    I am a 69 year old recent widower who's getting ready to hit the road whenever this dang virus lets up. My wife told me to do this before she climbed that high mountain. She said to live the life we couldn't once she got sick. You two are one of my few fav full timers. I have a soft side truck camper I am finishing the last project of off grid solar. If I don't burn down the house, lol. I want to go the desert first thing, then north and eventually into Alaska. This will be my maiden trip, kind risky but why not?!? I am fortunate that I have a decent retirement income. Plus we believed in life insurance that got me debt free and a nice truck, truck camper and the goodies for it. I look forward to seeing your videos, seeing things we had planned to see, and living the full time RV life as long as He lets me.

      @Jim Beam same here Jim, i have LT AT tires, plus a high lift floor jack and all that. I just got back from a 5 week bop through the southeast and we did well. I just bought a cell phone booster though. I have my tire plug stuff and the skill set. I have a bin full of my tools, hand and power. My 800 watt solar did it all in marvelous form.

    A bit of advice to ppl who are learning to rework this whole "life" thing...you're not homeless. Your home is just an efficiency apartment with wheels. Some don't have rest rooms or kitchens but your home is where your heart is. Is your heart in that apart-meant or HOuse? Is your heart a thing? Or is your heart a state of being and awareness? I hope most will say it is the latter. Thx for a new perspective. We need that.

      My wife and I fulltime RV and roadschool our children so they can see and learn everything the world has to offer. The one thing we have learned is that home is the place where you feel most comfortable and happy. In our case being together and experiencing the world together is what makes us comfortable and happy. Our home is where we park it.

    Your videos always make me smile and Sweetie's expression around the 13 min. mark was priceless. I had to rewind and watch that again. As always, we viewers appreciate all the effort you put in to publishing your videos. They are just so good and fun to watch. You should verbally plug Patreon at the end of your videos every now and then. Every little bit helps.

      Thanks Andy haha! That was a pretty funny expression and it cracked us up too. Thanks a lot for the encouragement, it really helps us keep striving to make the best videos we can. We have thought about verbally plugging Patreon at the end of videos, and we probably will eventually. We were thinking for now it's less intrusive just putting links to it and if people see them and want to become patrons then that's awesome. Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement 😊

    The wife and I were cracking up on the "lots of sandwiches" because we know that will be us in two months LOL!
    Great video guys, we had a very similar plan! We paid off our debit and have some equity from our house as well. But we plan on workamping, I highly recommend you look into it. If you have any questions shoot us a message on Facebook or Instagram, we have 2 gigs lined up already. There are places you can make money and get a free site. We plan on "wash, rinse, & repeating" also.. but not with the savings. Instead, doing it in smaller doses of workamping here and there so we can keeping traveling but maybe at a slower pace.
    Safe Travels!

      I'm asking because there are a lot of retired and pre-retired people who would gladly offer you work when you are in their area. Just here at my home, we have a lot of yard work that needs doing. We're baby boomers and I have a feeling that other Boomers also need a little help too. If you have a website or something we could see when and if you'd be in the area and could 'book' you for a job or two!

    Not to be confused, I make a second post: I'm y'all's grandpa. Ethyl and I have lived one year in our 20s full time and loved it! We wonder if after we've been full time RVing in the US for some time if we will want to head overseas, or if life will take us in some other crazy direction. Who knows? I think folks would be better off asking themselves 'what am I willing to give up in order to afford to full time' rather than simply asking 'how can I afford it?" Cause you can spend a few thousand dollars a year boondocking with a tiny used van and eating simple meals. Or you can spend a hundred grand a year hopping from park to park in a full size coach, eating at all the nice places, and doing all the fun stuff. It all depends what you want your full time lifestyle to look like.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +12

      We completely agree with you Colin. We gave a lot of things up in order to full time RV, but they were just that, things. We traded possessions for incredible experiences and I'll make that trade any day! And you're right, it definitely depends on what people want out of their full time lifestyle which will determine how much they spend. For us, we just want to live free and simply.

