The Largest Deep Hole Dimension Granite Quarry in the World! - Rock of Ages - Barre, Vermont

Rock of Ages has been in operation since 1885. The gray granite they extract from Barre, Vermont is known as the finest in the world. Here, in addition to operating the quarry, many fine sculptures work to create masterpieces of stone. The factory offers guided tours, and we were fortunate to be able to tour the Smith Quarry - the largest deep hole dimension granite quarry in the world. Our family loved learning how the rock was moved out of the ground, and what made the water the beautiful turquoise color. For weeks since, we've spotted the drill marks in pieces of rock all over the east coast.
