Love how the ring turned out! Budding metal smith here, can’t wait to buy tools to start creating 😄 Really enjoy your videos and seeing how everything turns out! Love from Scotland 🏴
Hiya Lady Stardust, Okay, you've done it again. Created a fantastic art piece from fundamental, humble beginnings. I love it; it would not fit or complement my thick fingers. But it does work and complete a lady's hand. I love your style of demonstrating this to us. So easy to follow your style and skill in producing this masterpiece and enjoying your love of you're doing it. I wish I had a fraction of your skill in designing work like this; for now, I'll keep making what I can. I'm going to be helping my brother, Graham, to learn to make jewellery. Now he is an artist rather than an engineer like me, so I look forward to seeing his work as he learns how to turn ideas into jewellery. Stay safe, dear lady, Steve xx
Hi Steve! 💕 Thank you so much, it's so wonderful to read your kindest comment and feedback, I appreciate it a lot! I hope the ring will find a happy owner, perhaps it will be an adventurous lady with a flair for statement and originality 😀 This video was a perfect example of when two people share a passion for photography and films, my friend Kasia has helped me film it (well, she was the one holding the camera the entire time!) and I'm very happy with the result. She's a professional photographer and what is a film, if not a motion picture? 😀 Graham is very lucky to have you as a teacher, I'm sure he'll learn a lot from you! I'm looking forward to seeing his creations. I wish him an exciting silversmithing journey 💕 Thank you so much for watching today, Steve, have a wonderful day. Stay safe 💕 X
Thank you, you made my day! It was a joint effort with my friend who was filming this time and I think we did a good job :) I'm looking forward to making more videos together with Kasia. Super happy that you liked watching it! Thank you ❤
Oh wow, thank you thank you!! That's very kind and I appreciate it a lot! Kasia, my friend, is a professional photographer and she's getting into filming as well, I think she's very good! 😍 There will be more videos like this one on the channel going forward 🥰 (well, the music and sounds will be more balanced haha, we'll be working on that and on more interesting shots as well)
Oh my gosh, that's wonderful! Thank you so much, I'm glad you did 🥰 I wanted to create something that would be interesting and relaxing, but also quite exciting to watch 😀
Amazing video! The music is perfect too ❤ Can I be a pain and ask which stamp/tool you are using to create the texture on the petals? My lines using the foredom are wobbly, but that tool looks like it would be perfect for lines or fur effects 😊
I'm back watching your video.. you have an amazing collection of gems/stones/cabs..... I have same drawer system its the best... my question is... I am in Canada and can not seem to find good silver sheets or a seller for that matter, they definitely never have the plastic protective coating :( Do you have a trick to bezel your tiny 4mm etc turquoise cabs? Thank you.... love from Canada
What a beautiful ring!!!❤❤❤ What a Statement piece 😍😍😍. I have a question for you to see if you have the same problem that I have for Hugh ring statement piece… Do your clients ask you to design them some earring’s and if they ask them to be large or smaller???? Something just simple????? Most of my clients ask me for smaller earrings something just simple!!!! ❤❤❤ Bih Hugs 🤗, Autumn Michelle
Hello Basia Thank you for your inspiring videos. This ring is a dream. I'm slowly getting the courage to take on a project like this. I'm always amazed at your great equipment and clean place and have a question. Which polishing wheel do you use after blackening the silver so that the drawing remains black and is not polished out? It's probably a felt wheel? Thank you very much!! Maryvonne
Thank you so much, sweetheart! 💕 Just read your comments and you really made my day :) To remove the patina I actually use blue bristle wheel attachment from 3M or Dedeco. It's medium, so it doesn't create any scratches, but it's coarse enough to efficiently remove the patina. Then I only use the green one to finish. You could also use steel wool, which is great for removing patina and creating nice shading :) Edit: I think I mean gradient lol
@@hanaaoweidat9421 sure! I have two profiles, one is for my jewellery brand: @starfustmine.art and the other one is for metalsmithing: @artofmetalsmithing, they are also both linked under the video 💕 Thank you so much for following me and for watching my videos 💜
I use three different ones, Dremel, Pepetools and most recently Orca. They are all great and suitable for various jobs. Orca is a more pricey one, so I would recommend starting with Dremel and/or Pepetools. Dremel has a finer flame, perfect for dainty jewellery, while Pepetools has a bigger and stronger flame, better for soldering larger pieces and those, where quick heating up is necessary.
Hi! I would love if you could share what that benchtop belt sander tool you are using is at 11:27 --- I had to give up my 20'x20' workshop when we moved --- for one dedicated corner in the garage and 2 benches and so I have lost most of my space for power tools like this. (My belt sander was a huge staple and I was so sad to lose it. I've been relegated to filing by hand and it's killing me!). -- Beautifully produced video by the way. You have such a clean and organized space.
Of course! It's by Pepetools, I've linked it directly in the video description. I'm very happy with it :) Filing by hand can be tedious and exhausting ;)
I hurried to your description beneath the video for a link to the cutters you used on your bezel wire. I didn’t see them. Can you please tell me what kind/model they are? Do they cut flush on both sides! Thanks for another educational video!
These are Lindstrom shears, they're excellent! I'm not sure if they're cutting flush on both sides, I think just one side is flush. I love the return springs, which makes it much easier to use. The spring in my old Shears would fall off constantly. Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 💕
Thank you! Two full days of filming, almost two of editing. Some videos may only take one day to film, but the ones with the crafting process usually take longer. Though it was a lot of fun and I enjoy making these videos 😀 If you meant the ring itself, even without filming it would take about two days to make. The result is worth it though!
What thickness silver sheet would you recommend for backing a bezel set stone for a ring? Just starting out and want to make a cabuchon set rimg for my wife. Love your videos.
I think 0.50mm would be a great thickness to start with. Won't add a lot of weight to the piece, but will be sturdy enough. 0.60mm - 0.70mm will also work for the same reason, but 0.50mm is more budget friendly and easier to solder with a hand torch 😀 I recommend this thickness for larger gemstones. If you're using a smaller one, then a bit thicker sheet would also work. Good luck! I'm sure your wife will love it ❤️
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I've created my very first silver band, using the info from your channel. I can't wait for the next part of the journey. Beautiful design! What is the black patina and where do you buy it? It looks easier to use than liver of sulphur pieces or gel.

What glue should I use for sticking the drawing to the metal? 🤔
I use thin double sided sticky tape, as for the glue, I think you can use a regular one, but I'm not sure, I've never used glue
Quick question. I see you stamped the petals but then also engraved it in. Is that just to make it more sharp?
Yes, I wanted to add more details and deepen the lines :)

What are you using to turn your flower petal sketches into stickers? The name of that sticky roll please?
It's a double sided tape, I stick my drawings onto it and then stick it onto the metal :)