    Thanks for being honest on how you live. I have watched too many nightmare videos that people go full time and can't afford 6-9 months in because they are trying to full time VACATION, not full time live. BIG difference. You had a plan, worked towards it, waited, thank you! NICE JOB!!!! So many people want everything NOW, you are in inspiration of honesty and hard work. Question about Jen's job, how part time, on average do you think Jen works 20 hours a week, or 30 or...? Thanks for not saying you make good money from UA-cam, too many people are shocked how little UA-cam ad revenue really is. I see other channels fund their life through a multi-pronged approach. 1) A remote job 2) Patreon 3) Merchandise sales (Amazon links in your description where you get a % of purchases without increasing cost to consumer). UA-cam doesn't make you much money "directly", but it is the main media that makes people want to support you through 2 and 3. I know you are going to read some of my comments here and there and they will sound critical, sorry, but the videos I have watched, you seem too much to assume everyone watching is full time, many of us would love to be, but we aren't for reasons X, Y or Z, so we watch and dream that we are... just a side note about your audience. Keep up the honest, ethical work and I look forward to watching you. I'll try not to make so many, "remember most of us aren't full time comments", sorry...

    My hat is off to you two, living your dreams at a young age. Becoming debt free is a major accomplishment, and is to be saluted! For me, having had that dream, but unrealized, I now wait until retirement to do what I have dreamed of doing all my life. Traveling, debt free, off grid living. Just 1.5 years to go and I will be there. My plan is to live on less than 2000 per month. I have a bigger RV than you guys and maintenance costs are considerably higher, but doable. When it gets boring I will sell the RV and buy a sailboat and go west or something.

    At the end of the week, the vacationer handed the fisherman a busines plan. In it was how to Become a millionaire with a fishing business.
    The fisherman read it and then asked, "Senor, after i do all this, what then?"

    debt free is a great feeling and its even better when you have some coin in the bank to fall back on. I will never again get a car loan or credit card debt etc. If I cant pay cash i dont need it period. Sure I dont have the latest and greatest but when I want to buy a toy or go out I dont think twice. I have no stress and do what i want not what the bank wants

    You two are awesome, My DH and I along with our pup Lola went full time in Jan 2017 and have never looked back. You are both doing (while you are young ) what we dreamed of 30 years ago. I hope you both realize what a great inspiration you are to other young couples. We are blessed that Ken works remotely also and it funds our adventures, but the fact that both of you made the decision first to go into this debt free AND you accomplished that is a testament to your success. I started our UA-cam channel for fun and to keep our friends and family up to date and if we will never make a penny, it is all good. You both are authentic and grounded and I am very proud of what you have achieved. Stay true to your dream and hopefully someday when we are boondock ready we can share a campfire. Keep on #LivinTheDream

    Love watching your videos. Our Target date is 5/1/19 & like you, we'll be almost exclusively boondocking. We'll be traveling with our 3 cats & the only thing that makes me nervous is leaving them alone in the middle of nowhere if someone does break in. However, it really does seem like a non-issue from what you & others have said.
    Excited to get the adventure underway, 384 days... 😊

      Thanks Bridget! That's really exciting congratulations, only one more year! We also do worry about the possibility of someone breaking in with our animals inside, but we feel that you can't live in fear and you gotta live your life. The same thing could happen at a home, someone breaks in a leaves the door open and the cats get out. Not to scare you or anything haha! I love that you've got a countdown going, we did the same thing and had that number staring us in the face every day haha. Best of luck to you =)

      @@FateUnbound I'm planning on living FT in an RV by spring. It will be me and my four dogs. I worry about leaving them and having the RV stolen or broken into, or it getting too hot fir them. Do you do anything to make it harder for someone to drive off with your RV? Also, if it's not too personal, I'd be interested in what your average monthly costs are. I'll have some income, but it's not as much as when I worked full-time. Thank you!

