  • Barre city, Vermont is the 14th most populous municipality in Vermont with Barre Town, Vermont right behind it at number 17, and Barre City is the most populous city in Washington County, VT. Together they make up a huge portion of central Vermont’s population and Barre provides jobs and amenities for many people. Barre is also known as the granite center of the world! In this video I cover all the good things about Barre that make it worth moving to, and I also cover all the negative things about “Scary Barre” that might deter some people from moving there. You’ll learn about Barre schools, Barre Crime, Barre housing prices, as well as Barre jobs. You’ll learn the differences between Graniteville, Websterville, South Barre, and East Barre. I talk about the amenities of Barre city as well as the local areas around it including Montpelier, Berlin and Northfield. I live in Williamstown and am very familiar with the Barre area being only a short distance outside of it. I also discuss the 2023 VT major flooding and things to consider when buying a house in Barre Vt in light of that.
    Barre, VT is an affordable area and you have likely seen Barre’s affordable housing prices and considered moving there. I hope this video helps you decide whether or not it’s for you. If you have any questions about any city in Vermont, make sure to leave a comment or send me an email!

    I like your video. It's kinda crazy how much that Wal-mart changed in such a short amount of time.

      Thank you Paul! It is very handy being close to both interstates... Definitely helps since I drive all over the state.

    Jacob FYI - article from FOX
    'Vermont delivered on all fronts': Residents and business owners reveal why people are flocking to the state.
    More people moved to Vermont than any other state for the third year in a row.

      Thank you, Charles. I saw that! 65% of moves in Vermont were inbound, the most of any state. New Jersey had the most people leaving with 65% outbound moves. 🙂

    I am or was a VT resident of 28 years before moving to Iowa two years ago.
    Barre is not really a place you'd want to live in, least for long. Call it a placeholder city, you're there for maybe 1 - 2 years most before you set your sights elsewhere. You're better off going to either Rutland, Williston, Burlington, Bennington, Winooski or even St.Albains. Sure, the affordability rates will be higher, but you'll be thanking yourself in the long run because really the contrast of civilization between Barre/Montpelier even to those towns is night and day.
    You'll just find yourself exhausting everything Barre has to offer right around that time range of 1-2 years before you're tired of having to spend so much on gas on the trips to and back from Barre to further away cities. You'll eventually be wanting to live in a more peaceful and safer city than potentially running into some troubled people looking to give you hell. That's the general consensus I've gathered from all of the stories I've heard of people who primarily lived in Barre. Some people love it but man do a lot of people really not like it.
    I'm nostalgic for Barre for numerous reasons, I've attended the schools there, I've walked a lot on the streets, thrifted, hung with friends and all that during my residency though I lived off in the smaller town of Graniteville so it was like if you walked to the top of Quarry Hill, you can literally see a good chunk of Barre right down to Main St. It is truly a sight.
    Otherwise, yeah, placeholder city.

      I would agree with you! I wouldn't want to live there long-term myself. Some people love it but most people don't.

    I love Vermont, but it's way too tax burdened. I guess I'll just settle for visiting it now and then.
    The few people I know that live there all cross into NH not to pay sales tax

      Unfortunately it is too tax burdened and is only getting worse. Too progressive to the point where we are turning into California and they are just adding taxes on top of taxes and creating new taxes!

    So In the description in the video, it is tough to figure out if this place is worth living in. I just moved from AK to TX but got an offer for work in this town. Since This guy in the video is actually a real estate salesman, the review is suspect. Most who are trying to sell something very much gloss over the bad. Small towns normally have Meth problems. This was not mentioned at all. Looks like a nice place but I am skeptical of the analysis.

      Hey, as I said, I wouldn't personally want to live in downtown Barre as it's kinda sketchy but living outside of it isn't so bad. I live 10-15min outside of it. Barre has meth issues like most Vermont towns and cities unfortunately. It's a larger city for Vermont so one of the towns with more issues. Also has a higher homeless population but it's hard to tell because Vermont gives free housing to so many homeless.

    I like Montpelier and Berlin but it doesn't seem there's a whole lot going on in Barre. Seems kind of run down and dead for the most part, especially for a city its size.

    • @LivinginVermont
      @LivinginVermont  4 місяці тому +1

      Not a lot going on... definitely more excitement in Montpelier in my opinion as well. Not bad amenity wise but if you like to always be doing things it might not be a good fit

    I live in south Burlington and would never live in barre/Montpelier either I hear terrible things about that area. Only been around there a few times myself

    • @jacobbarnes8711
      @jacobbarnes8711 7 місяців тому +1

      I like the Montpelier area, depending on the neighborhood. Some good restaurants and things to do. Burlington also gets a bad reputation for crime and drugs, especially lately. What's your take on that since you live pretty close? I realize South Burlington has many super nice neighborhoods away from downtown Burlington that don't really experience the crime... Barre town isn't as scary as Barre city anyways

    • @vermontvoice13
      @vermontvoice13 7 місяців тому

      @@jacobbarnes8711 oh I totally agree on Burlington being bad, downtown in particular. I rarely go around there now. When I’ve been around there at night I always feel uneasy and am always watching my surroundings. South Burlington is nice though, ideally I’d like to find a remote area in Vermont to live sorta off grid more away from people lol

    • @LivinginVermont
      @LivinginVermont  7 місяців тому

      @@vermontvoice13 It's unfortunate but in the evening I feel the same way in Burlington. Almost hard to even go out for dinner around Church St... I'd be happy to help you find an off-grid place if you ever decide to do that! : )
