I was kind of skeptical about Van Dijk's signing at first but honestly, £70 million seems like an absolute steal for him now. What a beast!
This is one of the best videos from you guys! It would be amazing if you guys keep shining light on the background work involved in football clubs! Great work guys!
@@rahulprasad6573 if you wanna see that kinda stuff, go check out tifo football, great series
Com'on 70 million is still a lot of money. Instead of saying it is a steal it would be appropriate to say it's money well spent.
Samar 8 in the football industry it was a bargain
@@alternative8234 when Barcelona paid twice that much for Coutinho to sit on the bench, it seems like a proper bargain
This would have been the perfect video to shine a light on the man behind Ajax’s recent success: Marc Overmars. He is responsible for the financial succes that has allowed our European rise, buying players like Davison Sanchez for 4 and Milik for 2 million euros and selling them for 40 and 32 million euros respectively. He has overseen a rise in wage structure and selling power that makes the acquisition of Tadic and Blind, both for around 15 million, possible and will sell De Jong and de Ligt for at least a combined 130 million euros this summer. Making us financially more viable is instrumental in our (European) growth. He has made smart manager appointments too with Bosz and Ten Hag. He has bought Ziyech, loaned Traore, consistently takes risk on foreign unknowns such as Nico Tagliafico, Sanchez etc with players like Lainez and Magellan coming this winter. Honestly one of the best footballing directors in Europe I think.
It wouldn’t have been the perfect video though, because he hasn’t moved clubs.

Lainez won’t be join Ajax... Ajax offers 7 million, which in my opinion that is too much money for an 18 year old, his club América wants 12 million. He is actually worth around 2.5 million dollars
pm84 mm you know how much PSG payed for an 18-year-old?
Over €150 million.
I don’t think 12 mil is too bad tbh 😂
Particularly given that Lainez is extremely talented.
As a fellow Ajax fan, here is what I think of our transfer policy-
Ajax has certainly made some very good signings and the team may be in good shape at the moment, but I don't think that all of it was good business per say. Let me reiterate what I actually mean by that- Blind, a player that was unwanted by Man United was sold to us for our record of 15 mil. That needs to change. We identify the right targets(mostly), but then pay excessive amounts for them. Also, signings like Huntelaar(34) and Tadic(29) are hurting the direction the club was going in in my opinion, as this sort of ideal place for youngsters to play in an easier league and then get more experience in European competitions. As a final verdict, I don't think we'll get anywhere near 130 mil for our defenders but it will be great if we do as they are inevitably gonna leave us.
@@samjgollings8664 changed their clubs doesn't mean switching but having a great influence over their results
Technically Ed Woodward changed the club too
michael edward is liverpool legend! Liverpool almost build him a statue but last minute fekir deal broken.
Can be resurrected given Klopps track record of not pursuing alternatives
The deal purely broke down due to Fekir failing the medical. His knee was a significant alarm which they weren't aware of when they organised the 70 million offer, consequently they wanted to reduce the price which Lyon weren't willing to agree on. Not really Liverpool's fault.
Well, no Fekir no problem
Coutinho's contract had a clause inserted by Edwards.
Which said if Barca want to buy another Liverpool player , They have to pay 100 million extra over the fees.
That's amazing buisness right there.
For only 2 years and 1 year has passed...
We robbed Barca on the Coutinho deal tbh.
Coutinho was good but wasn't worth 140+ million.
sumedh ubhare I can see them buying Firmino next season when that runs out
Abraham 123 they have suarez
PeekDropz isnt he 32 though?
Dortmund director is a beast... Last year they were struggling to beat middle table holders..... But this year they defeated Bayern and atletico with clear football... What a magical transformation...
What about Igli Tare and his work at Lazio? They include Ciro Immobile, Milenkovic-Savic, Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto
This Liverpool guy has done great business with much less budget and probably is the best among them
Dortmunds Michael zorc is better but clearly you're a liverpool fan
Letting Coutinho go might be one of the best things that has happened to Liverpool in many years
@@zwei2576 Yeah but it doesn't mean anything if they don't win major silverware at the end of the season.
Monchi is the best
@@zwei2576 I honestly think we robbed Barcelona on this one
United about to have both Ralf Rangnick and Paul Mitchell
very interesting and informational content, refreshing change to clickbait videos lol
Firmino was 25 million!!
LJ W 29 million actually but still
Actually it could be much less than that. Somewhere around £22-23 million with addition of few millions more which could go as high as £29 million IF once again IF some criteria are met. What are the criteria? still ambiguous but i reckon finishing top 4 which liverpool failed to do so.
@@GREGGFOWL failed to do so apart from the last 2 seasons?
Lewandowski was free!!
@@natascrsed i'm still in the context of how much liverpool have spent on firmino, which the payment will be finalized after first season ended. Meaning when liverpool didnt finish in top 4 liverpool would only need to pay £22-23 million only NOT £29 million (of course this only happen if the top 4 finish clause were true).
No wonder beppe marotta is such a good scout, he can watch two players at once
Luis Campos was pretty good for Monaco too
Surprised not to see Marcel Brands in here, the talent he found for PSV and now Everton, unbelievable
That Edwards guy. I don't really hear about Sporting Director's a lot, but he changed Liverpool a lot. Well done.