    Our story (minus full-timing) is very similar. No regrets. Work hard early in life when you have the energy, pay off assets and debts, then enjoy your toys later. We have been debt free since 2008 thus the reason we could write checks for a new truck and TT. Lovin life now 👍 not rich, just living simply.

      Agreed, we didn't want any regrets later in life. That's awesome that you've been debt free for so long, well done!! We never had or will ever have aspirations to be rich, we feel the same way as you and just want to live simply and choose experiences over possessions.

      This year, I started thinking to live in RV and go around places in different States to where I could have meaningful conversation with kindred people on the essential aspects of life to amplify with what I have investigated, learned and practiced through experiences i.e. research & self education and in doing & feeling the good vibrations & receiving the manifestations physically, mentally, emotionally, & spiritually. I believe, life in its complexity as you see its specific aspects and viewing it in simplicity of its whole scenario in its huge perspective is actually so simple & joyful once you have known the root and purpose of creation where it is only “living a life aligned to simplicity, modesty, nobility, etc. where there is less resistance or most of the time no resistance being free from the limitations and worldly attachments that causes conflict to the desire of the inner self which is contentment & happiness in everything - a heavenly state of mind we can all practice and become a good habit where the heart and mind are in harmony which each other. And, once the secret is known... it is no more a secret but in its unfoldment to the inner eye. Being in this physical or material world is a reality wherein we see the physical realities. However, when we view its spiritual essence, the realities the physical eye see are only born to this physical world and they become meaningful only when we see things in the light of the good spirit “as darkness is the absence of light” and the “bad is the absence of good” in this way of accepting things as they then we share life of its necessities in a fun & loving way and as the source of joys being enriched with the bounties & blessings of the Holy Spirit overshadowing all in Its One Endless Progressive flow affecting us all through its revitalizing & inspiring energies - all about pure love or unconditional, humility to the One Creator by the endless knowing/learning/ & understanding ... aiming working towards the Celestial Enterprise we all are embodied and blessed since birth to the worlds beyond!
      RV living is my plan and next move hopefully, after I came back to USA from a few months visit to my hometown, Philippines.
      I am glad to have these videos online and connecting with you guys...

    Don't be afraid of credit cards!!! As long as you pay them off at the end of the month there is no interest. PenFed gives 5% back on fuel, Sam's club is 5% on fuel (up to $6,500 per year) 3% on dining and travel, and Citi double cash is 2% on everything else. You had the discipline to get debt free, you have the discipline to keep a $0.00 balance on a card!

    • @nomadicana
      @nomadicana 5 років тому +3

      Absolutely! People should never use credit cards if they can't pay the entire balance every month. BUT, as long as you use it responsibly, credit cards will save you a lot of money. Having debt can also save you money - invest your money earned at a higher interest rate than what you pay on your loans and you'll come out ahead. The root motivation of getting rid of debt and credit cards is psychological, not financial. That said, if paying extra to avoid credit cards/debt will give you peace of mind, I say go for it! It's all about your individual goals and values.

      Another reason to have a credit card is to provide help with warranty issues or rip-offs. With a debit card once the money is taken from your account it's gone. A credit card company will go to bat for you in a disagreement and probably also offers an extended warranty past what the manufacturer gives. Last thought: what if you had a $5000 RV or truck repair? Lets hope that never happens, but if it does, what do you do for cash?

