been enough.

The RB depth chart for Miami in this game: Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, & Willis McGahee. 👀