CorzaGaming He is LFC hero outside the pitch after Klopp. I still remember Klopp wants Draxler, and he give Klopp Egyptian King Salah.
This should be useful for my FM save💪🏾💓
Mann!! This was a great video.
Does anyone else agree that FD should do a top ten of champions league teams the exceeded expectations and another of teams that underperformed?
Yaser Cisneros they did that on Sunday Vibes podcast
didn't expect those two at number #1 #2 . btw when ragnick was coaching 1899 hoffenheim back in the day, they bought firminio for 4mio in 2011 and luiz gustavo for 1 mio in 2008 (who won a treble with bayern later)
Pep loves some txiki-txaka
Uh, football daily do you even know what Txiki Begiristan looks like? 6:11-6:14 6:19-6:22 7:15-7:23 that is not Txiki. That is Ferran Soriano you are zooming in on all the time
yeah man i was pretty sure txiki was the older man and i got confused from the video! Thank you
@@kostasvava6156 Quite embarrasing they could not get this right.
Pelé the Hedgehog half the info here is bs..just wanna get the vid out quick without it being accurate
Charles Xavier I understand that they need time of as well but this is clearly not good enough. If they make top 10s in advance they can at least make them correct
Sound sounds better than usual! (Good work boys)
Honorbale Mention: Max Eberl from Gladbach. He made many smart and cheap transfers, and since he is in charge Gladbach became a club with aspiration for Europe but when he started the club was threatend by relegation.
Sorry für my bad english.
But great video, can agree with everyone on the list
Don't forget that Rangnick was the man behind Hoffenheim's rise from nothingness to the Bundesliga as well.
yeah had nothing to do with SAP pumping millions into the club
@@torben4741 Not SAP but Hopp himself. Also, money means nothing without a good concept of how to establish a club in the higher ranks, great work with young talents and actually knowing how to spend the money in order to achieve all this. There are plenty of examples how a lot of money was spent without seeing any proper results.
@@MrReese - Hopp had spent £120 million until Hoffenheim reached the Bundesliga in 2008. Back in those days, this was a ridiculous amount of money. Just for comparison, the highest transfer fee in that season was £32million for Robinho. Sorry to piss on your bonfire but any decent sports-director would have achieved similar results.
@@torben4741 Sources for this claim? And do not count the arena because that is per se has no correlation to success on the pitch.
@@MrReese - Here is the source - www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/european/2576464/Dietmar-Hopps-millions-put-TSG-1899-Hoffenheim-on-map-Football.html
Also, such a financially strong investor attracts additional investors that other clubs would never have received. Rangnick is an okay sports-director as long as he has the financial backing.
Emenalo was amazing! Look at salah now and de bruyne
Yes,Also Lukaku,Courtois and Mata, Christensen also I think
If possible can you make a video on what a director of football does and this video was spot on 💯
Micheal Zorc is the best.
Max Eberl should have been included
Something different from the normal (just players) got a ton of knowledge. Thanks! 💙
Guys you missed Fredi Bobic. He is the men behind the recent success of Eintracht Frankfurt. They were in relegation battle only two years ago and won the German cup this year. He had to rebuild the squad every season with almost no budget while having to make profit with sales. He was also voted "man of the year" by the biggest German sports magazine "kicker" for his achievements
Anyone notice they spelt genius wrong in the thumbnail
I think you'll be adding Everton sporting director Marcel Brands to this list soon!
Great video guys, congrats!
Anyway Marotta is not a sporting director but he is a CEO, so Paratici should be on this list
This might just be the best "10" video ever made.
Bravo (!) Damien Comolli. You made the team Fenerbahce has finished 2nd recent season made 17th half of this season.Great Work !
Fd can u do top 10 goalscorers of 2018
Brilliant video
Man u definitely needs one.
No Max Eberl????? You must be joking. He transformed a finanziall weak Mönchengladbach that was a club between 2-1 division into a financiall healthy club with new infrastructe fighting regular for international places and even champions league
Rosso blue and tomar lomar 😂😂😂class
Directors & Staff members are unsong Hero's.If David Gill & Mike Phelan were still a part of Man Utd the transition would have been a bit easy.
You could argue Stuart Weber could be on this list if he he does well with Norwich next year.
11:52 is not a picture of Roger Schmidt, it is Tayfun Korkut (Ex-Stuttgart-Coach)
« Transfer Genuis »
Fair enough
It's French. It's pronounced "shjon-wee". Zac is just trying to bring a bit of culture to us philistines.
EminentKnight isn’t it « génie » in French
EminentKnight no, Zac is just a spelling genuis
Sam Gollings 👏🏼👏🏼
Lol
Look out for raul sanllehi.. he did an incredible job and oversaw one of barcelonas most dominant periods in football and is currently the director of football at Arsenal!
I would really like to appreciate the research done in this vid as this is not the kind of information u can just look up on Wikipedia. Very well done!
They seemed to have completely missed probably Rangnicks greatest achievement of growing TSG Hoffenheim from a little club in a town with merely 3000 residents to a club competing in the Champions League
Favourite 10s ever...