      Thank you Jan that means a lot! Every site we stay at we make a campsite review video for, and to find where that site is using GPS coordinates simply type those exact coordinates into Google Maps search and it will zoom right in on that spot and allow you to get directions. Also, on the blog post on our website for those videos, Jenni always creates an interactive map at the bottom of the post of the area we stayed in. The pinpoints on the map have an option to click "get directions" when you click the pinpoint and it will create a box just below the map to type in your address for turn by turn directions. If you need more help just email us at ourfateunbound@gmail.com and we can help further! And Sweetie loves you too, she hasn't even met you yet but I guarantee she loves you! ska punk OI! Hi! I'm new here today, but have been on YT as a viewer for a few years and have followed a few folks from the beginning towards completing a timber-framed home, through the four new Star Wars films, and several other interests. Some people will want to help supplement the revenues that came from advertisements on the channel or during the channel’s playing time. Most of us expect that they are free to do without getting permission from the rest of us. As this channel grows, David and Jenny will earn more from advertising. This is how YT structures the opportunity. So, your pejorative description of "begging" is not accurate when some people want to do this and they are simply directing these individuals to the location of the Patreon button.
      Initially, there was no mechanism for this to occur in the early days of YT, some bright wo/man thought of "Patreon" as a means of Direct Support that would be freely made donation same in the manner of giving to charities. The UA-cam channel generally begins as a hobby and eventually develops a business aspect. Whenever funds are generated count as profit that must be report to the US government by its citizens, there will not be a tax deduction for a donor, but there may be for the creator due to the initial and/or ongoing business investments: cameras, lens, editing and sound equipment, rent for location, fuel for the truck pulling the RV, etc.
      Sorry, David and Jenny, but I doubt your PB sandwiches would be deductible even if you passionately argue that they are an "essential cost-of-doing business."
      Lighten Up and Live Longer, ska punk OI!! Enjoy the Day. Have a Nice Life. : )

    Given the remote work, would be curious as to how hard it is to get good internet on BLM land. That's been my main worry. Right now I have an AT&T dongle with a Weboost which is good in the midwest. But frankly I've been eyeballing the new Hughes gen5 plans in case out west is problematic. It's just the setup/teardown/storing the dish would be a PITA.
    Also, keep up on the vids. It's not making much now but you've only been at it for a year and only have 5k subs. Your video work is very professional and I'd expect your viewer count will grow.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +9

      It is really hit or miss on BLM land. We have had good luck though and typically only go to places that we can find reviews on that say there is at least some sort of cell signal. For Jenni's remote job we only need weak 3G signal since she is doing mostly data entry and it doesn't require much bandwidth. We don't even have a Weboost and we've been doing just fine.
      It would be incredible if we could support ourselves off of our channel and website. It is bringing in a little bit of money but not much. We are working hard to continue to grow it and who knows what the future holds? Thanks for the encouragement Mark we really appreciate it 😊

    Another awesome video! Just a comment about using a debit card instead of a credit card. You can get a Visa card with no fees that pays you back 4% on fuel and 3% on restaurants. An Amex with no fees that pays you back 3% on groceries. Another Visa with no fees pays you back 2% on anything and everything. Just pay monthly and don't carry a balance. The rewards all add up fast. Also, I believe a credit card is much safer than a debit card when it comes to fraud. Food for thought. On last comment, Sweetie is like all the other dogs in the Universe, loves peanut butter.

      excellent advice from Mike N. not having debt is GOOD.. but not having credit is BAD. get a couple credit cards like explained above and use them. make sure to know what the annual fee is as well. If you debit card get hacked you are OUT the money for a month.. with a credit card if it get hacked, like my wifes did the other day, you call and get a new card.. reason to have at least 2 at all time.
      Love the vid and thanks for the info.. and I, like Sweety, love peanut butter especially the honey peanut butter kind.. :)

      BOB PEG A credit card purchase paid off timely does not meet the definition of debt. I also don’t worry about my credit score but understand it can affect insurance, rental and other sundry rates. Happy travels.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +8

      We appreciate the advice Mike. However the 2% or 3% back on groceries and fuel does not interest us because having to monitor one more account and worry about making the monthly payment each month isn't worth the small amount of cash back, especially when you spend as little as we do.
      Our debit card is fraud protected, meaning our credit union will reimburse us for any money stolen from our account for any fraudulent purchases. This has already happened once a few years ago when someone hacked my account and stole $1,500 from it. My credit union didn't hesitate and reimbursed me for the stolen funds.
      Regarding credit score, Jenni and I both already have excellent credit and really don't think not having credit cards is going to harm them very much. And even if it does, we really aren't concerned about it because we never plan on taking out loans in the future again. The only reason you need a credit score is to get a lower interest rate on a loan. If we remain debt free for the rest of our lives then what does it matter?

