Third & Final Hitachi Transfer to Newport Workshops

In this video: Hitachi 285M-1977T-286M - 277M-1919T-278M (formally known as 129M-1977T-179M - 9M-1919T-144M) embarked on its third and final transfer from Macaulay light repair centre to Newport Workshops for long term storage. This train has spent two years in storage at Macaulay sidings, after the remaining Metro Hitachi’s were withdrawn and retired from service.
This Hitachi was the last train to operate this transfer under its own power.

End of an era, you modern passengers never had the privilege of sweating it out on a hot Melbourne day with the windows that would open, spent a lot of my childhood riding these bad boys.

I remember riding them when i was in kindergarten in early 2010s I wish they were still in service

They were not comfortable to ride in, but they sure could move. I'm glad this consist was able to travel to Newport under its own power and not the ignominious transfers of the Comengs.