Dont quite understand Monchi, who helped Sevilla to build the players that won 11 trophies, listed 3rd...
Stuart Webber for his work at Huddersfield and on going work at Norwich
For the Txiki Begiristain you have used photos of Ferran Sorriano.
It was curious you said nothing about Antero Henrique in FC Porto, now in PSG!!
Something that our team needs desperately CFC
Beppe always got one eye on talented players
TK Karlsen is missing. (Former AS Monaco)
Swear those pics weren’t txiki, he was in the background?
That picture wasnt roger schmidt, that qas tayfun korkut😉
Genuis in the thumbnail😂
Before see this video, I bet monchi is here
Why FC Porto Sports Director who made not millions but billions over the past year, Mr. Antero Henriques, now in PSG, aren't in the list?
I think Marotta rebuild a broken Juventus and turned them into European giants agains. He deserves more recognition
Where is Marc Overmars from Ajax?
What about Marcel brand's
What genius at FD wrote “Transfer Genuis” lol
Edwards was at Pompeii?
superb!
Beppe Marotta can look at two different places at the same time.
what about sammer at bayern??
I DID NOT WATCH THE VIDEO
BUT LET ME GUESS
*BEPPE MAROTTA*
IS IN THE LIST
NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV that’s actually an incredible prediction, you must be a genuis
Sam Gollings It’s obvious.
MashiatCOD99 I’m being sarcastic and making a joke about the thumbnail spelling mistake at the same time. Come on man.
@@samjgollings8664 Didn't see the misspelling.
other team fans might not know about all the damn genius thungs michael edwards puts out bc he keeps himself low profile. seriously this guy is a megamind
How Gallanj wasn’t mentioned is beyond me
I'm pretty sure it was Man City's Chairman who got Guardiola
You forgot to
Mention ralf rangnick’s work at hoffenheim.
Coutinho is back
7:14 oh when was this script written
Top 10 teams who shockingly won a title.
For the record Paul Mitchell didn't leave Spurs to join Leipzig. He left the club after continuously having his recommendations rejected, like Michy Batshuayi. He joined Leipzig a few months after I believe
Great vid
Genius is spelt wrong
Lmao tried making one like this just with best managers in the prem, took me hours just for it to be ruined by my broken english
7:15 X - doubt
Marotta should be no 2 or 1
Funny how the undeniable best side in the UK is third and 7 points of the trot. MC aren't winning the PL or CL this year. Mark my words
I was looking for this comment before I posted it myself. Considering Liverpool are in first and have a record of 3-1-1 against city in the last 5 meetings, and that city win came at the beginning of last season.
4-1-1 if you wanna count preseason friendlies as well
typical deluded scousers its only half season wait until the end cos u gonna bottle it again lol..
Who caught that low key shade at city @7:03
These days sporting directors play massive roles in football clubs and most hold more power in transfers over the actual manager
Jammie Dodger of course they do. That’s their job.
That's so true. I still remember Klopp wanted Draxler in the past, but then Edwards give him Salah. Just imagine what LFC do without him.
😂😂😂 the thumbnail says ‘Transfer Genuis’
Clearly a ‘Genuis’ wrote that.
Edwards/Klopp duo is working wonders. Name one bad signing they've made since 2015?(caulker doesn't count)
Wheres sven mislentat
Steve Walsh winning a title at Leicester and signing vardy, mahrez albrighton, Kante, drinkwater for next to nothing left off????
Come on guys
Michael Edwards
II
V
Ed Woodward
Marotta should be higher than #9. He oversaw two overhauls at Juve. One was offloading players like Del Piero, Cannavaro, Nedved, etc. The other was selling players like Pirlo, Pogba, Tevez and Vidal and buying great replacements for them. Before 2012, Juve was in shambles. They were losing a lot of money and transformed into a European Powerhouse once again. Beppe Marotta has a huge hand in that. I also credit Conte and Allegri as well for that.
How about Igli Tare in Lazio 🤔🤔🤔🤔
7:10
Best side in the UK are third in the league LUL
Also the "arguably best team in Europe" don't seem to have ever made a UCL final, nevermind won one.
@@matth5030 or a semi final
its only half season brother city r the first centurions of epl will come out top again coming may.. jus wait and watch
@@MsJackoo7 don't think so liverpool haven't even reached top gear and they are still out playing almost every team
raghu veer hahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahgahahahahahahagahaa are u daft
No Antero Henrique? Helped Porto rebuiled after Mourinho and afterwards he was responsible for Neymar's signing for PSG.
Transfer Genuis
Remember when we thought van dijk wasn’t worth 70million
Me neither we got an absolute bargain
Number 1 missing on the list: Arsene Wenger.
He has been doing this job remotely in past 21 years and achieved unbelievable success! The positions of these directors are now luxury positions.
I guess PSG's sporting director who managed to buy Neymar, mbappe, Alves and Buffon doesn't exist
How juventus and marotta are not higher on this list is an actual joke
Michael Edwards take a bow
Luis campos?!
Mike Edwards
Genuis