    • @RobertJory10
      @RobertJory10 5 років тому

      Mike is absolutely right. You simply pay off the balance of the credit card each month and there is no interest. In fact, you are using their money for free which in the billing period and get cash back on your card for those items you have to buy anyway. You seem to have the discipline to pay off the entire balance each month.

    Congrats on living your shared dream...that's so awesome!! We've been living day to day on faith for over a month now, somehow staying in a hotel (our apartment had mold and we had to move out), and my husband's full time job came to an abrupted end just a couple days after he felt the Lord speak to him saying, "leave your 41 year construction career to fish for men". Yesterday, we had a situation where what little money we had in donations from friends and paypal donors, was taken by a situation with an on-line service, and once we told them their mistake, the corrected the matter, but we were told that it could be 3-5 business days before the money was back in our account, so we prayed, and God had us drive to our bank to see what they could do. The person we talked with checked our account, and found a loophole where we could still get enough cash through the ATM to cover another two nights in the hotel, and if the system put an overdraft fee on us, we could call to get that taken off if we told them the situation. It's not exactly how we envisioned things, it's a challenge, and honestly, it's not our dream to be living in a hotel, we'd much rather be RVing ourselves, but we don't yet have one or a way to pull it, so it's one day at a time, sharing the Love of the Lord and trusting He is going to make the way for us to do what we need to do when we need to do it.
    God bless you guys, and we look forward to seeing more videos!

    Clarification: I'm coming from the perspective of what I would call a conventional retirement. i.e. work, save until you never have to work again, retire and don't run out of money before you run out of life. How are you planning for the time when you are ?? years old and can't "till the soil anymore" -- or don't want to. Is it fair to assume you don't want to work until you die? And on the health care question, if you could, please expand your answer to include your thoughts on how you will address long-term care needs (like a nursing home).
    Thanks for being willing to answer questions. And, I could stand content more often from you guys. Oh- and for income ideas to keep the wheels rolling, check Heath and Allysa Padgett's content at heathandalyssa.com/

      Doug Crockett so what are you calling retirement. these people are doing what most people want to do at retirement. travel!!! now that said I've busted my ass everyday day, 60 to 70 hours a week. I have wrecked my health working jobs that would replace me tomorrow before my obituary even comes out. I have seen people drop dead at my work and never even got to retirement to enjoy. my health is now failing because of the work and abuse my body has taken over the years and the company I work for after years of not missing a day constantly complains that I am now taking time off here and there for health reasons. life is way to short to work for companies that have no care for your future. I am now saving up to do this myself. I am not quite 50 and I'm not sure I will ever see retirement. how many people do you know that have dropped over 2 years after retirement. these people are enjoying life while they can. tomorrow isn't promised to any of us. if it's not your thing, if you feel the need to live like everyone else that's fine. but there are thousands of you Tube channels just like this. and thousands more who just go do this. it's a personal choice

      So true! Plenty of people work their whole lives and never enjoy life after a career due to health issues actually caused by the work they did. It so fantastic to be able to take use technology to travel and work. I asked my question relating to retirement, defined as no longer needing an external source of income, because it wasn't addressed in the video. At some point, as you described, there may be a time when we can't do the things we once did- or don't want to. And at that time, not having to work for income would be nice.
      I will retire this year after 32 years on the job. I am fortunate (I think) to have a pension. I wondered what their plan is. It's a pretty personal question for many- so I didn't expect an answer. Just something I think about.
      I hope you stay healthy and enjoy years in retirement.

      MOST of us fall into the 9 to 5 category to raise families, it's just a choice. I understand Doug Crockett's question as none of us want to work until we die. It's a fair question, he's not attacking anyone.

    David, you are still young, ever thought about quickly learning a tech skill [codeing, web design etc.] so that you also would be able to work remotely?, and if you did, that would be a very good thing to document on your channel, many van and RVers are hungry for that kind of info.

      I know many graphic and web designers who went to school for those skills but could never find decent employment in those fields. They ended up back in retail, service industries and manufacturing. "Just learn to code" is a scam for the vast majority of people and I would be wary of easy button suggestions. Its a very niche market. Just like data entry, many people could do it not at the same speed but actual stable employment hours can be hard to come by and its closer to piecemeal labor getting paid 5$ for website articles. I used to work as a remote evaluator on google platforms but then kept running into less work being available everytime I logged in to work getting paid per task when the company pooled all tasks for remote employees.

      @@TheDivineCallingofJesusChrist That is why I asked David this question, so he could tell me exactly what you just asked me,
      Getting honest information about this topic is very difficult because there are a lot of get rich quick scams out there mixed in with the honest information, on top of that, even if you take the time to learn a tech skill, David tells me that work in that field may not be easy to find on the back end,
      I was looking for the exact same answers you are looking for but I've since given up, if your young in age, keep searching, don't give up, but be careful,
      I would check out a channel called "Eli the Computer Guy " he has a lot of good information on this without all the get rich quick nonsense

      @@rvvanlife from what I've gathered it seems like freelancing / independent contract work is very beneficial for remote work. The only problem is is that your income isn't fixed.
      From what I'm seeing you can do things like transcribing languages creating subtitles. Appen allows you to do micro tasks and get paid instantly. Rem allows you to put UA-cam videos into captions and is a great side gig for income. Web development for programming seems rather tedious it seems to be kind of competitive.
      What I've decided to do is I'm going to purchase a box truck. Use that box truck for independent contracting work and save up enough money to convert the box truck into a tiny home ran primarily off of solar energy.
      I'm only 22 years old but I have a dream, the whole setup is going to cost me somewhere around $10,000 to $15,000. Goal is to buy the box truck first hustle my way up to 15K and start the conversion. I'll have to worry about water, insurance, food and gas.
      I've put together a whole spreadsheet tallying together how much all this would cost as well as how much solar power I'm going to need for a year-round mobile tiny home.
      Currently I'm very lucky where I live my total rent totals up to $750. But I think I'm done with working 9:00 to 5:00 until you're around 65 years of age.. I am not a fan of the current system and will find any way to get out of it.
      If all goes correctly I will be paying less for my monthly average I pay now. Plus being able to travel anywhere and never leave home. I'm very much introverted I don't like hanging around people that much so this lifestyle truly seems like something that's for me.
      The remote work I will be looking into is freelancing independent contracting. I will promote services such as video editing, graphic design, and motion graphics. As well as rems UA-cam subtitle job that pays as much as you put into it that's what I like about it.
      After I hit up Appen for some months creating my own portfolio I will try making money from that although it's based on location and experience thus it's not totally reliable until you make your way up the ranks.
      What I'm saying is that if you can utilize multiple remote money making methods to maximize your income and still make enough money to get by every month I don't have a problem with doing that.
      I can understand that having a job something that has fixed income and hourly rate hours per week I can understand completely. I suppose this is when programming becomes the most favorited option due to its high income payout typically.
      From what I've gathered they like people that have had some sort of experience programming to do remote work it's not like you're going to self teach yourself programming and get a remote job it's not that it's not possible I just from what I'm reading it's unlikely.
      Anyways if you've read this far I appreciate your patience I cannot wait to get on the road and start living my life I've been so isolated for 4 years I think I need to get out and do this and actually find some purpose in life cuz right now I I don't have it but this box truck van life is giving me a lot of weird life motivation that I've never had before so I'm going to pursue it.
